No Superman has been as careless and destructive before!

Pic up a Superman comic book from the late 80s through today LOL.   MOS just brought this kind of destruction off the pages and onto the screen.

MOS saw MOS 11 hours ago......loved every second of it!!!!  The vast majority of folks that dislike this film like nothing about Superman and I care nothing about their reviews.   They didn't grow up with the Donner films, they don't read the books, collect the toys, collect the merch, etc......for most this is a summer popcorn movie with splosions and a dude in a Superman costume.  The character means nothing to them.

For me, my first movies in theaters were Star Wars and Superman the Movie.  I loved Superman the Movie and it's been my favorite movie my entire life.  I collected and played with every scrap of Supes stuff I could get my hands on.  Love the comic books....have crates of books in my garage.  I used to draw Superman and write my own Superman stories.  Every Sunday I would take my parents' newspaper, take out the funnypaper/comics, go write to Superman, read it and then cut out the image of Superman and fly it around my house. Dressed up repeatedly as Supes for Halloween.  I owned all the old Superman cartoons and vhs and now dvd.  Faithfully watch Lois and Clark.  Faithfully watch Smallville until they basically took Superman out of the show LOL.  I can quote every line of Superman the Movie, Superman II and Superman III and Superman IV (saw this for my 12th birthday in theaters with friends).  I loved Superman Returns even though everyone else hated it LOL.  I still collect Superman action figures to this day....bought one this morning before I saw MOS LOL.  I love the character of Superman and have my entire life.  In short, I am a fan of Superman; hence my Getbig handle "Man of Steel".  For me MOS was glorious and wonderful....everything I ever wanted to see Supes do on the screen.....just loved this movie.

That said, for those reviewers who are pretty much like, "Eh, MOS was a Superman movie and it was just 'meh' for me.....I don't really like Superman anyways."  Those reviews are my current toilet paper LOL.

I haven't even seen the movie yet but I said the exact same thing to someone the other day. I read a critic review and all the things he didn't like we're simply because he didn't know the story of Superman and therefore is not qualified to review the movie IMO.

Saw it on the weekend.

To say it's amazing is to under-sell the film.

It lives up to everything it's supposed to be, and more.

The story and plot are fantastic. The writing was great. The casting was spot-on.

The special effects are simply magical.

I will be watching this again.

I will say this: General Zod was perfectly cast, written, and explained. He is the perfect anti-hero and towards the end, you actually pull for him a bit. They did a magnificent job. The only question in my mind: who the heck do you get in part two? I loved the casual "Lex Corp" reference on the tanker truck, but I really hope it's not Lex and if so, only as a bit part.

My hopes for part two:

Darkseid
Doomsday (though probably for part III, since Supes can't really defeat Doomsday)
Black Adam (played by the Rock)

The only way I could see Lex is if he fused with Brainiac, but Superman Unbound was junk.  Brainiac isn't a good villain.  I could go for a two part saga with Doomsday and the Reign of Supermen with Lex Corp designing the mech Superman.  Superboy, Steel and the Space Superman won't work.

I like that idea of Magog (not sure if many people know who he is) or doomsday or even the Android superman who is half superman and half android

For years everyone has wanted to see Brainiac against Superman on the big screen.   My question has always been why? Never understood the fascination with Brainiac LOL.  Still, he's one of the few villians that can pack a punch big enough for the MOS.

Magog is one I hadn't considered.....excellent suggestion!!

I've loved any runs in which Superman was pitted against a series of increasingly more challenging foes such as in the Manchester Black series from several years back.

Of course I'd love to see a depiction of the "Death of" saga with Doomsday or an ultimate face-off with Darkseid.  Since they took Superman in a more sci-fi direction (which I loved) it opens the door wide.

Man of Steel/G-Thang and the rest,

I've yet to see the movie, but would like to know whether or not it was as good as any of the Dark Knight movies (which I really liked)?

Does Nolan bring that dark aspect that he infused the Dark Knight movies with into the Superman movie?

I am trying to not read any replies in these threads, as there are way too many spoilers..

Yes he does, as much as is possible.

Remember: Superman is a story of justice prevailing through hope and good.

Batman is a story of justice prevailing through revenge and fear.

So there's really only so far you can push it without distorting what Superman is really all about. But yes...it is by far the darkest and most emotionally charged Superman movie ever. And General Zod is amazing - he's the reason you'll want to watch it again.

I don't like the actor's voice who played Zod. A little too high pitched.  He needed a booming deep voice.  Seemed too much like a boy trapped in a man's body.

Don't read the reviews.  All I will say is, the Story, the Destruction, the Casting (except of Lois Lane ::)) and the Physics (EA Sports ::)) of Superman are 9 out of 10.  It's the Superman I dreamed of as a kid on the silver screen, not Reeves or Return of Wimpman.  They ironed out some issues in the 1st installment. Part II will be better than Batman (Bale) vs the Joker.  It's just Power, Incredible Power!  8)

BTW...like several getbiggers, I'd love to bang Faora while she chokes me out.

Faora>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Lane ::)

I got my first taste solo.  Now, I get to take a broad  ::) this weekend for my second viewing, or maybe I just enjoy another viewing with myself.  8)

I don't see Black Adam ever.  They will stay away from magical beings.  Also, kryptonite and Lex have no place in this Superman Trilogy.

I agree with you 100%. Still, a fan can dream about a Black Adam/Supes finale. And introduction of Captain Marvel as a result, which plays into a JL movie trilogy. Where hopefully, someone will do a decent job with Green Lantern.

They had those shots of Lexcorp.  I wasn't sure if it was a teaser leading to Lex as the next villain or an homage that Lex exists but won't be focused on.

Yes, the actress that played Lois was plainer than vanilla ice cream without vanilla in it.  Just horrible and annoying actress.

For this to happen they would need to take Superman down a real dark path, almost get the viewer to the point thinking, FUCK, Sup is done, he can't get out of this situation, the villain is just too much.  It has to mindfuck the audience into some sober realization that Superman is just toast, then somehow without fucking it up have Sup sort of prevail.  This would trump DK II.

It was a good movie, emotional and with good action-scenes.

Best "modern" Superman-movie so far.

One of the best things with the movie was Faora though

Cool armor, almost rivalling Zod, Ursa and Nons outfits in Supes 2.

You saw what happen when they took him away from the yellow sun and/or placed him in alien atmospheric conditions, so the last thing we need as an audience is for some whip powering him down with a green marble.   Let Lex run President and make a cameo, but there's no need for dialog between Superman and him.

Nolan's universe > Marvel's campy universe

Batman and Superman are 2 for 2.
