Chuck Sanow, Doug Wenz, & Robert Rothrock
« on: September 24, 2006, 06:24:18 PM »
Yeah he won his pro card last year at the masters nationals (I think that was the show) This was his pro debut, Guessing he placed pretty far back as this was a tough show.  Anyone heard?

You’re right!  He won the Masters National Championships in Pittsburgh in 05.  Here he is between Cutri and Doug Wentz (another guy who’s been around forever).

Hey Bay thanks for posting that.  Yeah Chuck has been around forever, his wife (not sure if still together) back inthe early 90's was also a heavy competitor.  Chuck did tons of shows but never got that pro card till last year in Pittsburg as a master.  Would be cool if he did well in this Spain show.

Someone on here said there was a lot of meth going around backstage at one of the masters shows which they were using for cutting...

Many years ago, (80s?) I remember a show (Junior nationals maybe?) with Chuck, Doug Wenz, Paul DeMayo (he was 21 at the time), Robert Rothrock and Kyle Norris (the heavy weight winner) all competing.  Chuck had blonde hair back then... anyone else remember that? Cory Everson was commentator.

I always wondered what happened to Wenz, Rothrock, and Norris cause I never saw any of them again.

Will you kids take it private?  No one is clicking on this thread to read your bickering.  >:(

Anyhow, Graphic Muscle has Rothrock's history but no photos.  :(

Does anyone have any pix of Robert Rothrock?

I trained at some of the same gyms Doug did and he was and is a impressive bodybuilder....always in shape.  Way before GH Doug would get away with eating hamburgers and french fries and still be very lean, lol.  His sister is a aau ms america as well.  Did he win the masters?

I was wondering how Chuck Sanow did...thanks Bay for posting a legit thread without gay-whoring it up.

Chuck has a great gym in Bridgeview, Illinois. One of the few remaining real hardcore gyms around Chicagoland.

One thing about Chuck that is real amazing is you see him one day...he looks like a guy who maybe on weekends lifts a little weights...looks like a normal guy. Then you see him a couple weeks later...literally two weeks later and he looks 25lbs heavier and shredded to the bone and looks ready to walk on stage. It boggles my mind...

He lives my ideal lifestyle...he's a Chicago firefighter, owns an awesome gym and is promotes shows in Illinois and is still a real legit BB.

Here's a picture of Chuck from the contest over the weekend. He's on the far left.

There's a pic of Doug Wenz in the reprinted edition of George Butler's Pumping Iron.  That must've been circa 1980 and he looked like a young kid then, about half the size he is in the pic in this thread.

Wow...Chuck has been competing that long...

In 1989 I was in 5th grade looking forward to Saturday morning cartoons and listening to Poisons' 'Open up and say Ahhhh' album.

I only been 'involved' with this industry since 2002 and I don't know Sanow that well but I hear things in the Chicagoland circles and I always heard he spent too much time over the years trying to stay at a lean weight. I guess he used to get advice about staying in the light-heavy category and never allow his bodyweight to tip into the heavyweight mark. I think that hurt him...if Chuck had 12-18lbs more muscle he would be somuch better IMO.

I don't think he ever really 'bulked up'. He does it like Kevin where he slims down in his offseason and when he gets in shape he may only gain very little muscular bodyweight mainly from 'muscle memory'.

He knows the real secrets to getting in shape really quick when he has to. I know people who pay him lots of $$$ for contest prep guidance but he'll never tell anyone his real secrets I know that much...

It was actually patterned after Brian Bosworth from the movie "Stone Cold" not the Flock of Seagulls.

Chuck's first contest was way back in 1980 as a teenager. He competed in about 4 shows as a teenage bodybuilder, beating Franco Santoriello at the last teenage show. He also competed with Vince Taylor, Phil Hill and lots of other future pro bodybuilders in the AAU before switching over to the NPC in 1989. He's been very consistent in his career, never giving up until he finally got his pro card after 16 years of trying. He almost got it in 1998 at the IFBB North America. He won the heavyweight class and lost the overall by one point to the light heavyweight winner - some guy named Dexter Jackson.

Wow, Rob trains at the same gym as me here in Mississippi, The Courthouse. He's really a nice guy, I've heard stories about him competing against Flex Wheeler in the early 80's and actually beating him. One of the trainers up there brought a video from 83 I believe where Rob beat Flex at a New Orleans show or something like that. I've heard he's had a couple of strokes or heart attacks. He's still pretty heavy, trains with the head of the DEA over Mississippi. Really nice guy though..

No, I would be frustrated if I didn't get so much positive reinforcement about my body from chicks.  I'm not going to lie, that's why I started.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind adding another 10 or 20 pounds of lean tissue - that's not going to happen though.

BTW you make juice seem like its crack...and you claim you know so much about it... ::)
