IT is a TOTAL misconception that you lose muscle or strength.
The ability to lift a larger amount of poundages is not an indicator of strength if your bodyweight is high. Strength has fuck all to do with muscle at that. Most of all, it is just a simple mechanical advantage to lift more when you are fat or "bigger".
IT won`t equate into a larger muscle.
Lifting heavy weight at a lighter bodyweight in proportion means you are in fact stronger relatively.
