getting rid of the Robocop boot in a few days but still maybe a month or less of crutches
Today was first day back at the gym and eating healthy. Planning on getting back to this in 4 weeks.. (my clean version)

Holy shit. I snapped my achilles tendon 6 weeks ago, had the surgery 5 weeks ago and have been in the gym 6x/week since then. My legs look like complete shit (moreso than usual). Nobody told me that I had to stay in bed! I was cleared for anything "non weight bearing", so I took that to mean bench, dips, anything seated, pull-ups, etc).
I just got out of the cast this morning and my calf is something to weep at. Holy shit, my muscle-building genetics are shit, but I am world-class in atrophy. I am in a boot now and I am cleared to walk (in the boot) and start PT on Monday.
Why was your recovery so conservative?

Because I still plan on being athleyic so I took the time to heal properly...I had a new non.invasive procedure done with a kit (kevlar lines and an insertion)...I want to walk after 3 months like a normal.person....I snapped it completely shredded

I tore the tendon in my knee and all the muscles around my knee 3 years ago. It's been a long road of recovery and my left leg will never be the same again, but thanks to God and a wonderful staff of doctors, nurses and therapists that I'm back in the gym and gettin strong again.
You'll be back in no time!!

Wish I could say it was massive squats, cage fighting, SEAL tour in Afghanistan, etc....but the truth is I fell down the stairs at home and on the last step fell in just such a way that my left knee landed with full force (and full weight) on the edge of the last stair and my knee basically exploded.
It was a bad day LOL.

Lazy bastard. In Finland they just fix the tendon, cast a plaster in your feet and there you go. Two days in hospital, and you walk a way with a pair of crutches. My friend broke the tendon in his knee and both bones in his lower leg, and he was walking with crutches next day with a glassfiber cast around his leg. He was driving a car within four weeks and back to work in two month. Where exactly they make you lie down two and the half month because achilles rupture? In a fairytale land?

Lol yes Sev, I've heard that Gaypro from GetBig is demanding semen samples straight from the tap to check your your inflammation levels and assess your recovery time. Not sure about these unorthodox practices but he's an orthopedic specialist so I would trust him.

You really live in Romania? That explains it all, because we have thousands romanian citizens as a beggar here in Finland, sitting on the street with the plastic cup for the coins. What comes to your top surgeons, I wouldnt let them squeeze a pimple from the dogs ass, let alone operate the people, so let refrace little bit: In civilized world achilles tendon ruptures etc. heals fast, because they are treated by real doctors with knowledge of which is up to date. In some ex soviet crap holes it doesn't work that way, because their skills are from the time when Lenin was a leader of USSR. Sorry about the misunderstanding ;D

I am curious about the procedure that you received as it was not even offered to me in my (supposedly) high-tech health care area of Greater Boston. I got a standard reattachment.

crutches ARE necessary .. the boot is higher than a normal shoe sole so it fucks up the spine by tilting you sideways.. also in a moon booth you cannot roll your foot like during a regular step

Hmmmm...my surgeon and the PT is telling me to ditch the crutches, but walk on the moon boot for 2 weeks. I think that my hips and low back ready a mess from crutches and standing on one leg.
I didn't have the option of staying at home from work. I would have been put on disability.

Hmmmm...my surgeon and the PT is telling me to ditch the crutches, but walk on the moon boot for 2 weeks. I think that my hips and low back ready a mess from crutches and standing on one leg.
I didn't have the option of staying at home from work. I would have been put on disability.
moon boot is worse than that for the lower back .. think about it.. I have badly herniated disks so I feel those differences.
I offer you my oppinion but listen to those guys. Let me ask you something, what do YOU feel you should do?

I am shit scared of re injuring it. I will try the boot and see how it feels. Thanks for the info. Interesting that you guys are so on the cutting edge surgically.

Romania has top surgeons (the equipment and facilities are a problem but the talent is there)
The guy that operated on me used a new procedure using a minimal insasive technique with two kevlar chords and a small clip .. 6 weeks and off to rehab recover .. I do the rest and he trusts me because I have a better ideea about what to do than a PT.

Well, your procedure is CERTAINLY more cutting edge than anything that I was exposed to here. And I even looked into Mass General's ortho practice in Boston, but they just do the standard stuff, so I had mine done in southern NH.
Not that I am PLANNING to do this again, but I would love to hear how your recovery is progressing and how successful this technique is

Running 40 yard sprints at "60%" effort as a conditioning drill. I put the 60% in quotes because I was feeling good and probably pushed it to 80%.
I also CLEARLY fucked up by running on hardpan, right next to a grass field. I had sprained my ankle running in grass so many times, it never even crossed my mind to go in the grass. I would trade 10 sprained ankles for this shit.

I am curious about the procedure that you received as it was not even offered to me in my (supposedly) high-tech health care area of Greater Boston. I got a standard reattachment.
Well, there seem to be little debate between the real world and romania, aka 2 and ½ months in bed vs quite a bit faster rehab in western countries. What I mean is while author of this thread was in bed, in finland they operate and send home a great bunch of these acilles patient, and they all leave walking with crutches. For example, if I got the rupture right now, I would be walking out from the hospital at monday, and I could be dropping coins in the cup of romanian beggar not in 2 and the half months, but two and the half days. I think there is significant difference between these two ways to heal this common injury.. ;D
