No more bloviating for me
« on: September 26, 2006, 01:06:16 AM »
I turned off O'Reilly tonight.  I have watched that show for the last 3 years, every night.  Couldn't do it tonight.

He has a new campaign.  He kept using a label called S-P, for 'secular progressive', people who endanger our country.  He has a new campaign against them.  That's why he wrote his new book, coincidentally.  These people aren't like him.  They don't worry about safety for our country.  They don't realize that whatever the rest of the world says, whatever evidence they "think" they have, we are the good guys and that's all there is to it.

This is irrational.  Sad that I can no longer tolderate the bloviating. You could show Oreilly a confession to 911, signed by everyone in the white house, and he would call you an inventive nickname and continue ranting about why torture is necessary.

Oh, I think you should continue to watch O'Reilly. I watch him on the net a couple of times a month. But always pauses to check his facts. I routinely go to the Fox website, and when Fox has their stuff blocked for international viewers (sometimes they don't want international viewers to see certain articles and clips) I put in an US IP number.

Why do you think I read news from the Iranian State News Agency? ;D I want to see what stuff they are fed with over there. It's not because I believe they are anywhere near independent.

It's always good to see how people are being duped, and to keep a good eye at those who are agenda setters, such as O'Reilly.

The more I learn about the lies we're fed - the more I realize that he is one of the main offenders.  For him to label 50% of the population with a derogatory description...

I'm just disgusted with him.

I sure wish the rest of the country would stop being scared and wake up to what has really been happening the last 6 years.

This is gonna read stupid. But I don't give a fcuk.

Don't just be disgusted about the media. Read a little.

Francis Fukijama - End of History

Robert Dahl - Democracy and its critics

Samuel P Huntington - Clash of Civilizations

Robert Putnam - Bowling Alone (You'll love that book)

Do you honestly think that old blowhard believes a single word that comes out of his own mouth? He's a spiteful, vengeful, failed journalist who found a market niche... one which he's filling quite adequately.  He knows how to work his audience, you gotta give him that.  If you're interested, read up on his backround and you'll see exactly what the guy is all about.

I pretty much agree.  I have zero respect for that guy, particularly after his sexual harassment episode, which came on the heels of his book talking about morality, etc.  He's an opportunistic hypocrite.

Just the boldness to say that 50% of the population are wrong for using evidence instead of the immaculate word of rumsfeld.   If a justice-centered republican like me feels alienated from him, I wonder if many of his moderate viewers - ones who DO prefer to use evidence instead of white house press releases to make decisions - will also feel irked.

Zack's right.

You should also read books with opposing views.

Like Noam Chomsky. If you a conservative.

Also read both Right and Left Blogs.
http://www.conservative.org/columnists/default.asp
http://www.liberal-international.org/

But you really should only quote things out of the MSM.
Journalists spend quite a bit of time researching their stories and generally quite a few fact checkers and editors look at before it is published.
If a story has legs it will show up here.

Don't quote editorals though since, they are opinion pieces.
