Outed, for not seeing a clear joke.

Yeah, because his stomach isn't bigger than his chest...
while they have sacrificed proportions and aesthetics for size since the early 90's, present pros have way more muscle mass than oldy days guys

eh, it's called progress.
if pros looked like that, then skinny twigs with SHIT genetics and SHIT common sense for GROWING would feel A LOT better about themselves.
everytime I hear "I wish pros would look more attainable".. blah blah blah... it makes me think what they're really saying "I can't grow for shit, so instead of me making progress, I wish others would get worse "

Sorry, but that is a stupid post.
If it looks inspirational and attainable, people will attempt to try and achieve it. That is how you safeguard the future of the sport. It doesn't matter if it is unattainable. It looks like it is and that is what is important.
If it just looks 'awesome' then people will pay to look but nobody will really participate since it is obvious that it is unattainable.
Everyone looks at the freaks at the zoo but nobody seriously wants to become one. That is why bodybuilding is killing itself with its lack of direction and its catering to a stupid fan base.

we do have pros that look like the top bodybuilders of the 60s. but they don't pose or flex. they come out on stage, put their hand on their hip, do a quarter turn, do another quarter turn, then walk off stage. We call it IFBB Men's Pro Physique. they seem to be quite the draw, outselling many pro bodybuilding events
-
Because it has become okay to have ghastly proportions and medioker condition if it means you can come in a little bigger. And a gut has been embraced as a natural thing in bodybuilding to the point it looks strange if you don't have it.
People say Yates ushered in the guts but I'd say Ronnie Coleman helped to make it standard even more.
-
People say Yates ushered in the guts...
No, it was the judges who did that.
-
He certainly is beautiful. We should all complain that today's contest winners don't look as appealing. Many of the modern physiques aren't even worth staring at long enough to find the areas that you don't even want your own body to resemble.

Besides that Robinson and Zane were at their peak in the late 70s and early 80s, you're picking the best of the best. Look at the rest of the guys from the 60s and even early 70s and they have similar builds as this new Physique category. Zane in the 60s and early 70s would certainly fit in the Physique division. Look at the Physique division from this past NPC Nationals, especially the tall classes. http://pics.musculardevelopment.com/index.php?mode=contest&contestcode=29 (http://pics.musculardevelopment.com/index.php?mode=contest&contestcode=29) They look like bodybuilders from the 60s and early 70s.
But my post was to criticize the Physique contests. It's stand and model. No flexing. So the winner is who looks best relaxed, which certainly is not the same as who would look best flexed. And those board shorts. Why should anyone waste time on squats when no one will ever see their legs?
Why not just put the guys in posing suits and call it Classic Bodybuilding?
But people are buying tickets. At this weekend's LA Pro Physique Championships (Matt Christianer won), the auditorium was packed. Probably more so than the Flex LA Championships, certainly more so than the last few Ironman. In recent years, look at how many men's pro bodybuilding contests go two years and then the promoters give up. The fans aren't showing up for the mass monsters.
Just as Pro Figure has pushed out women's pro bodybuilding (this year there are 5 pro bodybuilding contests, and 20 pro figure), Pro Physique has the chance of pushing out men's pro bodybuilding. (we'll have to wait and see if women's pro physique pushes out pro figure).

Larry had no shoulder width, but excellent arms trained under Vince Gironda back in the day. Claimed to have attained his arm size from the Preacher bench curls but it's genes he could done any kind of curl and same result.
-
Re: WHY can't pro's look like this???
Because you no longer have access to knowledgeable sports doctors who can scientifically determine optimal doses and write prescriptions for human grade steroids manufactured by real pharmaceutical companies.
-
these tiny tits are not real belly builders. :-\

U do have a point in one of jays recent vids filmed while he was driving jay discusses how popular men's physique is becoming and more and more guys aspire to those physiques and competitions rather than taking up "bodybuilding" and competing in bbing
