Total ruin.

He traded longevity of health, strength and muscle for short-lived competitive glory by using and abusing drugs. Working dramatically past his natural potential. Not a little. A LOT.

If it was worth it to him, great.

Having said this, he should adopt the Rich Piano tactic of NEVER raising arms into a front biceps pose. Each man for different reasons. Rich because his arms are simply bags of oil and look beyond obvious, even to the ignorant, when doing so; Coleman because, well, he has sad biceps and completely invisible triceps.

Better yet, Ron should just wear a normal shirt with sleeves and preserve perhaps a degree of legacy/dignity. No one who wants to meet him/have a photo taken doesn't not know he's broken and deteriorated in the extreme. It's for how he once looked.

Just sad how racked up his body is. Then you see guys like Robby Robinson  who turns 70 this month looking fantastic. Robby always lifted moderate weights from what I heard.  When I stood next to him in his prime he looked about 205-210lbs. at around 5'8". He looked small in his track suit but when he got up on stage was ripped up beyond belief.

In Ronnies case, it has less to do with time, and more about him abusing and destroying his body. There are plenty of 51 year olds who still look good. Of course, age catches us all, but 51 is the new 41. Ronnie just did too much and continues to do too much.

I wonder what it's like to have once looked in the mirror and seen a prime Ronnie Coleman looking back at you, to this?

Does having achieved it at all make it acceptable now? Or is it hard for him to look at? I'm guessing by the FDB that he's ok with it.

Reality is a bitch.  Especially when it makes you one.   It will only get worse for him and perhaps he will find redemption in serving as the prime example of why not to abuse yourself as he did.  While it is difficult to feel sorry for him I am certain even the most hardened heart (e.g., my own) will not escape pitying him as what time he has left counts down.   :'(

Even after the first two back surgeries, the cervical spine surgery and the hip replacements he continued to work out the same way.  He posted a vid working out the night before his last surgery at that shit hole Texas gym.

He had some nerve damage after this last surgery so I hope he's learned.

No, it just goes to prove that when people want to criticise something, they'll ignore the reality of the situation. ::)

The dude has had medical issues for a couple years now.  Would you be at the top of your natural base if you had the shit he had?

My buddy got that one time. He was in rehab and they had him on a bunch of different meds. My friend was a state champion wrestler he got caught up in pain killer addiction. He went to the gym at the rehab facility. He went crazy on the treadmill. Later that day he started pissing black. His organs were all shutting down on him. He was in the icu for awhile and eventually got better he was lucky.

Ronnie's general health profile is extremely compromised. Not that I'm some medical doctor, but it doesn't take one to reasonably determine the man has joint issues, nerve damage and vascular/cardiac problems.

He is a naturally muscular male who was never built to handle mass and massive poundage workloads. His structure is excellent for the criteria for success in competitive bodybuilding, of course.

The irony of all this isn't lost on those who've been around the bodybuilding block.

There's a reason a majority of elite strength athletes with career longevity are naturally thickly-built.

All prescription drugs have nasty (potentially deadly) side effects.  I urge people to stay away from them.

A pretty straight line between stupid ass shit like that 800x2 and his current condition.

I think it was partly down to his form and his genetics than the weight itself. He always done the movements in a jerky manner and I think he also lifted well beyond his capabilities thanks to the copious amounts of hormones he took. Take someone like Mike O'Hearn for instance, he has lifted crazy heavy for decades now and still hasn't showed any signs of slowing down.

Because medical doctors are not dieticians or exercise physiologists. Just because someone has an MD, it doesn't mean they know about every field of study. This is why people go for advanced degrees in nutrition science and exercise physiology. Many MD's have dieticians on staff or will refer a patient to one. I guess the lazy doctors will just give you a pill. When I had high cholesterol (only by 30 points), my doctor said to me, "Eat a low calorie diet." That is it. No recommendations on exactly how to do that, i.e., which foods to eat, how much, etc. I mean, good thing I already know something about exercise and eating, so I got it. But most peple dont.

Oh I see - obvious when you think about I suppose.  So it's the attempt to stay 'healthy' that leads to this appearance - ironic.  I suppose once you drop the AAS these effects become apparent.  So we might start seeing more people medicate to survive CV problems, only to send up a little 'shrivelled'...  :P

We know that many pros must be training with severe pain. Ronnie more so than most. The idiocy is to keep training while your body is telling you to stop. Those spinal injuries did not come overnight, neither did his hip-problems.

Yes. There are ways to work around pain, to heal, but no... moron continues to lift with a horrible form. You'd think a multiple Mr.O knows at least something about lifting properly, but I guess he only knows how to inject anything and everything under the sun.

What you are seeing in Ronnie isn't from the years of bodybuilding drugs and the heavy lifting he did.
It's from having 38 kids to take care of.

From a modern bbing perspective  ;D

I was actually happy to see him win 2 Arnold classics I think, just to piss everyone off

Now that Phil is the O winner I enjoy how most fans are all frustrated and talk about the "golden days" :D

Here is another recent photo, same event:

WOW, his upper torso (spine) is SOOOO compressed (shortened) due to his 2 back surgeries. They must have removed serious vertebrae. Between that and his hip surgery, I'm sure he's quite a bit shorter today. Hogan lost 3" due to his back surgeries and hip replacements. Superstar Billy Graham and Roddy Piper (and others) lost even more height.

Branch looks good for Branch standards there, but look at those horrible arms, chest/midsection, NO lower back, etc. By no means is that "looking good".
