Pros working for companies in various events
« on: September 22, 2006, 10:05:41 AM »
Ok Bob - Excuse me if I missed something and that very well may be the case. Maybe you can shed some light on this, as you are the "athletes rep". The rules in the IFBB rule book clearly state that no Athlete, Judge or official may participate in any other non IfBB or NPC sanctioned event in any way shape or form and coninues to list different scenerios. My question to you is : Why didn't you get suspended or fined for participating in FAME event - if i remember correctly you were on the poster and emceed the whole event. I realize that you had obligations to BB.com to be there - but rules are rules !! I believe if action was taken against Lee Priest there needs to be an explanation of why no action was taken against you. Please don't be nasty or hasty in your response- I am just a concerned fan of the industry.

thank you in advance

I hosted the entire event, not just the FAME portion...much like I had to do an appearance at Wayne's Expo in Chicago earlier in the year for BB.com. There is a provision in the rules that allow for athletes to work for their company, when their company is sponsoring an event...this rule was changed last year at some time.

This proivision applies to ALL pro's, I'm not an exception to the rule.

As the athlete's rep do you believe that this change was not made keeping the athletes' bests interests in mind?

Obviously, it only allows for appearances at booth's...not competing.

So all a bodybuilder has to do to compete in a PDI event, then, is incorporate (i.e. make a company that simply promotes them and their services) and then sponsor that competition via their company.

I just looked up the most recent (2006) rules of the IFBB and did not fing any such provision.

Bob - is it safe to say that if lee gets a verified letter from his sponsor that the suspension is not valid ?

also - if there is an addendum to the rules - were the athletes notified ?

Chick,
It sounds like Wayne's expo was a violation, as you are not allowed to take part in a non-sanctioned event in any capacity whatsoever, including endorsing.

2006 Pro League Rulebook

1.7  Non-Sanctioned Competitions or Events:
Any Member, whether Athlete, Judge or Official, who participates in a competition or event not approved or sanctioned by the Pro League may be fined, suspended, or expelled.  Participation includes, but is not limited to, competing, guest posing, giving a seminar, judging, officiating, promoting, endorsing or otherwise taking part in any capacity whatsoever in a non-sanctioned competition or event.

Well I don't think many believe much of what you say these days Bob.  And unless it specifically states "nont including comeptition" then there is a HUGE problem with Lee's suspension.  As an outsider not knowing either of you, I would hope Bob just mentioned this rule change to help Lee.  I would hope this was the case.  I a roundabout way Bob is giving Lee some ammo to battle the suspension.  Props to you Bob.  If not then you were very dumb giving this info out.
