MSNBC's Rachel Maddow suffers big audience loss
MSNBC show host Rachel Maddow has suffered some steep audience erosion in recent months, down more than 40 percent in viewership from her peak last fall during the election.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Maddow's audience has gone from a high of 1.9 million viewers in the fall to just over 1.1 million in March. That's a big drop.
Readers of this blog know I am just as troubled by Maddow's brand of ideologically driven partisan propaganda as I am by that of Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity on Fox. Maddow was at her worst last week, falsely minimizing the tea parties held across the country as "the fizzle in the drizzle" and mocking the participants.
You could hardly have a better example as to how an ideologue distorts an event or facts to fit her or his worldview -- the opposite of journalism.
Maddow was not much better than Hannity, whom I criticized here, for his rabble-rousing on behalf of the tea-bag protesters in Atlanta, whom he was supposed to be covering.
"I think Rachel is a rock star," Phil Griffin, the president of MSNBC, told the Times.
That's one of the problems with MSNBC: It's looking for "rock stars" instead of journalists or analysts to host its shows. If a rock star's CD sales dropped by 44 percent, believe me, the record company would be worried.
Soon her ratings will look just like gutless Keiths.

This backs up what I've said all along. People are compelled to watch train wrecks and disasters. Olbermann points out the daily train wrecks at Fox News and and consequently Bill O and others there benefit from their viewers AND Olbermann viewers. With Bill O, he's constantly getting highlighted for the moron he is not just on Olbermann but many other shows too, like Colbert. All these viewers end up landing on his show to watch the disaster live. This has to be true, where are all the approving Bill O'Rielly fans online? Search him and it's a never ending laugh fest and criticism. Not many Bill O is awesome pages out there. so of course his ratings are higher, people love a good train wreck as these above ratings show.

Huh??!? As I pointed out to "True Adonis," if people want entertainment, they tune in to Idol or their favorite sitcom or whatever strikes their fancy at any given moment. If they want news, they'll tune into a source they like and trust. Is that really so hard to figure out? You're trying too hard to over-intellectualize this whole issue.

IT does. Sadly you have no historical understanding of the founding principles of the United States and to which the Third Ammendment of the Constitution was derived from. This being Washington`s strong conviction against torture towards other armies and towards the citizens as was common place for the British to do under colonial rule regarding unlawful quartering of soldiers and the taking of property under the threat of torture.
This is a fundamental American Ideal that laid the foundation of our Democracy and for you to turn a blind eye to it just proves that not only do you not know the history of your country, you have no interest in it and you have no interest in preserving the ideals set forth for our republic.

I know plenty about my country, to include the Revolutionary War. If fact I did my junior thesis in college on the counter insurgency campaign in the south, during that time. I looked at what the Brits did to try and stop Francis Marion. This was long before the movie with Gibson came out. The Brits tortured and massacred US forces and the Americans did the same. Washington might have been against such things, but men like Marion where not...its war. I'm sure Washington got over it.
As for preserving our republic...I do it every day. U sit on ur ass.

You need to read the Federalist papers, James Madison`s Convention notes and examine historical events which led to the creation of the 3rd amendment. Torture being one of the influences.
The Constitution itself is simply a document of short laws with no explanation behind them. This goes for all amendments.
You need to dig a little deeper.

You made the arguement that Washington was against such acts, yet it was ok for Marion to do much the same, in order to keep the heat off his boys as he got organized up North.

I have to disagree. Olbermann and Glen Beck do report the news, Olbermann just happens to be fact heavy whereas Beck and Oreilly tend not to champion evidence or fact.
That is the difference. Olbermann reports akin to Edward R. Murrow.

You can state your case as matter-of-factly as you like but it's still nothing more than your opinion and when referring to the above pundits, your opinion would put you in the minority (look at their ratings). Those who prefer, say, O'Reilly's or Beck's take on the news over Olbermann's or Maddow's could (and do) make just as compelling of a case for their guy.
But I'm sure that's just because the majority are all idiots and you're so much smarter than they are.

I wasn't doing a this guy vs. that guy. These programs are primarily criticism and opinion based on current news, not just news delivery. It doesn't mean I don't think they have value, I watch Olbermann daily.

I do because it promotes stupidity and allows them the credibility they do not deserve. Also, I do so when they interject faith where it does not belong and when it hinders scientific,societal and technological progress.
They can believe whatever they want to believe, but I have a right to call them on their nonsense and credulity. I can ridicule them freely as faith should NEVER get a free pass. The belief of something in the absence of evidence or in spite of the evidence should ALWAYS be called into question and ridiculed for what it is.

I listened to her quite a bit before she was on MSNBC, on her radio show. Back when she first started on Air America, I actually thought and mentioned to my wife several times that she reminded me of a female Hannity. One of the things I hate about Hannity is his extreme arrogance. His nose is higher than anybody else out there and he speaks down to everyone like they're completely retarded. I didn't like Maddow from the start because she had that same kind of arrogant superiority in the tone of everything she says. As her popularity grew, I chalked it off to being just me, nobody else seemed to see that or were not as annoyed with it as I was. Olbermann sure fell in love with her.

On ocassion. I was laughing about the accuracy part. I realize that everyone makes mistakes, but that word seems to be the "M" in MSNBC.
One of my favorites happens to involve Rachel Maddow. They were talking about politics in Florida and whether or not Florida would go for Obama. Maddow starts her chirping, throwing in a claim that conservatives were "desperately" trying to gather signatures for the state's marriage amendment. She claim that they weren't anywhere close to the required signatures.
Apparently, she ran with a story that a FL politician used a last-minute technicality to void some of the signatures on the petiton. I thought that the amendment was done. But, a week later, I found out that, while the technicality was used, conservatives were able to rally and get enough signatures to get the amendment on the ballot.
The rest, now known as Amendment 2, is history.
