Title: not calling a woman by her name
Post by: Earl1972 on May 18, 2007, 10:36:32 AM
i'm the type of guy that always calls women names like:

babe
baby
honey
sweetie

do you think alot of women hate this?

I know some like it but some only want to be called by their own name

how do you feel when guys call you these names?

Have you ever hear that the word women most love coming from their lovers lips is "their name"?  It's true, BUT not all the time.  Most love being called a pet name as well.

What about any of these for guys:  ???

Sugarlips, bunny-poo, pooksie, pookie-bear, luv-luv, muffin, muffin-cake, teddy-bear, schatzi-poo, or a combo of any of these?

A term of endearment.
My wife calls me "My man"
I call her "woman" or "wiffels" ;)

;D. Those are barely the tip of the iceberg. Pet names are usually very personal and have meaning for two people.

If it's cool w/ THAT person is what matters. What 1 thinks is funny another is offended by.

I love the part of a new relationship where the other is still kind of walking on eggshells to not do ANYTHING to offend... But I act all stupid and do something that I KNOW REALLY PUSHES HER BUTTONS.
I'll act all stupid like I don't know it irks the hell out of her... Then crack up laughing when she sees - I can read her like a book. Usually get swatted at, then laughed at, and appreciated I pay that much attn to her.

Your best advice will come from the specific woman, ...specifically. We're all different,
There is no turn-key, cookie-cutter manual, that will give you an accurate forecast for ALL women.

One safe assumption is, ...whatever you do, ...don't call her by another woman's name.  :)

Hmmm, "terms of endearment", names one uses if one is "playing the field"

Ah hell, try it just for fun. My wife calls me this disgustingly obese customers of ours name for kicks now and then. God, the 1st time she did it absolutely all serious looking... and then laughed so hard she almost couldn't breathe. I'll call her other girls names for a laugh too ;D.

I once had a guy call me "shweetie", ...and I just shot him a look and rolled my eyes. We both laughed,
because we BOTH knew he had caught himself just in time. He almost called me "Sheila". His ex girlfriend who he had been with for 10 yrs was named Sheila, so I let it go. I knew how difficult it can sometimes be to get names straight in the beginning. When I broke up with my first boyfriend, who I had dated for 7 years, I kept calling the next boyfriend by his name. It was devastatingly uncomfortable for me each time I did it. He would just laugh it off, ...but I hated doing it. Funny thing is, when you do that with a guy you're just friends with, ...it's no big deal, ...but do it with a new guy you're dating and you feel mortified.

I don't mind pet names, in fact I love being called Babe.  Terms of Endearment.  And I really don't mind being called by someone else's name if it's their mother or their sister or their best friend, it means they're thinking loving thoughts.  I've gotten used to it, (sh)it happens.

Freudian slip:  "when you say one thing and mean a mother"

In bed it's different, please just shut up with the name calling.

My neighbours and I call each other Honky and Gringo etc., loudly (this is in the middle of multicultural London, so it's funny...

The first time I ever took all my clothes off and got in bed with a man, he called me Mary or something.  I got up outta bed and got dressed and left.  I didn't lose my virginity that night.  I've googled him recently and he's married with 7 kids and now plays with his church band.
