WASHINGTON, DC -- President George W. Bush and the current administration have now borrowed more money from foreign governments and banks than the previous 42 U.S. presidents combined, which the Blue Dog Coalition in the House of Representatives called astounding.?
Throughout the first 224 years (1776-2000) of our nations history, 42 U.S. presidents borrowed a combined $1.01 trillion from foreign governments and financial institutions according to the U.S. Treasury Department. In the past four years alone (2001-2005), the Bush Administration has borrowed a staggering $1.05 trillion.
"The seriousness of this rapid and increasing financial vulnerability of our country can hardly be overstated,? said Rep. John Tanner (TN), a leader of the Blue Dog Coalition and member of the House Ways and Means Committee. The financial mismanagement of our country by the Bush Administration should be of concern to all Americans, regardless of political persuasion.?
The Blue Dogs have long expressed tremendous concern over mounting U.S. debt and are particularly troubled by our growing dependence on foreign governments to finance our debt. Earlier this year, the Coalition offered a 12 Step Plan to cure our nations addiction to deficit spending. The Blue Dog plan required, among other things, that all federal agencies pass clean audits, a balanced budget, and the establishment of a rainy day fund to be used in the event of a natural disaster.
No American political leadership has ever willfully and deliberately mortgaged our country to foreign interests in the manner we have witnessed over the past four years,? continued Rep. Tanner. If this recklessness is not stopped, I truly believe our economic freedom as American citizens is in great jeopardy."
The Blue Dog Coalition is a group of 36 conservative to moderate House Democrats focused on fiscal responsibility.

That's one heck of a list

you forgot kept us safe for 6.5 years following 9/11.
So fucking what? What did they do to prevent 9/11 while being told that even a month before hand by top officials that something like that would happen very soon? Everyone likes to talk about how safe we were kept, all the while our rights were being stripped away, illegal wire taps on US citizens being made, wrongful imprisonments were carried out and the list goes on. How safe were we exactly on 9/11??
Worst thing you could ever say.
-
LOL..that list is a joke and obviously from a liberal source (which are notorious for making up lies). I have list of accomplishments as well by Bush. The one that isn't on there off the top of my head is that he inhereted a recession from Clinton and had the biggest economic turn around in recent memory and that was during wartime. Obama in 2 months has put us more in a deficite than Bush ever could dream of in 8 years, put our country back at high risk for security and hasn't worked since taking office with the exeption of running his pens dry by signing bullshit bills that ruin the country.

Coach, sometimes I really don't get your blind party loyalty. There was nothing conservative about Bush by any stretch of the imagination AND he was objectively a shitty president. Go ponder that on the tree of woe.

I think they held off attacks to help keep GW in power.

Hmmm? Which is wrong? If you can't correct it, stands to reason it must be true.

Bush was bad. No arguement. But if you criticize Bush's spending, you must certainly criticize Obama.
According to the Congressional budget offices, Obama's plans will continue a budget deficit for the next 10 years. The administration far underestimated the costs of their current plans and budgets according to the CBO (report out late last week).
Obama is taking spending to the next level. This is truth, not a partisan complaint. Not all of the spending is going to fight the recession, some is some isn't. Many of the programs being funded will have little to no effect on the recession. Obama certainly has his work cut out because of the recession, but his main solution is enormous spending, at times with little focus. This is hurts the taxpayors.
As an example, look at AIG. Obama's administration allowed AIG to pay billions to foreign banks and allowed these executive bonuses. Getting out of a recession isn't all about spending.

QFT.
Unfortunately, Shootfighter, this is why people like you and I don't run the world - we've got too much common sense.
What we need is for common sense to be labeled as 'extreme' and the maybe we can get millions of lunatic followers like the right and left have.
Stupidity is a wonderful thing...for those who hold the power, that is.
-
you forgot kept us safe for 6.5 years following 9/11.
anthrax attacks happened after 911, ya know

Excellent post by shootfighter1. Obama is printing money to handle the trillons he plans to loan/give to financial corps. And all without proper and solid backing. Compound that with the over the top budget and we have the makings of a bankrupts nation. Almost get the feel that Obama has not a clue what to do and is more of a figurehead president. Tend to wonder who is really pulling the strings behind the scenes on him.
If Obama's goal is to best Bush than the good news is that Obama has dented Bush's list (though how true that list is, or bias, is up to question) even before his first 100 days in office.
Just alone, the many travel days a week Obama takes, in this time of crisis, for speeches to raise personal funds for the Dem's. How about him staying in the White House and actually trying to solve problems. Or the usual recycled former Clinton staffers (there's change for you) he selected for government post, only to find that most of them are above paying their own present or back taxes and other infractions of federal law's. Most are just old political hacks. Will Obama call for criminal charges directed to Sen. Franks and Dodd, for them being the root cause for the mortgage disaster? Let's see if the half brother, Obama, can hang around (no pun intended) the full four years. We all live in interesting time now.
-
Coach must be so proud! Damn Republicans are so good at what they do! Those damn democrats gave us a surplus back in the 1990's they sure as hell don't have a clue what they're doing >:(
fuck yourself, obama has now quadrupled the deficit in 2 months.
-
George Bush and the government terrorised you America with their scare tactics . They are as much terrorists as Al-Qaida.
-
Tre, I love when I hear people just repeating the talking points from the media (both the far right and far left). They don't have an independent mind to evaluate for themself. Its ok to criticize (or praise) both Obama and Bush on individual decisions.
It has been popular to blame everything on Bush and he deserves some criticism, as do many others...but, Obama now owns some of these expansive programs and incredible deficit spending with its limited oversight. He did not inherit all of it, as the administration keeps repeating (thats what the Nazis did...they repeated simple mantras and such and it caught fire with the people). Mantras and slogans are for idiots.
The gov is not a good steward of our tax dollars (nor can they fully control funds alloted to certain entities), thats why I favor limited, but necessary government. I see gov as having some regulatory responsibilities but we must have limits on that power. There must be a balance. If the excessive spending was bad under Bush, its also bad under Obama.
-
The other scary part is this administration's programs are setting long term spending deficits. When he says "I will cut the deficit in half in 4 years", he means his yearly budget deficits, not the national deficit, which increases every year. The debt interest paid as a portion of GDP also increases. Many people are confused with the terms. The Obama administration is wonderful with choosing correct wording and eminating a good image. If Obama is not re-elected in 4 years, much of this spending will still be in effect unless somehow reversed and our taxes will go up or our $ devalued.
I admire the scope of Change this administration is attempting but I would rather they concentrated on the financial mess 1st and then address other topics. When you try to solve too many problems at once, there are just too much that can be missed and often too much $ wasted. If you have a bloated gov, you will have bloated taxation policies eventually. You must pay the piper.
-
So fucking what? What did they do to prevent 9/11 while being told that even a month before hand by top officials that something like that would happen very soon?
The thing that just kills me: We received intelligence stating that several Arab men were enrolled in flight schools across the country - and they weren't concerned about learning take-off or landing procedures!!
And, yes, these were the very same individuals who went on, completely untracked by anyone, to hijack the planes on 9-11.
-
It is nice to hear that there is still some independent thought left in this country. Bush was awful and Obama is sounding even worse. Taxing bonuses / salary makes no sense, there are so many ways to get out of paying taxes. For example, buying more property, gifting money, moving, donations, "office expenses," and my favorite housing interest rates. I am a firm believer of personal responsibility. If you took a 600,000 dollar loan with a 60,000 a year salary, you deserve to be homeless. This is what irks me the most, I am paying for other people's incompetence. The funny thing is that although my tax rate is going up, there is no way in hell the government is going to get a cent of it. For the first time, I am going to lease my cars for my practice, buy more office furniture, start taking my staff out for lunch everyday, gift my children and my wife, more importantly I am going to start donating to charity for the first time in a while (most likely habit for humanity). People do need help in this economy, but I want to do it on my own terms and not those imposed by the government. I have already worked it out with my accoutant. To this day, I still don't understand how people are so easily manipulated by rhetoric and chants. Maybe it is incompetance or maybe social darwinsim at work.

Yeah weak ass anthrax attack that I don't even think killed anybody. ::) Self owning by the terrorists.

I'd like to see a list of how those problems will be fixed.

How about BEFORE 9/11 ? ;)

5 people died. It wasn't the terrorists. It was a domestic source. Part of the fear campaign imo.

A rouge scientist nutjob who eventually killed himself. Not exactly politically motivated. By definition terrorism is politically motivated- So yes, Bush did keep us safe after 911 while Europe was bombed numerous times- Spain, England, etc. If by scare tactics you mean reality, yes we are very scared.
I find it ironic that someone from Europe is relating the Bush admin's scare tactics while Europe is being taken over by radical Islam, has suffered several terrorist attacks since 911 and rather than combat an obvious problem the cowards in Europe are bending to the will of terrorists and their supporters. Instead of forcing the roaches colonizing your continent to assimilate to European traditions, you sissy's are walking on egg shells to make them feel welcome. Meanwhile, nothing has happened here in almost 8 years. Maybe Europe should take stock in American "fear tactics" rather than living in fantasy land.

Maybe we should all stop occupying other peoples' land and then they would turn on each other and leave us alone.

liberals need to remember that Nobama made everyone a promise that he was going to straighten the US economy out. All I have seen in that last 60 plus days is spend spemd spend and point the fingure at the Bush administration.
When will someone tell Nobama that he is the current president and that the former president has left the building. Nobama needs to take his job seriously and quit worrying about his brackets and his trips to LA and Chi town and get his butt planted in DC. I am tired of hearing what a great communicator he is.
IS HE WILLING TO DO WHAT HE HAS PREACHED ABOUT FOR THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF?????????? The guy just loves the rhetoric but won't shake a leg and het his butt moving forward. He needs to quit mentioning what the previous administration did to screw up the economy.

I don't agree. Bush created historic levels of bad debt. Debt for shitty reasons - hundreds of billions in Iraq and 4+ trillion in tax cuts. Obama is creating good debt - rebuilding infrastructure, putting people to work, fixing Bush's mess.
We have to know how we got here to know where we are going. Pretending that the last 8 years aren't worth referencing is not going to cut it.
-
give nobama another year and he will make Bush look good.......you won't complain as much about the Bush administration when you see what Geithner and company are going to foil up.
-
The thing I love about Geithner is that he has enough money to pay his taxes but his ego is such that he feels the rules don't apply to him. I would gain some respect for Barack if he would send Geithner packing.

Good point Decide! Spain has been occupying Palestine, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Somalia for years now. They got what they deserved! ::)
Lets not forget those damned imperial Indians! If only they would give all of India over to Pakistan, there would be no more terrorism!
Countries with majority Muslim populations like Indonesia should also stop occupying Muslim territories!
Canada is also known for its warmongering imperialism. If only they would get out of the middle east, things would be better in the world! What middle eastern country was Canada occupying again?
Decide get with the program. Occupation, no occupation- Muslims by and large in the world are terrorists or support terrorists. The Muslim religion supports terrorism. George W Bush didn't create terrorism- Islam created terrorism. Hope this helps-

Sudan, which is one of the most stringently Islamic countries in the world, has minimal levels of terrorism and no suicide bombing. There is no doubt that Islam is irrational but if you listen to say, the original grievances of Osama, occupation was top on the list. Spain was involved in the Iraq war and Canada is in Afghanistan. You can do this country by country. Listen to an expert, Michael Scheuer, former head of the CIA's Bin Laden unit.
You are right though, American imperialism is far older than G.W.
-
I think the US have overstepped its bounds on several occasions.
As far as Muslims, many of them come to European countries (and North America) and expect their rules, customs and laws to be respected. Many of them create little Arabic communities within the country without trying to assimilate or become immersed in the dominant culture of the country. To me, that is just as wrong.

Sure, many do. If you know anything about my reputation here, I am not saying anything good about Islam. But one should read and learn history and listen to people who actually know about these things.
-
U realize Scheuer is in no way a guy who would agree with u...he believes the rags are a major threat. I love these videos...they take excerpts from the guy and paint a very different picture of what this guy thinks. He said we should have killed Bin Laden in the 90's. The conventional US military didn't want to take the risk. Clinton did, at time want to waste him, but eventually got side tracked. We had Bin laden time and time again, but the morons at State along with apointee's at DOD and some military folks, did not allow our SOF guys to do what they get paid to do. I can't blame Bill anymore, anything I've read says he wanted the guy dead.
Militias backed by the Sudanese government have forced roughly a million people from their homes in the western part of the country. In the North-South conflict that wracked Sudan for 20 years, the Muslim government's favored tool was genocide, directed against the Christian and animist south. The government is conducting genocide again, giving air cover and other support to Arab militias that are cleansing black Sufi Muslims from the western province of Darfur. The North-South war killed 2 million; at least 10,000 have died already in Darfur; and, absent immediate relief, hundreds of thousands more could die.....
Admit ur last post was ridiculous please.

I have read everything he has written and heard most of what he has said. Yes, he is very nationalistic BUT he also says that American foreign policy is fucked up and only hinders our cause which was the part I was highlighting.

Not our business and besides we won't go there as our Chinese masters won't let us.
Admit ur last post was ridiculous please.

I back it up with facts.
If Islamic fundamentalism were the pivotal factor, then we should see some of the largest Islamic fundamentalist countries in the world, like Iran, which has 70 million peoplethree times the population of Iraq and three times the population of Saudi Arabiawith some of the most active groups in suicide terrorism against the United States. However, there has never been an al-Qaeda suicide terrorist from Iran, and we have no evidence that there are any suicide terrorists in Iraq from Iran.
Sudan is a country of 21 million people. Its government is extremely Islamic fundamentalist. The ideology of Sudan was so congenial to Osama bin Laden that he spent three years in Sudan in the 1990s. Yet there has never been an al-Qaeda suicide terrorist from Sudan[/u]

US has certainly interfered too much in some instances (Iraq, Vietnam, etc). Also, blatantly pro-Israel, which I understand to a point. I guess its tough to balance promoting freedom, human rights and democracy vs interfering in other countries. affairs. Plus, helping to monitor the world for terrorists that want to destroy a western way of life. IMO, in general, we should be promoting these ideas without military involvement unless absolutely necessary (Iraq was not absolutely necessary and cost us greatly!)

We should be leaving people and nations alone to make their own decisions. There are enough problems in the US that need to be addressed. And can you name me a single instance in the last few decades when we have intervened for the sake of human rights, freedom and democracy?

Suicide bomber attacks Baptist church killing six children
A Baptist church in Sudan was attacked by a suicide bomber on September 27, killing five children instantly, while another child died later at a hospital.
The church, located in the town of Khorfullus in the Upper Nile region in Southern Sudan, was attacked during an evening worship service.
At least four worshippers were injured, including the pastor, John Monykuer Wuor. They were taken to the Malakal Hospital where one of the hospitalized children succumbed to his injuries two days later. At least three of the others remain in critical condition.
According to Saphano Riak Chol, executive secretary of Faith Evangelical Baptist Church in Sudan, The suicide bomber was in full army uniform, but at the time of reporting, his motive could not be ascertained.
Chol, who alerted the Baptist World Alliance of the incident, declared that We in the leadership condemn this act of wickedness in the strongest terms possible, and asserted that the incident was an attempt to Suppress the church.
Southern Sudan, mostly Christian and ethnically African, as against the mainly Muslim north which is largely Arab, has seen more than two decades of ethnic cleansing that has left an estimated two million people dead and more than four million displaced.

JORDANIAN FORCES STEP UP IRAQI BORDER SECURITY
Jordan has increased its security measures on the Iraqi border in order to prevent car bombs and other threatening material from entering the kingdom. These steps come after the October 9 car bombing at the Iraqi al-Qadisiyah border post, which wounded six Iraqi border police (Daily Star, October 10). According to an article in Asharq al-Awsat on October 14, the car bomb was driven by a Sudanese suicide bomber who had his hands "shackled to the steering wheel with iron chains." As part of the new security measures, Jordanian and Iraqi security services will set up sand barriers and other prevention techniques in order to thwart future attacks on the border area and prevent the penetration of Jordanian territory. Furthermore, after the incident, Jordanian security forces searched the eastern gate of the border on the Iraqi side; they removed some 12 tons of military waste and 70 "serviceable missiles" (Asharq al-Awsat, October 14). In November 2005, al-Qaeda in Iraq sent operatives across the Jordanian border to execute coordinated suicide bomb attacks against hotel targets in Amman.

None of which refutes my point that the West should leave the Islamic world to rot in its medievalism.

Uh...Kuwait...Bosnia...a myriad of small missions in Africa...Afghanistan...K osovo.....ur kidding right. Just because these things further our own interests, does not lessen the impact of what they've done for the average citizen of those countries.

::) I wish there was a better eye roll- your comment deserves about 50 of these.
You should either throw yourself off the nearest 100 foot ledge or should be banned from posting here for 5 years for such a moronic statement.
Do you consider genocide committed by the Islamic Dictatorship comparable to terrorism? OR is the fact that the International Justice Court has charged Sudan's leader with crimes against humanity an accident?
How about the fact that Bin Laden operated from the Sudan for several years and still has ties to the area?
Raping, Starving and murdering your own countrymen? Terrorism? Of course not. Its just Muslims being neighborly!
