You need one to complete your team. Both in their prime. Who do you pick?
-
L.T.
dude this isn't even a question.
-
LT of course.
-

Are you kidding?
LT all day
-
LT is the greatest defensive player.
-
LT was best linebacker ever, loved the game he played with one arm dislocated. Urlacher got shoved out of the hole as much as he shot the hole to drop the back in the backfield. The 2 best at shooting the hole I'd say Seau 1 no question and ray Lewis could still do it late in his career
-
LT. They're different positions though. A better comparison would be Urlacher or Ray Lewis. In which I'd pick Ray Lewis.
LT's best comparison would be Derrick Thomas.

LT IS A HALL OF FAMER.....BUT URLACHER ISN'T EXACTLY CHOPPED LIVER.

Are you crazy or just a Bears fan?

LT was one of the NFL's most dominant players. LT all day.
-
Yes LT changed the game. Urlacher was a very good player but he will not be remembered in the history of the game like LT.
-
you should be slapped for such a question
LT was on another level
-
Hhhmmm, lots of undecided GB'rs in this thread ;D

There is many truths in this post.

Butkus is such a stud....met him in Vegas last summer......he was signing autographs and taking pictures with fans at Caesars Palace.
Very nice dude.......one hell of a linebacker!!!!
-
I'm a fan of Urlacher... but I'd have to go with LT.
-

Liked the underaged ladies, too.
-
LT was the man beating the piss out of people weekly.

chuck b last real 60 minute man, center/ linebacker still alive.
-
yes.......bednarik was one tough sob!!!
i'd go to war with that guy!!
-
Urlacher isn't even the Bear's best ever middle LB.
Butkus was better. So too was Mike Singletary. Both exceed Urlacher.
And then there are better middle linebackers in history too (including Butkus and Singletary).
Lambert
Ray Lewis
Nitschke
Sam Huff
Seau
Willie Lanier
But Urlacher is certainly one of the top 20 middle linebackers of all time.
-
ray lewis or mike singletary.
overall i'd say ray lewis. in his prime there was no player feared in the NFL more than ray lewis. in fact i'd go as far to say not just the most skilled ILB of all time, but most feared of all time by his rivals. thats a bad combination for anyone lining up and the O side of the line.

Ray Lewis' sideline to sideline speed in his prime was unbelievable. He could win any one on one matchup with any running back. Combine that with an incredible football IQ and work ethic, along with being a natural leader....and you have the best to ever play the middle linebacker position.

Murder Ray is definatley number 1 on the list.
Then Dick and then Chuck

Everything you just said.
-
Didn't Urlacher date the tree hugging, picketing Jenny McCarthy...That alone tells me that Urlacher drinks wine coolers and puts the pussy on a pedestal...While LT gets coked up and takes the pussy...LT all the way baby!!!
-
Tough one.
I think that the game evolves all the time. Not neccesarily for the better but faster at least.
Taylor of the '80s would still be good today, but not clearly above others physically like he used to be.
Passing game is more and more of quick, max 3 step drops, it would affect LT as well. Maybe offences
could play around him more than they did back then?
LT was better rusher for sure but Urlacher was more complete linebacker.
-
I always liked Tippett. I would take LT, Tippett, Ray Lewis and Butkus and play a 3-4. That would be fun to go against.
-
Von Miller is up there to me too, but you can't compare all these guys over different eras in any correct sort of way. Von is just getting started too. There have been tons of good LB's. A guy like Carl Banks who helped LT a ton was great. The Saints have had a few good ones like Jackson and Swilling, Sam Mills. It is just tough to rank players.
-
Jets had some good backers. Mo lewis, Vilma..who is still a pro bowler with the saints. Jets always seem to let their best defensive players go.

I think you got it backwards...LT helped Carl Banks...LT was already rookie defensive player of the year and a pro bowler.
-
you just went full retard with that question boy ! LT all the way and a Stellers fan
-
Seau was an outside linbacker
He may have played some OLB in some packages, but he's far better known as an outstanding ILB and his performance at that position is what will land him in the HOF.

I'd rank the following as the most feared defensive players of all-time, at their prime, when they played (in no particular order):
Butkus
Dick Nighttrain Lane
Ronnie Lott
Ray Lewis
Joe Greene
Willie Brown
LT
Reggie White and that crazy head slap
Deion Sanders (not because he could hit you, but because he was a ball hawk)
Ed Reed (same as with Sanders - total ball hawk who embarassed quarterbacks and offensive coordinators for a decade)
And Anthony Munoz. No one ever shows love to the hogs. So even though an OL, he makes my list because no one was ever greater.

No.....LT was head and shoulders above Urlacher in any era, and I'm a Bears fan. LT had to be accounted for and double teamed on EVERY play.
Ask Joe Thiesman what happens when you have a back coming out of the backfield cover LT.
-
wait a minute......if you are talking about a player that struck fear in the hearts of many......we have to include the late great Jack Tatum!!
