you feel an affinity for 150 pound 'cage warriors' who couldn't knock out my gramma?

how weak a shot do you have to have to hit a guy on the button repeatedly and not even knock him down?

lol.

Bellator has been great this year.... and its all free.  I have never seen a turn around in any fight like this.  How Warren made the bell is mind-boggling!  Soto was picking him off at will and laughing all the while. Warren need to work on his boxing ....but hats off to him!! Imagine if he wins the round robin!

Edit: Warren gets the Bantamweight belt from Soto, yes?

Won't be free for long, I have 2 fighters who fight in Bellator and soon they will be going PPV.

So Bellator wont be free for much longer? Thats too bad.  The fights have been wickedly good and its great to watch new names (or no-names?) come through.  Who are your 2 fighters?

Your "gramma"? How about you? Why don't you do into any MMA gym and pick out any, any one at all, no matter how small, and see how long you last. If it's so easy and you can do so much better why don't you? Top fighters become millionaires now.

You have no idea. Not one iota of a clue what these guys can do to you. I witnessed Royler Gracie, at 135 pounds, beat the crap out of a 6'1" 250 pound muscle man thug who had beaten the shit out of one of his students who stood at 6 ft even and about 215 and was a White belt.

When I hear guys like you talk it is clear to me, and every single one here that has some experience, that you know nothing. Absolutely nothing about fighting. You're just like that McAnus guy that just talks.

You operate on the retarded premise that people who say that haven't had any formal fight training at all, ever. If you think really hard, until it hurts, then you'd realize this is patently incorrect.

In total? 10 years of judo, 2 of sambo. Not world class material by any means. But could I take someone literally half my size, even though they are technically far superior? Yes.

Judo? LOL! We're talking fighting. No disrespect to the sport but that's what it is -- a sport with a lot of rules and practically useless if you and you're opponent is not wearing a gi. As a blue belt in Jiu-Jitsu I easily tapped out Black Belts in Judo no gi. Easily.

Sambo guys are tougher in a fight. Maybe those two years did you some good.

Just go three minutes with the average MMA trainee and you will quickly see how much skill is involved. I don't mean this in anyway as a threat or tough guy routine but it's really the only way some people will learn. That's what I liked about the Gracies when they came to the US to promote their art. After all the debate and back and forth they would just say, "Well, lets just fight and find out."

I saw a demonstration given by the 2nd Hapiko guy in this tape in California. To say he looked impressive would be an understatement. Super skilled and athletic. Of course he claimed that his art was the best. He stood no chance against an aging Rorion Gracie who had long retired from competitive fighting when he stepped up and said, "We'll see about that."

Really and truly me going around with a mma fighter is neither here nor there
at the end of the day... How do you know I wouldn't win.... Or prove my point
you don't know me so it's best not to even divert or personalise the topic

but to retort do you remember TANK ABBOTT  when he came to ufc at first he destroyed everyone all those mma so called skilled fighters do you remember that?

In my eyes boxing is a skilled sport it. 90% of mma fights I watch are like two men brawling and not even doing it well, I spend half the time laughing I actually sometimes watch it for pure entertainment value .. Not for the fighting "skill" put on display.

One thing I will concede though is I see skill when it's taken to the mat. Submissions holds etc that takes skill.
Aside from that

The same thing happened in Warren's last fight. Patricio Pitbull completely dominated him in first round to the point where Warren was saved by the bell. Then, Warren took over and won the next two rounds and the decision.

Did you see the women's fight between Aslyn Dailey and Lisa Ward? During round two, Dailey took Ward down and they stayed in a North/South position for like two minutes. About 30 seconds in, I was hoping they would forget about the fight and start eating each other out.

Meso, boxing requires exceling in one skill...boxing.

MMA requires being competent in several martial arts including BJJ, boxing, wrestling, muay Thai, etc. and exceling in at lease one of those...usually BJJ or wrestling.

Today's MMA competitors are highly skilled and extemely well conditioned athletes.

I agree MMA requires being competent in several martials arts (and having good condition ) but you don't have to be highly skilled in any of them  to be competitive in MMA .

If it doesn't take skill, then everybody has an equal shot at arriving to the top of their respective weight class. A BJ Penn or Anderson Silva would really then have no edge over you, right? A flip of a coin.

What is stopping you from trying and setting the record straight?

I remember that fight as well. The guy cover himself with grease so it would be hard to hold him and take him down. Turned out it just made the choke slide in that much easier.

Good times then. Good times. Here it's just talk, talk, talk. At least with the Graicies and their students you would just step up and settle things where it mattered. I wish I took videos of the underground fights we had.

EXACTLY! When all is said and done it is very, very easy to prove. Very few do. And when they do they become believers. After a broken rib and a partially dislocated elbow I became a believer. And it's not because Royler wanted to hurt me. I wanted to be a tough guy. Couldn't believe I was getting tooled by this scrawny midget and I got angry, acted like dick turning a friendly sparring session into a fight and didn't want to tap. I learned a valuable lesson that day.

No big muscles, no tribal tats, no mean mugging or cocky tough guy persona -- always a smile and treats you like family.

That's not what you said. Did I even mention Royce? No matter what my age I have a feeling I am in far, far better shape than you. Just by body composition alone. You want to prove me wrong and post a pic or are you just talk again?

Make fun of MMA fighters all you want if it makes you feel good and compensates for the insecurity you feel that guys half your size can kick your ass. What you won't do it, because you are just all talk and have no balls, and step up and see for yourself.

In real life, when you see someone you think is a fighter you will look down and avert your gaze so you don't call attention to yourself because you fear getting your sorry ass kicked.

We can have these arguments all you want but it is easily, easily solved. That's if you have the balls to see for yourself.

A lot of insecure quifs on GetBig.  Of all the martial arts disciplines, BJJ & Wrestling are by far the most effective.  This has been proven time and time again.  There are dozens of videos that can be posted of skinny twits making muscle-bound badd-asses tap for their life.

The bottom line, big over developed muscles are good for absolutely nothing.  Chicks don't like them.  Schmoes love them.  They don't help you in a fight.  And, as it turns out, it's unhealthy.

This is where you MMA mix martial arts losers don't understand, always saying if you see so and so in the streets he will kick yada yada ass... what in the world makes you think that anyone in the streets will wanna roll around with you or them.... I only fight the Joe Pesci way

If you have no ground skills, and you go up against a wrestler, you will be taken down and then be ground and pounded into oblivion.  Or, if you go up against a skilled BJJ fighter you will be choked out and have a limb broken.

You're only hope for keeping the fight on your feet is to learn wrestling take down defense.

all i said was that neither of those guys had knock out power, and i am right, you tool.

That's not what you said.

how weak a shot do you have to have to hit a guy on the button repeatedly and not even knock him down?

yeah, it is what i said, pickle tits. see- its right there ^.

secondly, you know nothing about me. keep making broad references to any ability i might or might not have- this alone goes to highlight the depth of your ignorance and stupidity, which seems to run rampant amongst you cage fighting type gladiators- 'im a cage fighter, so i can kick your ass' its like a default setting for you guys. lol.

guys like you are the reason a lot of people like to bash MMA- you took a couple of classes rubbing your crotch on some puerto rican and now your attitude is bigger than you ability to back it up.

congrats on that, by the way.

Did you see the promo video they made with Royce and my friend Craig Kukuk.  It was a nightclub scene.  Royce was with his girlfriend at a nightclub.  Royce had to use the restroom and left.  When he left, Craig came and started to pick up on Royce's girlfriend.  Criag is a bit larger than Royce.  Well when Royce came back he confronted Craig.  They argues for a few seconds then Craig tried to throw a punch at Royce.  Royce jumped up and grabbed Craig's arms then climbed on his shoulders and gave him an armbar.  That was the video they used to promote themselves to Hollywood.

Rorian wanted to break into Hollywood.  When they first did that Hollywood execs told them that rolling around on the ground was boring.  So they made the tape.  Rorian then got hired to help the fight scenes in Lethal Weapon.  He wanted to waive any money he was going to get paid if they mentioned Gracie Jiu Jitsu in the film.  Well, they wouldn't do that but if you remember in the film where Danny Glover says something to Mel like "knowing jiu-jitsu makes you some kind of lethal weapon I guess".  Something like that but didn't include "Gracie".  And also in the film you can see where Mel uses it on Gary Busey.  And that launched their Hollywood presence

QFT. And I'm starting to notice that even the general public are beginning to catch on to the dirty secret about bodybuilders and big muscles. And I don't mean drugs. Everyone knows about that. I mean that big muscles -- huge muscles that starts effect how you walk and move is not only detrimental to your health but a hindrance to any sort of athletic and functional ability. Big muscles is really starting to lose its sheen and becoming less and less impressive.

When I first move to Cali in the 1980s I went to the mall and saw a bodybuilder walking around in a tank top. People, including myself, were in awe. The guy looked like a walking superman. Yesterday I was getting my oil change at Sears and sat around in the mall people watching. A muscle man in a tank top was strutting around and everyone, without exception, just looked at him and shook their heads as if to say, "Oh brother. Put on a shirt for crying out loud. Nobody is impressed steroid boy."

My how times have changed.

i did that move to a guy who had just hit a couple of my firends at Don Jose's in Torrance.  As I came up to him he hit me 3 times square in the face.  I didn't move and took him down after running him through a couple tables.  I had just learned it about a couple weeks before so I thought I would try it.  Boy it worked.  Several minutes later I was told the guy was in the restroom and he shit his pants.  Probably from having 300 pounds on top of him

I didn't pursue my dream of becoming a pro fighter because I wasn't good enough. As you moved up the ladder you soon realize where you stand. Unlike bodybuilding where you can delude yourself indefinitely, in fighting there is a very real physical price you pay when you lose.

I don't remember the promo tape but I started at the Gracie Academy in 1991 when they first opened and remember all that stuff. Remember Rorion talking about bringing Vale Tudo to the U.S. and calling it the Ultimate Fighter. He had pictures of him and Mel plastered in his office.

People can say what they want about the Gracies, and Rorion in particular, but no one can argue that he changed  Martial Arts throughout the world forever. What Helio did in Brasil, Rorion did to the rest of the world.

Yes and I can say I had a big part of it since I introduced the person who wrote the Time Magazine article on me (Pat Jordan who is Meg Ryans dad) to them and he flew in from Florida and did an article on them that appeared in Playboy (14 pages).  After that they were constantly being contacted.  I always wondered what I would be doing if I hung around LA and didn't move to Hawaii.

It's amazing that all of knew of you at that time was when you bounced at Tequila Willies and then your name would pop up every now then over the years. We live in the same area, knew a lot of the same crowd, trained at gyms just a few miles away (Muscle Mill and Barlow's/Kasey) yet never formally met. You looked pretty intimidating during your bouncing days so I wasn't about to walk up to BS.

BTW, I understand now about your animosity towards Podda. I heard those stories about him cheating people and giving them bunk. I was just so in awe of him and his intensity. Believe or not but he's now studying to become a priest. I have a friend that's pretty close to Podda and have kept in contact with him throughout the years. Even during his cave dwelling times -- LOL!

Pankration (MMA) was one of the original Olympic sports.

From Wiki:

Pankration (pronounced /pćŋˈkrɑːti.ɒn/ or /pćŋˈkreɪʃən/; from Ancient Greek: Παγκράτιον /paŋkrátion/ "all-in wrestling"[1] Modern Greek: Παγκράτιο /pa(ŋ)ˈɡratio/) is a combat sport introduced into the Greek Olympic Games in 648 BC and founded as a blend of boxing and wrestling. The term comes from the Ancient Greek παγκράτιον, literally meaning "all powers" from πᾶν (pan) "all" + κράτος (kratos) "strength" or "power". It is also used to describe the sport's contemporary variations. Some consider it as the first all-encompassing fighting system in human history.[citation needed]  It is also arguable that pankration competitions in antiquity were the closest an athletic event has come to outright, no-rules, empty hand combat.[citation needed] Modern mixed martial arts  competitions have come to feature many of the same methods that were used in pankration competitions in the ancient Greek world.[2]

Pankration

Toledo 1961.24
Side B: pankration
Photograph by Maria Daniels, courtesy of the Toledo Museum of Art

This event was a grueling combination of boxing and wrestling. Punches were allowed, although the fighters did not wrap their hands with the boxing himantes.

Rules outlawed only biting and gouging an opponent's eyes, nose, or mouth with fingernails. Attacks such as kicking an opponent in the belly, which are against the rules in modern sports, were perfectly legal.

Like boxing and wrestling, among others, this event had separate divisions for both men and boys.

The poet Xenophanes describes the pankration as "that new and terrible contest...of all holds" (Xenophanes 2)

Anyways I'm a fan of both, but like my good buddy SgtSpar says.... I can't remember someone challenging me to a pose down on the street.

Yea it really is strange how we never met.  I was everywhere.  You should have come up to me at Tequilla Willies.  We would have been friends then you would have had a bodyguard while you there and never wait in line.

Dude im from Inglewood, Ca... Used to be a very dangers place to live in, plenty of fights growing up, played high school football and college football, i been tossed around by 6'5 monsters on the field and never backed down, but as you get older fighting is not necessary, a good beer and good friendship is all you need. I dont fight anymore because i dont feel the need for it and i dont get enraged like you guys do. Have a beer, sit down and enjoy your day  8)

Are you aropund my age (50).  I grew up in Hawthorne and Manhattan Beach.  Went to Hawthorne High.  Played Inglewood all the time in football and baseball.  Was in the biggest baseball fight ever.  Cleared both benches the stands and even people from the track meet.  it was awesome.  It used to be really nice then bad then kinda nice again.  How is it now.  I used to work with my friends dad in high school on weekends delivering the Sunday LA Times to all the stores in Inglewood.  We did that on Saturday and Sunday mornings at 4am.  Now that was fun

secondly, you know nothing about me. keep making broad references to any ability i might or might not have- this alone goes to highlight the depth of your ignorance and stupidity, which seems to run rampant amongst you cage fighting type gladiators- 'im a cage fighter, so i can kick your ass' its like a default setting for you guys. lol.

guys like you are the reason a lot of people like to bash MMA- you took a couple of classes rubbing your crotch on some puerto rican and now your attitude is bigger than you ability to back it up.

congrats on that, by the way.

This thread is awesome.

I'm surprised the boxing vs MMA didn't last that long. But it didn't take that long for someone to list their fight record so that's good. I'm like 39-0 in MMA matches myself and have been fighting for nearly 50 years. I used to bounce but got tired of beat the shit out of losers all night. It took so much energy fighting 3 or 4 guys at a time so I couldn't bang all the fresh trim waiting for me. But now I just wear Tapout gear to 24 hour fitness so everyone knows who the king shit is. I might move gyms though I've banged every girl there and all the bodybuilders want a piece of my ass. Can't blame'em though. At 6'2" 310 pounds and only 5% body fat they are a little jealous. There are a couple guys bigger than me of course but when I'm doing my last bench set with 405 they STFU. I'm down to 5 sets of 100 reps. You should have seen me in the good old days.

Just to let you know I'm not bias. I tried boxing for a while but I liked the homeless lifestyle most MMA guys live. Sure there are a few at the top but the other 99% sleep on the couch of the 1%. So I gave it up and decided to be a hunt sharks with an assortment of pocket knives. I like the outdoors.

Oh and in the original Olympics I don't think they had weight classes. Which is good cause all you have to do is ask an MMA jock and they'll tell you the smaller they are the more skilled and bad ass they are. They don't let them fight the big guys cause they would kill them all. No honest, just ask them.

The old school mma guys back in the royce gracie tournament days claimed 100+ wins. One guy was 250 - 0. Of course he got his ass kicked. lol.

Tank Abbott is this guy a skilled fighter ... No just a strong guy who can punch and in his heyday he silenced a lot of critics... He dominated a lot of mma "fighters" by purely being strong and being able to brawl.
Do you think they could give him a pair of boding gloves and put him in a boxing ring and tell him to go dominate a world class heavyweight.... Boxer  :-\

The world just saw what happened to a boxer that thought that same thing.  He didn't last one round or land one punch.  Tank Abbott wrestled all the way through college and was a 500lb bencher.  He still didn't do anything when he fought good MMA fighters.

NO MMA FIGHTERS OR THEIR FANS CLAIM THAT ANY MMA FIGHTER CAN BEAT A WORLD CLASS BOXER IN THE RING UNDER BOXING RULES!!!!!!! HOW MANY TIMES DOES THIS POINT HAVE TO BE MADE??????

Friend, it is the boxers, well actually the boxing fans like Avery, who claim that boxers can beat MMA fighers in the cage and in the street. We, MMA fans, simply state that A BOXER, FIGHTER SOLELY AS A BOXER, MEANING NO MUY THAI, WRESTLING OR JIU-JITSU TRAINING WILL HAVE NO CHANCE IN THE CAGE AND IN THE STREET.

Boxing is a highly skilled and specialized sport. They can only punch and only have to protect their face and upper body. They don't have to defend against kicks, elbows, take downs and submissions. Boxers only get mad respect from MMA fighters and fans. It is the boxers, rather just the boxing fans, that seem threaten by MMA and are constantly criticizing the sport and claiming they would not hold up to boxers in the street.

Pellius that was a lot of dissrespect for Judo in your earlier post. A lot of Judokai's train no gi and a lot of guys put a decent focus on ne-waza, try not to generalize so much. Kimura had his way with Helios before the Gracies fully realised self promotion. Down to the individual.

You are correct. I tend to be a hot head and shoot off my mouth and be a real dick. Judo and Jiu-Jitsu are intimately related.

Do you really think that being "strong" and "able to brawl" is enough to be a successful MMA fighter ???  That's exactly what Kimbo Slice was.  The "badass street fighter" that would kill all the "mma guys".  Yet, he was utterly embarrassed when he give it his all in MMA.

And, even though Kimbo sucked that bad, he still managed to beat piss out of Tank Abbot (see link below).  Speaking of Tank, not sure why you keep bringing him up.  He was a complete embarrassment to MMA.  Just so you know, his record is 10 wins and 14 losses.  None of the wins that he has, are over any notable opponents.  Get this, most of the no-name fighters he beat, have more losses on their records than they do wins.  One guy has 7 wins and 20 losses...lol.  Another guy, 0 wins and 5 losses.

Tank is exactly what you're talking about Meso, a no skill brawler.  And, that is why he failed so miserably against skilled MMA fighters.

Here is clip of Tank, in his prime, getting dominated by a "no skill mma guy".  Tank begs for the ref to stop the fight...lol.

It's not your father's MMA anymore.

That was 15 years ago; it was a nascent sport. UFC back then was more of an open challenge and contest to anyone that, quite frankly, had the balls.

Mindspin don't be biased tank destroyed some mma fighters in his prime... Why post a clip of him losing and not one of him punching the daylights out of a few of this "mixed martial arts" guys... Tank at 37 and  fighting a younger faster 23 year old is not an example of tank at his prime ... Anyway like I said brawled who battered skilled mma fighters . Mindspin old friend were gonna have to disagree on this one
to me MMA is garbage...

Here's another great Tank Moment.  Here Tank is 30 years old....

The only time I've seen ghey shit go down, has been in Bally's Fitness and Gold's gyms.  Twice I've seen juiced up horndogs stroking in the showers.  I've never seen it in a boxing, BJJ or MMA gym...

legitmate by whose standards???

Meaning they have a record with more wins than loses, and those wins are over guys with legit records.  Let me save you the trouble.  The closest thing to a legit fighter that Tank has a win over, is Cabbage.  They each beat each other once.  The other nine wins are over no name guys with either minimal fights (5 or less) or whose records have more loses than wins...

That's not the definition of legitimate
the fighters tank fought were legitimate mma fighters as in a part of the federation
simple

Meso, boxing requires exceling in one skill...boxing.

MMA requires being competent in several martial arts including BJJ, boxing, wrestling, muay Thai, etc. and exceling in at lease one of those...usually BJJ or wrestling.

Today's MMA competitors are highly skilled and extemely well conditioned athletes.

I do for once agree with this clutz, the UFC is a million times more skilled than it was in the mid 90s
