I`m holding up quite well too I might add! ;)

Will devastate social security and welfare even further. Elite will not let this get out!
-
Because the only ones who care forgot about it?
Sorry. I met a guy with oldsheimers. Perfectly fine until he stood up and said he'd like to go home... while in his own house. It's shitty and rough on his son.
Anyway, if you'll excuse me, I gotta go post on Getbig now.

They will just move retirement age up to 100

I've been saying this for the past ten years: it's going to happen, and a lot sooner than many could think. Maybe not with this drug, but with another, or a few... it is pretty obvious to these who are up to date with the current state of regenerative sciences.
The fears of welfare are pretty much overstated, to say the least. Keep in mind that for a bussiness it is a lot more beneficial to have a buyer/user for a loooong time to come, instead of raising up a new one from the start again and again. Keep in mind another thing - the birth rate will decrease even more, logically - there's not muh point to reproduce for a genome when it can sustain it's survival for a long time.
Eventually it will be the medicine science that will save white race from extinction. Like always has been - whites outsmart other races, regardless of numbers.
p.s. - this isn't massive news because stuff like this already became a "naturally understandable" thing, like - well yeah, that's how it should be. The big breaking nes in a whole world will be when they will manage to keep a mice alive and young for an indefinite time and most of you reading this will be able to witess that in your lifetime, have no doubt about it.

I see what you did there.

It's that nice man from New Mexico.

They tested it on roundworm C. I guess that's good news for roundworms.

LOL!
Their celebration party is keeping me awake...

I read nothing about telomeres in that article. Their shortening is one of the main factors to aging.

you cant make money by making people live longer without putting them on permanent medication
health is business. nobody is interested in a one cure all pill that only has to be taken once.
guess why nobody cares about actually HEALING diabetes.
todays medicine is interested in fighting SYMPTOMS, not CAUSES. people are kept sick on purpose: money.

Well said.
People will fall for any bullshit. Why should the average Joe be allowed to live longer if not for his tiny self to serve the "health" machine.

Because it's really old news, metformin has had this aspect of it's mechanism known for a while.
The problem with this, and perhaps the researchers are unaware is that using alzheimers models and glucolytic agents is a slippery slope, alzheimers may be type 3 diabetes, which makes this study really had to generalize. Starvation extends life span longer then metformin in all trials conducted for example.

Abstract
Alzheimer׳s disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia in North America. Growing evidence supports the concept that AD is a metabolic disease mediated by impairments in brain insulin responsiveness, glucose utilization, and energy metabolism, which lead to increased oxidative stress, inflammation, and worsening of insulin resistance. In addition, metabolic derangements directly contribute to the structural, functional, molecular, and biochemical abnormalities that characterize AD, including neuronal loss, synaptic disconnection, tau hyperphosphorylation, and amyloid-beta accumulation. Because the fundamental abnormalities in AD represent effects of brain insulin resistance and deficiency, and the molecular and biochemical consequences overlap with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, we suggest the term "Type 3 diabetes" to account for the underlying abnormalities associated with AD-type neurodegeneration. In light of the rapid increases in sporadic AD prevalence rates and vastly expanded use of nitrites and nitrates in foods and agricultural products over the past 30-40 years, the potential role of nitrosamine exposures as mediators of Type 3 diabetes is discussed.

CRAN extends lifespan but is a pain in the ass and for many people would mean a reduced quality of life.
There's something like 40 million people that take metmorfin, I think if there was any significant longevity effect it would have been noticed by now.

Not necessarily as the drug is only prescribed to people with pathology, one that lessens life span, so if they have normal lifespan versus say insulin therapy, that is evidence. The real question is, will it extend a healthy humans lifespan.

Right, because eating like a normal biped doesn't cure this shit.

Holy shit, what happened, some sort of magnetic thing?

Looks like some kind of cable was on the ground and got sucked up into the spinning brushes of that street sweeper
Either that or magic. I kind of hope it was magic

No they are not, they are in the process of curing type 1 diabetes, it's not something you could have cured without advanced tech like genetic therapies. In type 1, it's autoimmunity, meaning your body attacks the islet B cells of the pancreas, these produce insulin, it would be like asking them to cure castration.
You would need testosterone or a set of new nuts.
Type 2 is person induced, aka the cure exists, it's called being a active human. Type 2 is generally due to insulin resistance (could be iatrogenic, drug induced as in antipsychotics) in which there is insulin, but your fat shitty muscles won't take it up, they resist work like the person resists work. It's a fat lazy person problem.
So now that you know a little more, how would you suggest they cure type 2? by prescribing table push aways? how would they cure type 1? if not
supplying insulin? pancreatic transplant? that won't go very well most often. The antibodies to the beta cells will still be present, they will attack the shits again, so that won't work. There are many other avenues but they are also not going to really work out, gene therapy and stem cells offer the best hope, clone the cells or use pluripotent stem cells (this means they can differentiate into any tissue) which can create new B cells, the underlying auto-immunity would need to be addressed as there are often other systemic issues.

WOO look into the sirtuin system and hormesis. both viable imo.
Metformin may still help also, I would argue that it does, most agents that reduce glycation do extend life as AGE's kill people over time. Would it reduce all cause mortality? no, but glucose related damage, yes.. would I take it for this reason, fuck no, it does have sides, i have seen people shit themselves hardcore on it.

The autism is strong in this thread.

But would you want to live forever? I'll take the gamble on the death.

How does Metformin work and how is it different from insulin?

It's not though, human life span has been increasing, ipso fucking facto you can increase life span. So while taking metformin may not make you live to 120, it may help, there is reason to believe it. Other animals, some marine species don't age, it's very fucking possible and observed all the time.

your right, it will never go up we hit the limit, it did increase but we hit the upper limits now.
we will be cloning our own organs in the future, need a new liver? here is your brand new liver, no immune shit to worry about, it's you.
-

Metformin really only works in type 2, it increases insulin sensitivity, so it helps with the uptake of glucose in the muscles, if your pancreas is done, you need insulin. In type 2 there is often enough insulin, the muscles simply won't acknowledge it, they are resistant. Type 1 insulin is out, so your muscle won't ever get the message in the first place, your body thinks you are staving despite your blood glucose being high.

A first human trial with gene therapies for age reversal has already started actually:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Futurology/comments/3ocsbi/ama_my_name_is_liz_parrish_ceo_of_bioviva_the/
By 2016 they are determined to show first evidence of physical age reversal on a human. May turn out true, may not, but if positive - anyone invested in this company may become a millionaire overnight I guess..
Just merely the fact that this is happening is pretty damn amazing.

It worries me that this is going to be me. This is a fucking longtime to live. Doc already tells me I'm more fit than a 50 year old.

It's only really rich sociopaths who want to live forever. Imagine being part of the 1% and believing in an afterlife knowing the amount of people you steamrolled along the way to get there?

Purpose of life is to.... be alive. But you are right actualy, life in itself is pretty damn sothiopatic activity.
