you could make a strong case for any of the above (perhaps not Lincoln, given the extraordinary circs he was placed in), except W actually.

Reagan is interesting . . . the system was not violated, but he used his political clout to back COngress into a corner smaller than the one the Constitution assigns it.

Jefferson and Madison  (Ky and Va) thought they were unconstitutional, but congress passed it, and the courts upheld them . . . and most of the states went along.

I don't think this is a partisan issue at all.  Selling arms to one of our enemies (Iran) and using the proceeds to fund the Contras, without Congressional approval, then lying to the public about it, was a pretty blatant violation of the separation of powers.

if you get down to the nitty-gritty, yeah . . . but poindexter and north were good enough to let him off the hook, so IMO, in the eyes of the law, it wasn't the executive but a bunch of underlings who had gone off the farm, so to speak.

I'm looking more for "John Marshall has made his decision, now let him enforce it" moments . . . when one branch of the govt. just decides to blatantly go its own way.
