Whats branches stage weight?
-
looks like Serge next to a Prolapsed asshole
-
Not really surge pecs look much larger than branches
-
But what about all of the advances in protein technology?
-
Actually this picture makes Branch look better, remember he is like 5'4
-
Upper bodies stayed relatively the same with the exception of a prime Ronnie. In terms of upper body, many guys from back in the day can stand toe-to-toe with the guys of today.
The real difference is in the legs. Pros legs today are a lot bigger than pros from back in the day.

If calves are part of the legs, that's not accurate.

how any dipshit with 2 working eyes can honestly say Branch or any other phaggot of modern era looks better than Serge boggles my mind.....
-
LMAO! The title is killing me! :D

I disagree about the upper bodies staying the same. Prior to the early to mid 90's when GH and Insulin use became more common, bodybuilders had pecs that stood out further than their stomachs. This has since reversed, and now it's common for bellies to stick out further than the pecs, to one degree or another.

And is a perfect example why more is not better.
They appear like obese fatso's in off season, Serge has the best 200lb body on a 6 foot man ever.

For the most part, it is. Calf development today trumps calf development from back in the day.
-
I disagree about the upper bodies staying the same. Prior to the early to mid 90's when GH and Insulin use became more common, bodybuilders had chests that stood out further than their stomachs. This has since reversed, and now it's common for bellies to stick out further than the stomachs, to one degree or another.
Well, I meant in terms of sheer size. I am not saying quality. In terms of sheer size, upper bodies today tend to, on average, be bigger with todays pros. Especially back, shoulders and arms. Chest seems to have stayed relatively the same.
Obviously, in terms of quality, guys today are way far behind when compared to guys from the golden era.

I'd say this is true, but from the chest up. The waist is way bigger. It's almost like the guys of the golden era had on football pads. Now they just look silly.
-
For the most part, it is. Calf development today trumps calf development from back in the day.
Synthol, implants, and esiclene don't count genetic-wise and Ronnie Coleman, for example, injected a fake substance into his calves. As a result, they were misshapen when he competed and look even more misshapen today.
There are more bodybuilders today but it's a weaker gene pool as only humans that are willing to take today's unhealthy litany of drugs are competing. The best bodybuilders of the 70s, Schwarzenegger and Oliva, had great real calf development, as did Ken Walller, Danny Padilla, Boyer Coe, Chris Dickerson, Dennis Tinerino and others.
Thighs and calves have a symbiotic relationship aesthetics-wise. Ramy does not have good calves if you consider his legs as a whole. They are much too small for his thighs. Besides, some of what many people mistake for today's better quad development is overwhelmingly better adductor development, the ridiculous overdeveloped chafing inner-thigh muscles, see above Branch Warren photo.
-
Serge is a once in a generation type physique. If that was the standard today and not the freak show I bet you ESPN would be holding the Olympia

LOL at modern calf development being better. You must mean perennial top five calf monsters like Dennis Wolf, Dexter Jackson, and Ronnie Coleman. Heck, even Phil Heath has nothing on the guys from the 70s. Don't make me post pics and embarrass your heroes.

If Branch,s physique is progress, then call me a Luddite. Serge looks 100 times better and has it all: size, symmetry and muscularity. If you took Branch and Serge to the beach (if Serge were still alive), Serge would get the admiring and lustful gazes from men and women. Branch would get:

Serge looks graceful, even. Not grunting or straining, just effortlessly posing (5% homo)

Arms and chest have regressed if anything. Pros today=bigger in all the wrong places but for some reason the simple jonny come lately know it all modern fan boys see this as progression...why ???

Ever time I look at Branch I just wonder what happened to him? He use to be a great bodybuilder with really no holes in his physique. His whole structure changed. I though hgh was to make you skin more supple and smooth.
Just think, all that money to pay for all those hormones and HGH and all that balls to the wall training just to look worse. Branch is not a dumb guy. Can't he see what happened to him?

When I see those pics I see Branch being way bigger, way more muscular, way more vascular, way more shredded and with no gut....everything is exaggerated and pushed to the limit.
One is a freak and one is not. Most prefer Serge because he isn't freaky. Apples and oranges comparison.

Yes. Rotten apples vs fresh oranges though.

LOL, well maybe. Wasn't Nubret in his early 40s at the '75 O?
Branch is early 40s as well or getting close and not aging as gracefully. I use "aging" loosely, but in terms of comp bb'ing.

Pretty wide grip for 405 too... :o

Caused by growth hormone
What really has increased is not only their guts but also their asses are XXXXL compared to the normal glutes of the seventies. Totally absurd

Yes. Everything is as big as possible, with no eye for balance, proportion, etc. I blame power bottom judges.

When comparing bodybuilders from the 70s - 80s to today, the mere notion of discussing calves is like debating the effect of Getbig mod salaries to the US GDP.

Guys upper body's (especially pecs) were FAR better in the past, due to heavy bench pressing.

Serge was one of the best built and most handsome men of all time. Same with Steve Reeves. Symmetrical.
Legs today are grossly oversized as are the guts on these trolls. John said it best, "muscularly obese". Neck, arms and calves should all measure the same or as close to it as possible. The total measurement of both thighs should equal that of the chest. And no matter how big your chest is, common sense (not schmoesense) dictates your stomach (relaxed or not) should not stick out past it. If you can't keep your waist in line, get out of the lineup.
Same with having a fat ass. Sheesh...Who but a total schmoe wants to see a striated pair of glutes? Disgusting. Thongolia is Never-Never Land for schmoes. Schometopia. Put on a pair of posing trunks circa 1970 or so and quit going for the Dicktoria's Secret(ion) look with the spangly dong-thong. When posing, display your physique like a man, not a slut. Instant disqualification for cupping your hand to your ear as your other one urges the penis gallery for more squeals. Same with the Kai-Greene-The-Sybian-Machine air humping S&M bullshit. Pose for Schomes? Whore yourself out? Make G4P crap or even hetero porn?
Disqualified.
And if you're 5' 7" or less you have no business weighing in excess of 185 or so lbs. 5' 11" to 6' 2"? What makes you think you should be 260, 270, 280lbs or more? Bodybuilding is filled with little men (regardless of height) trying to be big. Just big. Manlets.
Anybody can be bigger and bigger isn't always better. Just bigger.
I blame Schmoe Weider for allowing this to happen. It's bodybuildings AIDS, confined to the arena of the anus wherein the size queen rules. Simply disgusting. Drug addicted farm animals in heat.

Richard Baldwin at 65 years old.
Maybe it's just me but when you don't deform your body, literally change your natural structure like Branch did chasing after a size that your body just wasn't meant to be, you can hold on to your physique much longer. In this vid, Richard, if you picture him with a tan, hasn't really changed that much since his competitive years 40 years ago. Even Robbie, though he was a freak in his era, probably didn't put on more than 30 pounds of pure muscle from his natural state training state. Guys today are putting on 60-80 pounds over their natural trained limit.
-

Jeeze, Arnold dwarfing Oliva right there.

was thinking the same. Had a great chest in my opinion.
That wide grip emphasis reminds me of an exercise I did when I first started out, doing full body workouts. I read somewhere that Steve Reeves used to grasp the lip of the weights on an Olympic bar and do a sort of a deadlift (I'm sure this movement would have a proper name). The theory being it stretched the clavicles/widened the shoulders somehow (Ah, blissful ignorance ::))

Steve Reeves was a big fan of Cables too. I have his Book, Building the Classic Physique. A good read and no Bullshit in there. Talks about his power walking and Home Gym training. George Helmer has a web site dedicated to him and you can join it for free. some good stuff in it. George Helmer knew Reeves.

You can say Serge's legs were under developed; is evident in that photo ...but, you put him and Philsulin at a public place...and Serge would look superior just for his upper body dimensions alone ...not to mention he was 6' feet tall , that really helps the cause too .
