Jimmy Vest
« on: September 16, 2006, 03:52:40 PM »
I hyped him up, he came in looking like crap, and now I have egg all over my face.  Jimmy, how could you do this to me?  Argh!   :-[

That’s ok.  Few people hit a home run the first time out.  I know he’ll learn from this outing and do much better next time.  He obviously has the tools and foundation to do much better.

As for you haters out there, don’t be fair weather fans.  If you’re a fan support them when they’re up and when they’re down.

Vest will be back!  :D

The freak will be back!

The only person who won it all the first time out was Lenda Murray.

Why do you people keep saying it was his first bodybuilding competition?

Have you seen his website. It has pics of him contest dieting in 2005 for example.

The pic Bay posted above was on a page with this title:

"The Physique I will present on
November 19, 2005
at
The Las Vegas Bodybuilding
Classic"

This is the first contest, I ever noticed him in and that’s probably true for most people reading this thread.  Obviously, the guys been at this gym thing for a while... It stands to reason he’s been in smaller shows most of us aren’t familiar with.

Anyhow, back to the drawing board... time for a rice cake.  :P

Weird how all his pre-show pictures, especially the 'off-balance' shots looked amazing, and the contest shots looked like crap!?

/i also think the clean-shaven look was a wrong move too, as i think it 'lost' a bit of his character, but what do i know ???

I was thinking the same thing but facial hair is frowned on in contests.  It doesn't matter if it's fair or not,  it's fact.  Don't compete with facial hair.  It detracts from the physique. :(

The guy just didn't mess up his prep, or missed his peak.

Vest looked to be carrying quite a bit of fat.

I don't think that Billy Smith would've taken his skin fold measurement at a 0.0%, let me put it that way...

are you suggesting that vest's arms appeared to be a smooth 17 inches and that his lack of chest development stood out, Hedge?

I see what you're saying, and I get the bb 'ideal,' but I think that in Vest's case, it enhanced his (outsider?) appeal. And, I liked it, to boot. I've always been an admirer of the unconventional, and he hit a good note.

His goatee will be back.

And for better or worse, he may have looked bad on contest day... but most of the time he looks like this!  :)

He's harder in the gym shot's,gym body does not alway's equate to stage body, posing trunk's reveal all genectic flaw's.

True but what you’re saying is not really applicable to Jim’s poor showing.  What we see here is not an issue of flaws (Jim Quinn, for example, was famous for having structural flaws).  Rather we are seeing poor contest prep & conditioning, water retention, and it looks like he ran out of juice a few months ago.

I’m surprised he took to the stage after having seen this in the mirror.  None of these guys are like IFBB pros so they were not contractually obligated to show up and compete were they?

ok,say it's prep and water retention, then how come in the gym shot's he looks in harder conditioning, diurectic's were not going to fix it up ,mistake could have been not dieting hard enough, that is not even acceptable to guest pose, yes he is very freaky in the other shot's.

he sounds like a good guy and hopefully he'll do better in the future.  this is exactly the reason bodybuilders should never even be concerned with what a guy looks like in a gym, at the beach and even at the weighin...it means nothing.  i was in a show and the guy weighing in before me was huge and hard as nails...won a couple qualifying shows the weeks before.  when we got on stage and i got the pics back i couldn't believe it, it just did not come across on stage...i looked a lot better because of maturity, balance and detail.  Never judge a physique till it gets on stage and if you think your in shape three weeks out go put on your posing trunks and you'll see it ALOT differently.

how the fuck can a guy look this hard in the gym and gain 15 pounds of fat for his first show  ???

Honnestly, I am sharper than how he was onstage and I am off-season  :-\

I was thinking the same thing; he looked like Mike Morris after he went clean at his last show.  :(

Next time, drop me a line, Jimmy, and I'll help you out.  :)

When Jimmy nails his conditioning he will be a threat to win ANY PDI show he enters.
