I read in Men's Health that for weight lifters, a tall glass (12 oz.) of cherry juice blend twice a day retains more strength (18%) and experienced faster pain relief (1 day sooner). Apparently, a concentration of inflammation-fighting antioxidants inside cherries helps erase the ache. They minimize the mocroscopic muscle tears that occur during forceful contraction.

To make cherries work for you, you need to eat dozens for them. That's a pain in the ass if you're eating the whole fruit. That's why cherry juice is better when you're looking for a muscle-recovery supplement.  And timing is important. Drinking it post-workout is the most effective time. I'll be drinking mine with my creatine.

When shopping for cherry juices, look for a brand that uses red tart cherries. No sugar added.

I'm going to try this. Anyone think it's not worth it?

I don't know, I would think anything sugar based is going to be good for you post workout.  I would be interested in some real data to prove those statements.  IE how did they measure 18%?  If it works for you great.  But when you are going to low carb a bunch of cherry juice doesn't fit into the diet.

I don't know, I would think anything sugar based is going to be good for you post workout. 

I don't agree.  Fructose is not a good insulin spiker, hence fruit juice is not a valuable post-work out tool for that purpose.  The issue of whether cherry juice has some independent value is a different issue.

i am currently drinking a 20oz glass of juice in the morning... equal parts cherry, blueberry and cranberry... no sugar added (i buy the 3 seperatly and mix them)...

Eat different kind of fruits, and enjoy not only the taste but also their (hidden) nutrition. If you're planning to eat the next couple of weeks a lot of cherries,
you will start to hate them, maybe for the rest of your live.


And about juice,
I'm I the only you one who's making his own orange-juice? Nowadays they have wonderfull machines to maximize the quantity of juice and it can't get any fresher that that. 
And you buy the oranges in boxes, 17 kg for about 10/12 euro's.

What kind of juicer do you have?  The kind that juices EVERYTHING?  If so, try this.  Use a potato peeler to remove just the zest (only the orange skin).  Leave that thick white "pithy" stuff on and run it through the juicer.  It makes the juice thick and creamy and "dreamsicle" like.  We would never eat that white "pith" (it's kind of bitter tasting), but when it's juiced, it takes on a whole different flavor.  Try it.   

Carrots juiced with a little granny smith apple is really good too.
