Luis Ortiz
Record: W 31 L 1 KO 26
Weight: 236½lbs.
Deontay Wilder
Record: W 41 L 0 D 1 KO 40
Weight: 219½lbs.
On Saturday, WBC heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder steps into the ring with Luis Ortiz for the second time. The two destructive punchers first met in March 2018 with Wilder scoring a 10th round knockout after some tremendous action. Now, they meet again with another huge rematch for Wilder hanging in the balance.
In their first battle in March 2018, Wilder survived a rough seventh round to stop Ortiz in the 10th. The fight was so close that at the time of the stoppage, Wilder was winning by just one point on all three judges' scorecards (85-84).
At 40 years old, Ortiz likely only has a few chances left in his career to fight for a world championship.
Should Wilder (41-0-1, 40 KOs) manage to get past Ortiz (31-1, 26 KOs) a second time, a planned February bout with Tyson Fury would be next up for the champ. Fury and Wilder battled to a draw last December and both men have spent time busying themselves with other opponents ahead of the big-money rematch.
I must be losing it. I completely forgot that this fight is happening tonight. :-[

LOL!
Wilder's younger brother already got his ass kicked tonight on the undercard.
Bad omen?
Marsellos Wilder Knocked Cold By Dustin Long In 4th Round.
Marsellos Wilder, the unbeaten WBC heavyweight champion’s younger brother, suffered the second and most definitive knockout defeat of his brief career on the Deontay Wilder-Luis Ortiz undercard at MGM Grand Garden Arena.
The younger Wilder was in control of their scheduled six-round cruiserweight contest, until Dustin Long landed a left hand that knocked Wilder out cold in the fourth round.
A loud thud was heard throughout the arena when Wilder hit the canvas. Referee Jay Nady immediately waved an end to the fight 1:51 into the fourth round.

I'm going with Ortiz by KO tonight , fight will be overturned to a no contest due to Ortiz failed drug test

That head bounce :-X
He was knocked out on a previous Wilder card. I don't think it makes a difference to Wilder. Ortiz is getting knocked out.

Ortiz looks dangerous in the locker room. He even brought a snuggie for good measure.

This could very well happen.

-
5-0 Ortiz
-
I agree that Ortiz is ahead.
I don't know what fight Larry Hazzard is watching. ::) ???
-
Luis had every round till that. I guess guys get too confident.
-
One trick pony but maybe the hardest hitter in boxing history
-
HOLY SHIT!
Got to say it.
GREAT RIGHT HAND.
I still think Wilder can be had.
-
Dynamite in the right hand but such limited skills. I wonder what the scores will be. Wilder wasn’t winning much.
-
One trick pony
Agreed.
but maybe the hardest hitter in boxing history
Definitely one of them.

The legs are hilarious. ;D
Dude's never been under a squat rack... that's for sure.
Well, at least we get the fight we want:

Fury won't get up this time. I'd advise him to fight Joshua in Nigeria or the UK for bigger money

Nice angle of the KO.

We're only a few weeks away from Joshua vs. Ruiz 2. 8)

I think that Wilder would destroy Joshua (unless Joshua learns to hug and kiss), so I hope that Ruiz beats Joshua.
I want competition and action. This Wilder-Ortiz bout was lame.
I have my favorites but usually prefer competitive bouts. I was wild about Trinidad, but he was not competitive against Hopkins.

Ruiz has fast hands but doesn't move his feet. Have you noticed that Wilder stays on the outside, probes with his left to find an opening or move the guard for the right and lets the nuke go. WILDER IS GOING TO COMA RUIZ. on the other hand, AJ is quite formidable against HW of equal size. Povetkin, Ruiz, and Takem have shown he has issues with 6'2 and under fighters. AJ will beat Fury and Wilder, will take another defeat down the road vs another short fighter. But like you said, he needs to hug like Vlad vs shorter fighter.

Ruiz isn't good enough to hold on those belts. Joshua steamrolls him.

Did people actually watch the Joshua v Ruiz fight?
Joshua was dominating and the fight and it was nearly done until Ruiz connected in the 3rd.
You can question Joshuas heart, but Ruiz needs to get lucky again otherwise he will be made to look foolish in the ring.

the only luck is ruiz has a tough chin , i dont question joshua he probably suffered several concussions

Beat them way past their prime. Wilder is the man now. Legit fighter.

That's a fair point. That's why I would still have Joshua as a huge favourite going into the rematch.

I would say Fury is the man right. Took Wilders bomb, got up and was unlucky not to win on the cards.
-
Wilder has probably only won about 5 or 6 rounds total in his last 4 fights. His being outboxed is troubling and going to cost him eventually. Has the great eraser, no doubt but someone is going to get him sooner rather than later. His skills are diminishing. I thought after getting lucky in the Fury fight that his corner would get him jabbing better and staying more active. That pawing and short arming jab looked terrible last night. Trt

Ortiz got cocky was having way too much success, but Wilder showed his boxing IQ by holding off with the right until his opponent started to get complacent, props to him as he was losing rounds and getting frustrated. Ortiz was beaten as much by a lapse in his concentration as much as Wilders right hand, but easier said than done to avoid it for 36 minutes. Props to Wilder but Fury should beat him, if he can just avoid the right hand, he's not even that clever with how he sets it up, but it is a hammer and an equaliser.
Im sceptical on Joshua, I don't think he can out point Ruiz over 12 rounds, if he can't get him out of there I think Ruiz will KO him again, bad match up for him as Ruiz can take a shot but can he take Joshuas best shot.
Great to be talking about heavyweights again, slow fight but give me knock out power with sweet science anyday over plain old sweet science.

Ruiz is not fleet of foot, but he’s a good, well-rounded (see what I did there?) boxer, which is absolutely necessary to beat Wilder.
But can he avoid Wilder’s right hand for 12 rounds, probably not. I think he'd have to keep Wilder backing up to have a chance.

I don't know.
I feel like Ruiz crushed Joshua's feelings of being unbeatable. I think he is in his head now.
