Spot 5 - I'm guessing he's slightly stronger than Zod because of longer exposure to the sun.

“You’ve grown stronger here than we ever could have imagined. The only way to know how strong is to keep testing your limits.”

Awesome!

I think the movie will be good because I think Hollywood has learned that they have to be more kick-ass with Superman and stop portraying him as a boy scout...but if this movie tanks it will kill the franchise for 20 years

The only part of the movie I really enjoyed was the rescue from the plane. It was bad ass. The remainder of the movie sucked. They tried to do a remake of the Christopher Reeve Superman basically. Only they added the kid, boyfriend, and slightly changed Luther's land plan.

Luther has no place in this new trilogy, running around with a piece of green rock just won't cut it. Bring on Doomsday, Shazam/Black Adam and Dark Side.  Brainiac won't work, because Unbound wasn't that good.

Yeah.  As a young kid Superman was who I really wanted to be.  Truth, Justice and the American way.  I was reading that the Jerry Siegel was inspired by Burroughs' Princess of Mars character John Carter.

I hope this movie is as excellent as it appears to be.  The last one sucked.

I like the new textured suit with the larger emblem.

I think you can get away with the pj's if it's done properly.  In my opinion Superman Returns didn't get it right.  The emblem was too small, the briefs were too small, it was too thin and form fitting, and the belt was fucky.

I don't know about anyone else, but I enjoyed Superman Returns, my favorite movie of all time is Superman the Movie, I loooooove Superman II, I enjoyed elements of Superman III, I even can find value in part of Superman IV.

Despite all that, Man of Steel gives me a raging nerd boner!

Brian Singer should have never been allowed to touch Superman.  His severe homoness was all over it.  When a director is busy running around his house naked with coke all over his face chasing little Thai boys around, it should be a warning that your movie is going to turn out mega gay.

Eastern Euro Chick has a sexy voice.  What is the opening week box office record?  I think this thing will destroy it.  A darker Superman with powerful enemies vs the regular Lex BS is what the franchise needed.   How does he defeat that many Kryptonians?  It just isn't two this time, but a ship load.

BTW, was his blood Red?

Nolan's villains are equal to his heroes. I think Lex will be a secondary character like the Scarecrow in the Batman trilogy. I can see this one ending with a outer space glimpse of a meteor heading to earth.  8)

So tired of Lex, bring on some REAL supes-villains! Doomsday / Darkseid / Parasite etc

Although it's very good to see General Zod portrayed very well by Michael Shannon.

Nolan is taking over everything leading into the Justice League.  Batman may have been saved by Superman before nuke exploded, since Bruce spoke early in the movie about his powerful friend. Some don't believe he was talking about Bats.  Seems Nolan may get Bale signed up for JL, or they play teacher/pupil with Bats and Nightwing.    Nightwing's gadgets are on par with Owlman, so he might make sense to pair with Superman.  I prefer Bale going to the pit and healing and getting better bat armor and gadgets.

It's good they got a new composer for the soundtrack. I hear that they have replaced Jimmy Olsen with his "sister" Jenny Olsen. I'm sure this will piss off some hardcore fans since they have also made Perry White black. I'm not a big fan of the Jimmy Olsen character though, so if Jenny is hot, I'm ok with it.

i'd agree but i like the storyline this time.  grounded kid pulling off small miracles vs cocky football star jumping around corn fields.  lost soul vs corny newspaper reporter.  epic battles destroying a city vs conversions with lex. batman darkness vs rainbow bright.

they get it this time.  superman is about powerful enemies of godly status.

i'd do doomsday and the reign of supermen in parts II and III.  then, introduce darkside in IV if it makes it that far.

if they need genius, then let brainiac replace lex.  as least he is powerful.

here was something i read:  did batman and superman meet in batman begins?  remember they were both wondering, and are in the same universe.  nolan may have set it uup perfectly..  obviously, if batman's face showed up on tv, superman would have used x-ray vision to see, who he was.  nolan may have bale signed for justice league.  did superman save him in part III?  batman had a powerful friend, but no one was suppose to enter the city or the dirty bomb goes off, so superman being the boy scout would stay on the sidelines.

How high would Superman fly? Man of Steel early tracking estimated at $100M for opening weekend!

The general rule of thumb is international box office is approximately 2x the domestic (North America) box office, in total. WB seems to be estimating a $300M domestic total (and possibly even more._ If we stick to this general formula, we're looking at $300M domestic + $600M international = $900M total.

Fingers crossed! We'd love to see this happen and help unfold the future of more DC on the big screen! For everyone championing the 1 billion mark.... there is reason to have HOPE!

http://variety.com/2013/film/news/man-of-steel-early-tracking-suggests-100-million-splash-1200493634/?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed

How high will Superman fly at the box office? According to sources, “Man of Steel” is gearing up for a $100 million debut at the U.S. box office.

Early buzz on the film has been strong and Warner Bros. has been emptying the tank on its marketing campaign for Zack Snyder’s $225 million blockbuster.

As of Thursday, WB executives were projecting a domestic cume north of $300 million for the Legendary Pictures film — possibly more — with positive word of mouth only strengthening its worldwide potential.

Fandango reported Wednesday that “Man of Steel,” opening June 14, is outselling the previous 2013 summer movies at the same time in the sales cycle. The site began offering tickets on May 21.

“Iron Man 3″ remains the highest-grossing film of the summer with nearly $1.2 billion globally and $387 million domestically, so DC Comics’ Man of Steel has a long way to go to compete with the likes of Marvel’s Mr. Stark.

Still, industry observers are suggesting muscular B.O. legs for the reboot.

“It’s very good,” one rival exec admits.

Audiences will have to wait until Monday, June 10, to find out just how good, when the film’s review embargo lifts at 8:00 p.m. PT, the same night as the film’s world premiere in New York.

Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill, “Man of Steel” was produced by Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven and rolls out internationally beginning June 13.

No Superman has been as careless and destructive before!

Pic up a Superman comic book from the late 80s through today LOL.   MOS just brought this kind of destruction off the pages and onto the screen.

Repost:

MOS saw MOS 11 hours ago......loved every second of it!!!!  The vast majority of folks that dislike this film like nothing about Superman and I care nothing about their reviews.   They didn't grow up with the Donner films, they don't read the books, collect the toys, collect the merch, etc......for most this is a summer popcorn movie with splosions and a dude in a Superman costume.  The character means nothing to them.

For me, my first movies in theaters were Star Wars and Superman the Movie.  I loved Superman the Movie and it's been my favorite movie my entire life.  I collected and played with every scrap of Supes stuff I could get my hands on.  Love the comic books....have crates of books in my garage.  I used to draw Superman and write my own Superman stories.  Every Sunday I would take my parents' newspaper, take out the funnypaper/comics, go write to Superman, read it and then cut out the image of Superman and fly it around my house. Dressed up repeatedly as Supes for Halloween.  I owned all the old Superman cartoons and vhs and now dvd.  Faithfully watch Lois and Clark.  Faithfully watch Smallville until they basically took Superman out of the show LOL.  I can quote every line of Superman the Movie, Superman II and Superman III and Superman IV (saw this for my 12th birthday in theaters with friends).  I loved Superman Returns even though everyone else hated it LOL.  I still collect Superman action figures to this day....bought one this morning before I saw MOS LOL.  I love the character of Superman and have my entire life.  In short, I am a fan of Superman; hence my Getbig handle "Man of Steel".  For me MOS was glorious and wonderful....everything I ever wanted to see Supes do on the screen.....just loved this movie.

That said, for those reviewers who are pretty much like, "Eh, MOS was a Superman movie and it was just 'meh' for me.....I don't really like Superman anyways."  Those reviews are my current toilet paper LOL.

I haven't even seen the movie yet but I said the exact same thing to someone the other day. I read a critic review and all the things he didn't like we're simply because he didn't know the story of Superman and therefore is not qualified to review the movie IMO.

Saw it on the weekend.

To say it's amazing is to under-sell the film.

It lives up to everything it's supposed to be, and more.

The story and plot are fantastic. The writing was great. The casting was spot-on.

The special effects are simply magical.

I will be watching this again.

I will say this: General Zod was perfectly cast, written, and explained. He is the perfect anti-hero and towards the end, you actually pull for him a bit. They did a magnificent job. The only question in my mind: who the heck do you get in part two? I loved the casual "Lex Corp" reference on the tanker truck, but I really hope it's not Lex and if so, only as a bit part.

My hopes for part two:

Darkseid
Doomsday (though probably for part III, since Supes can't really defeat Doomsday)
Black Adam (played by the Rock)

The only way I could see Lex is if he fused with Brainiac, but Superman Unbound was junk.  Brainiac isn't a good villain.  I could go for a two part saga with Doomsday and the Reign of Supermen with Lex Corp designing the mech Superman.  Superboy, Steel and the Space Superman won't work.

For years everyone has wanted to see Brainiac against Superman on the big screen.   My question has always been why? Never understood the fascination with Brainiac LOL.  Still, he's one of the few villians that can pack a punch big enough for the MOS.

Magog is one I hadn't considered.....excellent suggestion!!

I've loved any runs in which Superman was pitted against a series of increasingly more challenging foes such as in the Manchester Black series from several years back.

Of course I'd love to see a depiction of the "Death of" saga with Doomsday or an ultimate face-off with Darkseid.  Since they took Superman in a more sci-fi direction (which I loved) it opens the door wide.

Man of Steel/G-Thang and the rest,

I've yet to see the movie, but would like to know whether or not it was as good as any of the Dark Knight movies (which I really liked)?

Does Nolan bring that dark aspect that he infused the Dark Knight movies with into the Superman movie?

I am trying to not read any replies in these threads, as there are way too many spoilers..

Yes he does, as much as is possible.

Remember: Superman is a story of justice prevailing through hope and good.

Batman is a story of justice prevailing through revenge and fear.

So there's really only so far you can push it without distorting what Superman is really all about. But yes...it is by far the darkest and most emotionally charged Superman movie ever. And General Zod is amazing - he's the reason you'll want to watch it again.

I don't like the actor's voice who played Zod. A little too high pitched.  He needed a booming deep voice.  Seemed too much like a boy trapped in a man's body.

Don't read the reviews.  All I will say is, the Story, the Destruction, the Casting (except of Lois Lane ::)) and the Physics (EA Sports ::)) of Superman are 9 out of 10.  It's the Superman I dreamed of as a kid on the silver screen, not Reeves or Return of Wimpman.  They ironed out some issues in the 1st installment. Part II will be better than Batman (Bale) vs the Joker.  It's just Power, Incredible Power!  8)

BTW...like several getbiggers, I'd love to bang Faora while she chokes me out.

I agree with you 100%. Still, a fan can dream about a Black Adam/Supes finale. And introduction of Captain Marvel as a result, which plays into a JL movie trilogy. Where hopefully, someone will do a decent job with Green Lantern.

They had those shots of Lexcorp.  I wasn't sure if it was a teaser leading to Lex as the next villain or an homage that Lex exists but won't be focused on.

Yes, the actress that played Lois was plainer than vanilla ice cream without vanilla in it.  Just horrible and annoying actress.

For this to happen they would need to take Superman down a real dark path, almost get the viewer to the point thinking, FUCK, Sup is done, he can't get out of this situation, the villain is just too much.  It has to mindfuck the audience into some sober realization that Superman is just toast, then somehow without fucking it up have Sup sort of prevail.  This would trump DK II.

It was a good movie, emotional and with good action-scenes.

Best "modern" Superman-movie so far.

One of the best things with the movie was Faora though

Cool armor, almost rivalling Zod, Ursa and Nons outfits in Supes 2.

You saw what happen when they took him away from the yellow sun and/or placed him in alien atmospheric conditions, so the last thing we need as an audience is for some whip powering him down with a green marble.   Let Lex run President and make a cameo, but there's no need for dialog between Superman and him.

Nolan's universe > Marvel's campy universe

Batman and Superman are 2 for 2.

Hahaha, Doomsday will be a kryptonian killer.  They cultivated a planet thousands of years ago, and the saviors created the monster to hunt kryptonians down as revenge.  that's the only way they can explain doomsday making it to earth.

Zod was the only kryptonian to remove his armor.  no problem for superman to recover the large technology like the world machine.  who recovered it, lex or wayne corp?  please let it be wayne, so he can use it to modify his bat suit. that's a perfect setup for him being able to survive darkside pushing him through a wall.  plus no one wants to see the green rocks.

of course the devilish beauty will be pulled from the phantom zone to be by the side of darkside.

Comic-Con 2013: Batman / Superman Film for 2015?
Flash races in 2016, Justice League may land 2017

Some potentially huge breaking news from inside Comic-Con today: according to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. is set to announce that Henry Cavill’s Man Of Steel Superman will be teaming up with Batman in 2015, followed by a stand-alone Flash film in 2016 and the long-gestating Justice League in 2017.

Zack Snyder is set to direct the Supes/Bats team-up, which will be scripted by Man Of Steel collaborator David S. Goyer.

With Cavill back in the super-suit, the big question remains as to who will play Bruce Wayne/Batman, since Christian Bale has ruled out a return.

There are even fewer details thus far on the Flash and Justice League announcements beyond the release years, but with the Warner Bros./Legendary panel happening as we write this, expect more news to hit fairly soon today.

We have one of our best embedded in Comic-Con’s Hall H, so expect Empire’s team to bring you all the details once we have them…
