Nasser El Sonbaty creating controversy with his interviews
Nasser El Sonbaty has been making some news lately, not so much as anything on the bodybuilding stage, but in what he has been saying. Nasser has been doing quite a number of interviews lately, four of them so far, and telling a great deal of stories that seem to create a lot of controversy. With each interview, the bulletin boards of Getbig seem to come alive with the a multitude of discussions, from if the stories are true, to if the events are true, to his attacks on various people. Now some people may say these interviews are negative, but when asked that question, Nasser simply replied that he is just saying it as it is, and you can take it the way you want. For those of you who think that Nasser is not smart, you are wrong. Nasser speaks five languages, and his English dialect is quite well. But in these interviews, Nasser talks about many things, including Milos Sarcev, Dave Palumbo, Greg Kovacs, competitions, his parents, steroids, Joe Weider and much more.

Interesting interviews. I remember Nasser & Kovacs coming to Knoxville TN on a number of occasions for guest posing at the Mr. Knoxville competition, maybe 1995 to 1997. I knew some of the guys at the Powerhouse that sponsored the event and hired them. On one visit, I was told they had to make 4 stops at fast food restaurants from the Nashville airport to Knoxville (approx 3 hours) to feed Nasser.
When I saw Nasser & Kovacs together, Nasser referred to Kovacs’ wife as “crap-crap.” I asked someone why he called her that and was told that Kovacs approached Nasser about moving to Canada to stay with Kovacs and get him ready for NOC (maybe that was the show). Nasser was around 400 lbs at the time, so part of the deal was Kovacs’ wife had to be willing to wipe Nasser’s rear. Perhaps THEY had the story wrong, but I know I did not hear it wrong.
As to Kovac’s conditioning at the time, Nasser was dead on. Kovacs always had a fan. I was at the seminar (held at the Powerhouse off Cedar Bluff) and he was a drone. That night I saw him get in to his car and he had to back himself to the open door, grab to roof and lower himself in. It was bizarre.
