RX is a bit on the soft side........you plan on staying on the injury board? It can get rough on outside.

If RX is too soft for ya then come through AS.
I was in the mood for this right now. Or science-based chatter. Plus, not sure what you mean by 'rough.' ; )

hello
i recently had a full distal bicep tendon rupture on my left arm
had surgey sept 14th-they did a new type of surgery-only 1 incision and i could move my arm a few days after
ive been doing rehab for 3 weeks(as of tommorow)
they have me doing
arm pendulum circles w/ 2lbs-20 times clock and counterclockwise
wall slides w towel-forward and lateral-20 times each
2lb dumbell curls and hammer curls-2 sets of 10
overhead dowel raises-underhand-1 set 20
wrist curls and reverse wrist curls w/ 4lbs-2 sets of 10 each
wrist rotations w/ 3lb weight-1 set of 20
stretching my arm by holding the wrist in handshake postion, then twisting the forearm to the left for 30 secs palm up, and to the right palms down for 30 secs-repeat each 2 times
towel squeezes-3 sets 10
holding the arm flexed trying to touch my fist to shoulder-30 secs-repeated 2 x
laying on table and letting arm hang off side and stretch for 5 mins
bicep curls feel sore when doing them and tight
my wrist and forearm get real tight and sore-after i stretch my arm it feels better
day by day it feels better
whats your opinion?
i was very active b4 my accident
thanks

Appears to be standard rehab procedures. Looks as if rehab has been careful to avoid doing too much too early. But, you're even exercising biceps isotonically. Traditionaly, biceps are avoided until at least four to six weeks after surgery. The exercises you've reported work the biceps muscle without straining the healing tendon and allowing your shoulder girdle to maintain range of motion.
You might require therapy for two to three months. Remember that it generally takes four to six months to perform forceful biceps activities. You're might heal at a faster rate considering your particular surgery.
All in all. You're fine. Be patient.

You'll be fine. Sounds like a minor muscle strain.

LOL. Well, strains take a bit more time than a day to heal.

Yes. But, still be careful because those back muscles and scapulae stabilizers are stLLill active during chest exercise.

thank u very much!
why do u think i keep getting sore in my wrist...but not in my bicep? stretching seems to help it...
also, do u think a machine pullover , machine shoulder press, and a machine dip(where u kneel on the pad and it goes up and down) would be safe?
thanks

Well, this is a lot of wrist exercise for someone who had a biceps tear and surgery.
Other structures besides your biceps are likely compensating.
Those exercises appear fine as long as you start with no load. Becareful during dips becauses the biceps lengthens greatly. Consult with your PT that you're seeing first.

when i have my arm supinated and i massage trauma oil on my forearm i get a tingly jolt through my whole arm-its very sensitive
surgery was on sept 14th
in rehab i do:
left arm arm bike 10 mins-5 mins forward, 5 mins backward
sitting in a chair pulling a pulley down and up w/ both arms
3lb perndulum swings, clock and counter clockwise
wall slides w/ 2lb weight on my wrist-forward and lateral
ball rolls on sloped table w/ arm
4lb shrugs
4lb curls
4lbs hammer curls
overhead dowel raises
dowel curl w/ 4lb weight on it
rotator cuff band work
light machine rows
lifting a square pipe device overhead -forward and lateral
4lb wrist curls, reverse wrist curls
4lb wrist roatations, left and right

PT jobs are out there, but the schooling is not easy.
I don’t know if it’s taken affect yet, but there was talk that ALL physical therapists would eventually be required to obtain their DPT (Doctor of Physical Therapy) which would require more schooling and expense.
PT’s are common in the rehab department in hospitals.
In this environment, they usually treat patients following orthopedic surgeries.
There are also PT outpatient clinics that deal with post-op and a variety of other conditions such as injuries, etc.
There are some lucrative postions within many PACE programs.
The work is fairly easy and the pay and work conditions are very good with no weekend or shift work.
Becoming a PT is neither easy nor cheap.
Also, there aren’t many schools that offer PT programs, and such programs are very competitive to get into.
