When someone makes a new post into an existing topic, that new post, automatically causes the particular topic in which it has been posted to move to the top of the q of posts, and become more prominent, more easily seen.

By simply using the word 'bump', the poster is simply indicating they want it holding a prominent place on the board or that they want it to catch people's attention.

Bump is used as a term in correlation to taking a "hit" or a "dose" of coke. Hope this helps...
