Best tattoos on a competitor... I'd say Marcus Haley    He's got Purebred (right4arm) Silverback (left4arm). In big ass letters  straight down the front of his forearms.

Many years ago, if someone had a tatoo, they were considered a non-conformist..someone possibly trying to express their individuality..or in the case of women back then, they were probably biker chicks, strippers, or porn stars. Nowadays, every guy I see in the gym has some kind of tattoo on their arm or some tribal shit. It seems it's almost become mandatory. If you don't have one, you're not cool. In fact, now you're a non-conformist if you don't have one. I'm glad I've never felt pressured to adapt to ridiculous social trends and be of the mindset of "Well, I have to get this..everybody else has one!"

bullshit logic. if anything, the mainstream adaptation of tattoos has been a good thing. like you said, it used to be that if you got a tattoo your motivation was largely rebellion, so you'd go to some shitty shop with a guy that probably smoked while he did it and wasn't very sanitary so you could get some random skull or a symbol just to make yourself feel tough.

now that tattoos are more acceptable, people are free to get them simply for the personal satisfaction of having them, and more people are getting them simply because THEY like them, not for the stupid "oh i'm such a badass" feel. i got my tattoos for ME, and frankly the nice thing about them is that if i wear a loose t-shirt they're hidden.

and no, amazingly, no one looks at people without tattoos and thinks they're non-conformist, because the "conformity" aspect has been ripped away from tattoos. if you have them or if you don't, the overall acceptance of them now means that there is no conformity TO them. if you have them, it means you want 'em. if not, it means you don't.

the only time people WITH tattoos get on the offensive is when some asshole like you tries to use his lack of ink as a badge of pride. news flash: i don't care if you don't want tattoos. it's your choice, just like anything else. my tattoos are MY choice. i respect your decisions, PLEASE respect mine.

First of all, I wasn't grouping everyone that has a Tattoo into the same category. I happen to think some of them are pretty cool, especially if there's some deep personal meaning behind them. The point I was making is that from personal observation and actually talking to these guys I see at the gym, with the dime a dozen tribal tats..I feel a lot of them are doing it because it's The In-thing..just like the body-piercing with the spikes in the lips, eyebrow, etc. When a new fad comes along..the first few that do it will be the individuals..then will come the multitude of followers.

funny thing is, most people really "into" tattoos and body mods can't stand the "tribal armband" crowd. my artist refuses to do them. if some 18 year old kid comes in and asks for a barbed wire armband, he'll either give them a ridiculous price or refuse outright.

A bigger business these days than tattooing is tattoo removal.

Large, muscle and definition-obscuring tats on bb's who compete only detract and can lead to lower placings if the comp is very close.

I warned one of my college-aged patients not to get the neck/face tattoo. Told him he'd never get a good job.

"I will never work for the man..." was his reply. "But they'd have to hire me...I have rights..."

"No," I told him.

"If you got such a tat AFTER becoming employed...they may have a harder time canning you.

"If you went to an interview with a gaudy tat on your neck and/or face...they would not likely hire you...and give you any old excuse as to why they would not.

Why limit your options with such stupidity?

If you are talking about me then yes...especially on women, I feel tattooing is morally corrupt. That's my OPINION.

probably quizzes them and if he finds out they lied, he fires them. ::)

and the funny thing is, people act like that and then say it's the people with the tattoos that have issues.

I get so damn annoyed that people react aversely to mine. then the people say "well that's why you got them, right? to get a reaction?" no, dipshit, i got them because i like how they look. frankly i'd prefer if no one hassled me over them. i ain't a rebel, i love tattoos at an art form. you don't? fine.

see that's my favorite stuff. that's why mine is elbows up and on my chest (and soon on my back). in a loose t-shirt you can't see that i have a thing. and, heck, a lot of the time i wear sleeves, and generally dress like a normal guy. i don't advertise my ink or anything like that, so there's an odd sense of satisfaction in walking around knowing that i've got all the ink i do, but no one ELSE does. weird, i know.  :P

Hahahaha.  I was taking a new prospect out for drinks after we closed the deal. He had a few and then noticed that the hot bartender had been gawking at had a small (hardly visible) tatt behind her ear.  He then proceeded to started talking $hit about tatt's and how trashy the people who get them are.  I let it slide for about 5 minutes then rolled up the lower sleeve's and when I put my forearms on the back up on the bar he couldn't form a sentence.  It was funny because I outweigh the guy by about 45-55 lbs and he is now working for me.  ;D

The judgmental attitude in this thread is so hypocritical. Do you realise the exact assumptions are made about people who work out and try to ‘get big’?  If you are on here i (naively?) assume you work out,  does that make you a dumb, attention-seeking, wannabe tough guy? .....a lot of people would think so.

Grow up. You cannot tell anything about someone by the simple fact they are into body art. (however i think you can tell a lot by what tattoos they choose to get)

Only if I can see them and they are distracting to patients. You'd be amazed at what staff can present so patients do not return.

the main problem with people who sport tatoo is that they are moronic attention whores 9 times out of 10 .
And your rethoric doesnt excuse anything, its like "i have the right to be stupid, to look stupid, to rob/kill people" , just because you think you can do seomthing and that nobody cant do shit against it doesnt make you cool or anything.

In fact getting a tatoo to hide insecurity issues only make em more and more apparent, i think thats what he tried to tell you.

Basically a tattoo on a real biker or pornastar is ok,; but a 120 lbs skinny #### who gets one and sport an e-thug attitude or a 15 y/o girl who seek attention and penis are just going to look like fucking weak minded losers.

Problem is, nowadays  most people sporting tattoos are these persons; delusional insecure pathetic weak minded losers.

And the fact that some real bad asses like hells angels members sport tattos like losers like you doesnt make you look like a member of the hells angels, you 're still a loser but now with your tatto its like its written "im a loser " on your forehead.
At least there s no doubt about it and most smart people will simply have to look at you to know they can avoid making contact with you haha.

the problem is that you're conflating moron superman-shoulder-piece and barbed-wire-armband tattooed idiots with people who really love the art of tattooing, similar to putting together the idiots who do 2 hours of curls before hitting the club or try to "tone up before Spring Break" and people who are dedicating to weightlifting/powerlifting/bodybuilding and whatever.

they are two TOTALLY different animals.

my ink covers up NO insecurities. i got them for personal satisfaction and the fact that i can practically get off on the endorphin rush from the tattooing process (no, i'm not kidding).

frankly i -hate- the fact that people think i think i'm a badass because of my ink. i don't even REMOTELY think of myself that way. hell i have cuteoverload.com in my bookmarks because after a long day, a picture of a puppy makes me feel better.

don't project YOUR biases and prejudices on ME.

problem is, there are still 9 out of 10 people sporting tattoos who give you a bad rep and nobody is going to care about you and what you think because of these 9 others people.

Why don't you stop running your mouth for two seconds and re-read what Magoo said.

ok, i can understand that.

problem is, there are still 9 out of 10 people sporting tattoos who give you a bad rep and nobody is going to care about you and what you think because of these 9 others people.

you're right, that is a problem.

but once again, i didn't get them for what OTHER people will think. it annoys the piss out of me, and i'll gladly explain the situation to people who will listen, but at the end of the day it's still a personal decision.

remember this, too: by looking down your nose at people with tattoos, you reinforce the mindset of the morons who get them solely for the rebellious counter-culture image. and keep this in mind, while you're at it: you don't know what's under t-shirts. you might see a guy in a button-down shirt and glasses walking out of his office job and think he's a straight-laced guy, but in reality he's got his whole body covered. it's FAR more common than you think.

Nothing wrong with that. He's just a Body art/modification enthusiast, and if you can't appreciate it, the f..k you, you mindless simpleton.  He has a right to look like something out of a Clive Barker Horror movie, and be labeled a scummy freakish lowlife if he wants to. the main problem with people who sport tatoo is that they are moronic attention whores 9 times out of 10 .

Great post!

Agree and you can pretty much rest assured that this look will guarantee you either life long incarceration and lots of trouble with the cops or an early death.  This guy is going nowhere in life but down.

working out and tattoos are not the same

working out is challenging, fun, and can be mentally and physically rewarding

anybody can get a tattoo, most people don't have the discipline to make progress in the gym so haters are just jealous

E

A typical arm sleeve takes around 30 painful hours in the chair, i would say that takes some discipline. But that irrelevant. I was trying to point out that regardless of your motivation and how much effort you put in, many people judge you for working out the same way guys on here are judging tattoos.

Just because you don’t understand it does not mean it’s uncool

The judgmental attitude in this thread is so hypocritical. Do you realise the exact assumptions are made about people who work out and try to ‘get big’?  If you are on here i (naively?) assume you work out,  does that make you a dumb, attention-seeking, wannabe tough guy? .....a lot of people would think so.

Grow up. You cannot tell anything about someone by the simple fact they are into body art. (however i think you can tell a lot by what tattoos they choose to get)

What was really trying to be impressed upon readers is the irreversibility of tattoos in most cases.

Lifting weights...well, I think most of know what happens when we stop.

No growing up needed here.

are you just trying to get a rise out of people, or are you really stupid enough to conflate someone like me with someone like that?

let me guess, when confronted with someone who says you can smoke pot once in a while without ruining your life, you immediately equate that with someone who does speedballs just to get up in the morning and then a dixie cup full of downers to get to bed at night, yeah?

Many years ago, if someone had a tatoo, they were considered a non-conformist..someone possibly trying to express their individuality..or in the case of women back then, they were probably biker chicks, strippers, or porn stars. Nowadays, every guy I see in the gym has some kind of tattoo on their arm or some tribal shit. It seems it's almost become mandatory. If you don't have one, you're not cool. In fact, now you're a non-conformist if you don't have one. I'm glad I've never felt pressured to adapt to ridiculous social trends and be of the mindset of "Well, I have to get this..everybody else has one!"

true.....tattoes blow dogs balls.....predictable, try-hard, lame and corny.....
