Past the age of 30 you need to calorie restrict if you want to be as lean as you were in your 20's. You organs stop growing by about age 25-27 on average so your metabolic demand drops nearly 30%. If you are an aerobic athlete training 6+ hours a week that can be modified a bit because you will be burning a lot of fat during workouts.
Any food that is not artificial or high in refined carbs is "healthy". But if you eat too many "healthy" foods you still get fat.
From your posts it sounds like you over eat, Marty. Eat less if you want to get lean.

I'll agree that severely dropping calories will slow your metabolic rate- that's how our bodies deal with starvation.
I'm talking about running a 10-20% deficit off of your daily BMR. Mine is about 2700 calories and I start losing weight at restricting to 2400 a day. Calorie counting is pretty inexact because you would have to have exact caloric values for everything you eat and also weigh your food. So I go as low as 2200 based on calorie charts and that accounts for the "fudge factor"
At 10-20% calorie restriction fat melts off in weeks and you don't feel like walking death.
BTW 275 and lean is pretty amazing.
