<< I almost feel sorry for my Republican friends.
They once belonged to a respectable political party that could be trusted from time to time to run the country--with some oversight of a Democratic congress, of course.
Now, that the GOP party bus is out of control, careening downhill headed for the precipice, moderate Republicans are in a terrible quandary.
They can remember what happened in 1932, when the country turned on the GOP for mismanagement, casting them into political oblivion for two decades.
Because moderates often differ with the rightwing of their party on such issues as stem cell research, the environment, choice, gun control, and the Iraq war, they are labeled RINOs (Republicans In Name Only). In recent years, these old school Republicans have been sidelined, at best, or "pistol whipped" into accepting the neo-con agenda.
These passive Republicans speak in rambling sentences about the handling of the war, the stain of torture, the spectacle or corruption, and our loss of moral authority in the world.
Moderates are not the only ones feeling the pain of conformity. Pity the GOP presidential hopefuls who must grovel, lie, or recant in order to curry the favor of their captors. How sad to watch McCain and Romney bend themselves into political pretzels, while Brownback and Huckabee vie for political sainthood.
Giuliani and Gingrich hope, that like Ted Haggard and Jimmy Swaggart, they can be "cured" of their "sins" and emerge as the born-again heroes of the religious right.
In the months ahead, look for Dobson to go into the indulgence selling business, extracting a "price" for forgiveness from those he "ordains" with his favor.
Still, too many moderate Republicans are clinging to the party that has both embarrassed and annihilated them. A recent NYT/CBS News poll shows that while Republicans are fretting about their misfortunes, 75% of them approve the president's job performance and give him high marks on handling foreign policy, the economy, and the war.
So what is to become of the party of Eisenhower, Taft, Ford, Dirksen, and Nelson Rockefeller? Will the loyal remain lashed to the mast and go down with the ship?
Christy Todd Whitman, former EPA director and New Jersey governor, wrote a book, It's My Party, too; Taking Back the Republican Party, in which she deplored the "tight" structure of today's GOP, that once prided itself on being an "umbrella party."
She faulted centrists for causing the umbrella to collapse, as they sat back feeling uncomfortable and irrelevant, hoping commonsense would ultimately prevail.
As I said earlier, I almost feel sorry for my Republican friends. But I am getting over it. I can no longer allow them the luxury of being indifferent bystanders during such a perilous time in our history.
By going along and not fighting back, they have become enablers of right-wing zealots, whose policies are inflicting grave harm to our nation.
This administration has lost its political and spiritual moorings and it's time for Republicans of conscience to say so. >>

The republican party has become a shadow of its former self. I mean, they've never hidden the fact that they represent the rich, that is a given. Everytime they make it to the White House a huge amount of money is transfered from the mid and low classes to the richest 10% via refunds, tax breaks and other monetary mechanisms... And people still vote for them.
It has taken many mistakes for people to realise what a bunch or crooks that party has become. At one point, while we were still licking our wounds from 9/11 (which looks more and more every day like an "inside" job,) they even questioned our sacrosant Constitution... And the press never said shit!
It took a war based on lies, electoral fraud, invasion of sovereign countries, rampant corruption, torture of foreigners, etc. This is, by far, the worst Administration in many, many years, with Bush Jr., posibly, the worst president in US history.
Now, the democrats are not the panacea of correctness, but I'll take a president who gets blow jobs from an intern vs. one who decides to outright murder thousands of people any day.
What a bunch of crooks!!!!!!

This is by no means a defensive argument for Republicans but what have the uber rich elite Democrats done for the poor and common man? Not a damn thing.

Its going to be even worse to be a democrat in 2008 when you realize even with all that has gone wrong during Bush's presidency that the democrats still can't win the white house.
Cry me a river when that moment comes. Hillary? Obama? Good god, 2008 will be a cakewalk for the republicans.
8 MORE YEARS BABY!

I don't understand the post you just made.
You hear about the train wreck of the last 6 years - and you know you cannot defend it - so your post becomes the diversion of "but you suck worse and you can't win and hahaha and 8 more years of this clusterfvck".

You do understand the rich people are the ones that HIRE the poor folks. Tax the rich to death and no jobs for the poor folk.
Remember the rich pay over 90% of the tax money collected every year, what ya want from them, 100% and give the middle class and lower class a free ride? Remember, the greeter at Wal-Mart never hired anyone...

NOPE. Those planes would have hit that building that day if Pee Wee Herman were president.

... Good god, 2008 will be a cakewalk for the republicans.
Will there still be any that aren't in jail, under indictment or totally brain dead by then?
Hillary in 08, 09, 10, 11, 12 , 13, 14, 15.
The Clintons are back, get used to it sucka. ;D

Some believe Pee Wee Herman would have listened to the very detailed, very specific warnings of attack target, date, and hijackers, that came from various nations.

Bwahahaaahhhaaaaaaaaaaaa
Sorry but the pure absurdity of that post made me laugh.
6 years of corruption and incompetence and they're still diverting attention to the Democrats.
NEWSFLASH, both parties are EQUALLY bad. The Republicans aren't better than the Democrats and the Democrats aren't better than the Republicans. The sooner neotaints realize this the better off we'll all be.

You don't believe what? That Bush was informed?
Yep. You act as if bush knew the flight number and did nothing but read to kids in kindegarten glass.

Bush was given 5 of the terrorists' names, as well as the date of the attacks. Six weeks before the attacks.
How hard would it have been to check and see "wow, those 5 people just happen to have plane tickets for that day too. Maybe we should check this out?"

They never gave one. Our good friends the Germans and the Israelis told us that day. Also, that day, The head of the FBI made an emergency trip to Crawford TX with lights blaring to deliver a top secret document to Bush. Condi accepted it, but never read it.
That's right. She said she passed it on, Rummy said he never go it. Neither did Ashcroft. They pointed fingers on it, then dropped it.
So...to review...
The head of the FBI flies on an emergency trip to the Presiden't home with highly secret info (the same day germany tells us about a massive upcoming attack). The president and his Nat'l Security Advisor do not even read it. bush tells the FBI "You've covered your ass, alright?"
Shortly after that, the Hollywood, FL branch of the FBI which was following a suspicious Atta was "called off" - their branch was ordered off the case by executive order.
Are the pieces starting to fit together?

dude, if that was all true in the way you make it sound, bush would have been lynched by now. u twist facts as much as anyone here to suit your agenda.

Truth be told... so would I. Don't get me wrong... I think she's a very competent woman.
That's what scares me. She's good enough to right the many domestic issues and lull American's into a state of contented complacency... while at the same time executing shady grand agendas for the real powers that be without anyone catching on. The good thing about GW is he's so incompetent, it's easy to catch wind of his dirty shit... but Hilary.... she'd pull it off... and by the time you figured it out... it would be too late.
You'd have to watch that woman like a hawk, ...and I don't think the vast public cares enough for themselves to do it. They want to leave it all up to big brother who may not always have their interests at heart.
-

I disagree. She would be terrible for the country because she is too far to the left. I think she would also spearhead an attempt by the federal government to reach deeper into the pockets of millions of Americans.
She's also not very likeable.

What does her likeability have to do with competency on the job?

I totally agree with you. If there's one comon thread amongst all überrich is that they have one common goal: To not lose their dinero. If it means voting and/or running for office as a republican, or democrat, they have no (ethical or moral) dilemas doing so, because their main goal is to maintain and increase what they have in their pockets.
Having said this, yes, the democrats have also the same (financial) goals, which is to get and maintain power. Although they do not wipe their asses with our Constitution, invade 15 (innocent) countries or torture half of a country's population in the process.
My 2 cents.

Look buddy, noone is talking about taxing the rich to death. At this point in time is just a matter of getting them to pay taxes period. Half of those fiscal paradises, like the Cayman Islands or Bermuda, exist because US corporations do not want to pay taxes. Many people would be surprised, even irated, about the fact that Enron did not pay taxes for years on end. And very few corporations actually pay their fair share to the IRS. Whatever they pay usually goes to charities, PR stuff to let the public know they down wit the po' folk, or the IRS. Although they get it all back via municipal, state and federal tax breaks.
I work in the financial services industry and, although I'm not an expert, I can attest to how funny it is, come April, to see all these rich cocksuckers bending over backwards moving income distributions from US to foreign accounts so they get hit with NRA taxes (and hence lower their taxes,) only to move them back to the US accounts a couple of months after, away from the ever-present IRS. I see shit like this happen all the time. I mean, "Sacs" or not, it is a well known fact.
I do find you comment that the rich hire the poor a little disturbing though. Not because it's not true, but because it is not about that at all. What we're talking about here is how ethical or moral it is to have the rich "reap" the majority of the benefits and the poor, or middle class (since 85% of the middle class is but a fistfull of dollars away from being po',) get only the crumbs. "Trickle down economics" Bush calls it. I do not find it fair that the top 10% of the population own 3/4 of the stuff and that their idea of sharing is nothing but to show us how patriotic they are and how emotionally moved they are when a 9/11 takes place. Buuuuuuulllllshit!!
The Juan and only.
-
By the way, I'm in no way an expert in the subject, nor am I smarter or dumber than anyone here, but the idea that the rich pay for everything here is so illusory it is just, at best, moronic idiocy.
I mean, our life has been fiscalized to such an extreme that you can't do much without being taxed: Buy milk? Sales tax. Piss on the street? $50 ticket. Buy a house? Property taxes and God knows what else. Go to the hospital to see your wife give birth: ½ kidney and sales tax. I mean, it goes on and on, and on...
Hey, someone's gotta pay for all those rockets and bombs being thrown in Irak killing Irakis and US servicemen (human tax) so that we can get the cheapest oil around so that our corporations can be the most competitive around (and they are so because of this double whammy: Low energy prices and zero taxes; and some can't even get their game straight under such favorable circumstances and even turn against their own population: Enron in California).
Imus for fuckee.
-
Guess you never heard of Civil Rights, Worker Protection laws, Welfare for the needy, etc. :-\
There were a lot of Repubicans in the civil rights movement and as far as welfare goes? LOL.... just another drug for drug addicts. Teach a man to fish, AE. Don't keep tossing him fish.
Additionally, the high taxes to support those programs are paid by everyone to inlcude the poor who have little disposible income as it is. I'm not even talking about income taxes here. Taxes on food, gas, utilities, registration fees, etc. They all whittle away at what little they already have. You want to empower people and give control back to us and not the government? Give control of the purse back to the people and not the government and the bankers they serve.
When "champions" of the poor live like rock stars and get $400.00 hair cuts or refuse to answser simple questions about the legality of income taxes it (which fvck all of us) it puts all politicians in a bad light.

Ahhhh, but you see, "social" (wefare) programs are not expensive at all. In fact, the Welfare program of the 80s cost as much as 30 days of the Irak war (or the equivalent of what that big fuck who ought to be prosecuted and hung, Kenneth Star, spent on forcing Clinton to say that he got his pecker "spit shined",) and it helped A LOT of AMERICANS!!!!!. At one point, all of a sudden, it became a friction point between both parties and before you knew it there were self-appointed "experts" on the 10 o'clock shows talking about what a fiscal black hole the program was (a total and shameless lie!,) and how Puerto Ricans and Mexicans were having kids by the truckload so that they wouldn't have to work, and all of a sudden all these Republican rats started getting elected all over the friggin place.
And what was the 1st thing they did as soon as they sat at the office? Toss all social programs in the garbage, lower property taxes, give more tax breaks to the local businesses and buy 500 busses to start "shipping" the poor (aka "disenfranchised") to the state jails, where, coincidentally, there are no rich men.
And, OF COURSE, the media was instrumental, at least in New York, in the dismantling of most social programs.
It is a fact... I ain't making this stuff up.
-

It is a fact... I ain't making this stuff up.
And what happened in New York when a lot of those social programs went away? The economy blossomed and people got jobs.
See the unfortunate thing is that social programs are not just spent on those that need them and are incapable of work. They are wasted on lazy slugs that would rather have 10 kids and sit on their fat asses. I saw this day in and day out living in a small farming town in northern Maine. It's easy to sit around and do nothing when the government takes care of everything.
When people are not taxed into poverty they have more income at their disposal to spend as they see fit. A man's wages are HIS property NOT the governments. Like it or not the rich in this country create the business and the jobs for the middle class (and poor).
Bottom line is that YES social programs are expensive - they rob working people of their hard earned wages and the poor of their dignity.
-
After watching the Libs self-destruct by they're own idiocy since "taking over" ::).......I'm more of a Republican than ever. I think having the Libs in power is the best thing that could have happend to the Republican party...hahahahah!!

I still consider myself a conservative republican.....even after the last "abortioned" 6 yrs.
Most intelligent, honest, responsible republicans, realize the current GOP sucks HUGE di*k. We'll just wait for the Dems to self destruct like we did.
Sometimes, change is for the better. This is one instance.
Remember, you can't make chicken salad .........out of chickenshit. That's Bush's current dilemma.
-
And what happened in New York when a lot of those social programs went away? The economy blossomed and people got jobs.
No, the economy was pretty much the same: great. I mean, income gaps between the ultrarich and the middle classes grew larger and Donald Trump, who had filed bankrupcy, all of a sudden got all his buildings back, including the "Dump" Tower.
And, of course, it is ok to extrapolate what you've experienced in nothern Maine to the rest of the US and its poor population. You "saw" people "sitting" around doing nothing because the government takes care of everything, while you, GOD, pay more and more taxes.
Never mind the fact that every year more and more American families join the ranks of the working poor, although by your line of logic they ought to get up and go to work for $250 a week while their rent alone is $350.00.
Years ago, when your father was twenty-something, all you had to do, had you NOT a college degree, was to show up at a union meeting and you'd get a job on the spot. A job that'd allow you to buy a house, a car, get married and have children in less than 2 years. You try doing that now!
When people are not taxed into poverty they have more income at their disposal to spend as they see fit. A man's wages are HIS property NOT the governments.
But, see, that's exactly what I'm saying! I'm with you on that! The problem is that when the ones who collect this money mainly use it to give it to the rich, via wars, tax breaks or tax refunds; I do have a problem with that!
Like it or not the rich in this country create the business and the jobs for the middle class (and poor).
I'm not saying otherwise! What I'm saying is that if I pay 30% of my salary in taxes, they have an obligation to pay 30% too. The problem is THEY DON'T!!!!!!! I can't say it any clearer.
Bottom line is that YES social programs are expensive - they rob working people of their hard earned wages and the poor of their dignity.
And what do you call the 2 trillion dollars the invasion of Iraq has cost us? Chump change? I mean, it seems as though you'd rather give 800,000 dollars to each Iraqui than 2,000 to someone in Maine sitting in their ass. You're a real patriot buddy!
Do you concur?
-
[...]Most intelligent, honest, responsible republicans, realize the current GOP sucks HUGE di*k.[...]

That is the difference: you're gay, we're not.

And Barney Frank doesn't count!! :-*

If I remember correctly, Gennifer Flowers said Bill Clinton was "quite small, but had good oral skills"[...]
Are you sure it wasn't you?? I mean... I dunno any Gennifer Flowers. I've heard of a Jennifer "skank" Flowers though. As far as Clinton goes, he might have a small dick, but the mofo sure has racked some frequent fucker miles on it thought!
Besides, women are like that: You ignore them and all of a sudden you have a small dick and she never had any orgasm (yet she keeps calling you at 2 o'clock in the morning for a little pubic reznevous).
Fuck away my pesky friend.

1. civil rights laws were passed primarily by republicans (there was a very informational thread on that yesterday)
2. Dems support workers rights through unions...ever asked yourself why GM (United auto workers) is going out of buisness and Toyota (non union) is thriving
3. Giving welfare to the "needy" only encourages more "needy"

Regarding the Republican Party, historians report that while Democrats were busy passing laws to hurt blacks, Republicans devoted their time to passing laws to help blacks. Republicans were primarily responsible for the following Civil Rights legislation:
1. The Emancipation Proclamation
2. The 13th Amendment
3. The 14th Amendment
4. The 15th Amendment
5. The Reconstruction Act of 1867
6. The Civil Rights of 1866
7. The Enforcement Act of 1870
8. The Forced Act of 1871
9. The Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871
10. The Civil Rights Act of 1875
11. The Freeman Bureau
12. The Civil Rights Act of 1957
13. The Civil Rights Act of 1960
14. The United State Civil Rights Commission

No, the economy was pretty much the same: great. I mean, income gaps between the ultrarich and the middle classes grew larger and Donald Trump, who had filed bankrupcy, all of a sudden got all his buildings back, including the "Dump" Tower.
But, see, that's exactly what I'm saying! I'm with you on that! The problem is that when the ones who collect this money mainly use it to give it to the rich, via wars, tax breaks or tax refunds; I do have a problem with that!
I'm not saying otherwise! What I'm saying is that if I pay 30% of my salary in taxes, they have an obligation to pay 30% too. The problem is THEY DON'T!!!!!!! I can't say it any clearer.
Slapper do you support income tax? Do you think our income tax laws are constitutional?
If you say "yes" to the first two questions then what is a fair percentage that should be paid out? Would you say a flat tax system is fair even though the "rich" would keep more of their income?
Last of all, what is "rich"? How much money does one have to make to be considered rich in America?
BTW, this discussion has nothing do to witih giving Iraqi citizens money and my experiences in Maine are just an example of the same things that occur in all the states in our country. I've seen it everywhere I've traveled and lived.

The question of whether or not you're still a republican is about accepting all of our usa bush-bots because they show their party loyalty to the GOP leadership.

Fuck away my pesky friend.
I just love it when a newbie PUNK like "Slap-her" comes into the forum and starts throwing around F-Bombs at people he doesn't know.
This clearly shows both his LOW intelligence quotient, and the fact he was born at the SHALLOW end of the Gene pool.
This P.O.S. is muted.

Wrong.
1-I've been a member for a fairly long time (about 2-3 years?);
2-I have a right to give my opinion too; and
3-You are the one who brought up the size of Clinton's penis, not me. You republicans are something else, I tell you. You should build a sanctuary around Billy's pecker. The guy's been gone for almost 10 years and "the others" are still talking about him. If all the presidents got a decent pussy dose, like Clinton did, chances are we wouldn't be in the predicament we are right now.
Please don't hate me because I have a voice. :-X

Do I support income tax? Yes. Do I think our tax laws are constitutional? No.
Example: George Washington bridge in the New York/Jersey. This bridge was built a long time ago, with the government issuing bonds to pay for its construction. The bonds have long been paid off... yet we're still paying tolls. Why?! It's this political dependence on taxes that gets my nipples hard man!
We just found out a couple of weeks ago, from Da Man himself, that anyone going into midtown Manhattan is going to have to pay an extra charge. Why?! I mean, the streets are so far out of shape they look more like Sudanese highways. The transportation infrastructure in New York was, mainly, built in the teens, 20s and 30s. Nothing new is being built, exept buildings. Where's all this money going?
If you say "yes" to the first two questions then what is a fair percentage that should be paid out? Would you say a flat tax system is fair even though the "rich" would keep more of their income?
Percentage? Are you kidding me?! At this point in time getting them to pay a single dollar would be a step in the right direction.
Last of all, what is "rich"? How much money does one have to make to be considered rich in America?
Depends on the state, how much you make, the assets you owe, etc.
BTW, this discussion has nothing do to witih giving Iraqi citizens money and my experiences in Maine are just an example of the same things that occur in all the states in our country. I've seen it everywhere I've traveled and lived.
Dude, you have to look at things from a practical perspective. For example, when you hear of a company being "bailed out", what it really means is that the government (state, local or federal) is literally taking money from your pocket and paying someone else's bills/fuckups (the rich).
By the same token, when you hear about the "liberation" of Iraq, what it effectively and economically means is that the US government is taking money from our pockets (money that could be used to pay Americans!) and giving it to the Iraquis. Now, I ain't no math major, but someone's getting screwed here, and it ain't the Kurds!
Bye.
