Title: Hey Wes
Post by: Grape Ape on November 18, 2021, 04:52:36 AM
Saw in the tribute thread you have shitty sleep.  Didn't want to disrupt that thread so I started a new one.

I tried this supplement stack recently.  It took about a week to "kick in" but then my sleep was better than it's been in a long time.  I actually looked forward to it.

https://brainflow.co/index.php/2021/08/14/dr-andrew-hubermans-sleep-cocktail/

In summary, it's:

Magnesium Threonate
Theanine
Apigenin

I had no idea what the f those were either when I heard of this.  Anyway, I'd take the supplements, read for 20 min, then out cold until the am unless something woke me up.  If it did, I could fall back asleep ASAP.

Worth a shot.

For awhile, I was just using the combo of Magnesuium Citrate / Zinc / Melatonin, but i've found melatonin helps with falling asleep, but I'd wake up 4 hours later.

Just thought you might be interested.

I just started taking this after watching some of his videos recently. It’s been less than a week, but every night so far I’ve been having vivid dreams like crazy on 200mg L-theanine, 144mg of magnesium l-threonate and 50mg of apigenin. Not sure if it’s a placebo effect, but I usually don’t remember my dreams. He’s also not a fan of melatonin.

Vivid dreams are certainly a side effect.

You took same dosage I did.  He suggests 300mg of Threonate, but that would be 8 pills.

Another thing to try is to not use your computer at night before you go to bed. The light stimulates your brain to keep you awake. Read a book. I know I'm guilty of using the computer before bed. As I age I have a terrible time sleeping too. No wonder old people start their day at 5AM and eat dinner early.

Yes, avoiding blue light and having a routine supposedly helps.

Keep regular hours.  Don't stay up late on weekends or sleep in.

Go to bed when tired but get up at the same time everyday, even weekends.  Use an alarm clock if necessary to get up.  Plan for 8 hours sleep.  If you get up at 6AM, go to bed lights out by 10 PM.

Don't stay up on the computer or watching TV.

Keep the same schedule 7 days a week.  Don't stay up till 2AM and sleep till 10AM on weekends.

I also saw that and didn’t want to be going through a bottle every week

I liked GABA when I tried it a while back. Definitely relaxing and helps with the falling asleep process for me although that’s not my problem

Before, I was taking some magnesium oxide then I realized the absorption rate is something in the single digit percentile. I want to say 4%

.

Ever posted something after taking Ambien and forgot you did so? This stuff is actually dangerous in that respect, it may make you do some crazy/dangerous shit. I scared myself once, I had driven on it, picked up some take out and had no recollection of having done it the next day.
It can be somewhat pleasant as a rec drug, things float in your visual field, anxiety gone as it's like a benzo, especially surfing the net can be fun on it. But you might also send some crazy texts to people.

My friend said if you take 2-3 of them and stay awake, you start to trip a little.

Never tried it.

ZMA works well for me and I take it pretty much every night
I've used this before and it's pretty good
https://biotest.t-nation.com/products/z-12
I noticed that when I took it if I happened to get up in the middle of the night to take a piss that I would fall back to sleep very quickly

I also think CBD can be helpful

Phenibut works amazingly well. But it's also a serious drug that should be treated as you would treat GHB or a benzo. I use it right now but it does cause addiction and potentially serious withdrawals.

But I believe that product/ingredient works well, better than anything else on the legal market. Thought I think phenibut is a gray area product.

Tried that a few times but after a couple of weeks it didn't work anymore.

I've used the Biotest product with phenibut and have never experienced anything like a withdrawal or a hangover
The recommended dose is two caps but I often only took one (though I have used 2 sometime).  Of course everyone is different so others may have a different experience.

WEBMD says that is can result in dependence and withdrawals if taken regularly.

 https://www.webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ingredientmono-1184/phenibut

Biotest's website includes this verbiage

Quote
PhGABA
The main workhorse in Z-12 is PhGABA. The compound is a derivative of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA. When we're stressed, our brains experience an uninterrupted flow of stimulatory neurotransmitters and this causes restlessness, and irritability.

GABA, and compounds related to it like the PhGABA in Biotest's Z-12, inhibit the flow of these stimulatory neurotransmitters, thereby allowing the brain and body to relax. PhGABA not only acts like GABA, but it also causes the release of GABA for a one-two sleep-inducing punch.

There have been a ton of studies on PhGABA and its effects on relaxation.

Furthermore, double-blind studies found the compound to increase intellectual function, improve physical strength, and reduce fatigue in neurotic patients. While it's not commonly known as a performance-enhancing supplement, PhGABA has been shown to improve work capacity in humans, along with increasing the performance of animals on swim tests.

PhGABA is an amazingly safe compound. Unlike many compounds, it seems to have no known negative side effects. In fact, it's even been found to have cardioprotective properties. The plasma half-life of a 250-mg dose of PhGABA is 5.3 hours, and most of the compound is excreted unchanged.

It's originally a Russian drug for many ailments. Though they say it's to be taken for a maximum of 20 days IIRC. About 20 years ago I used it for a few months and when I stopped I literally didn't sleep for 2 weeks with extreme anxiety round the clock. But it's a great drug, very nice for anxiety, sleep etc.

I'm talking regular people taking Ambien for sleep, not to get high, and then doing crazy shit like driving the wrong way on the freeway or raping people and getting off because it was due to the drug  :o :D
My own mother did some strange thing where she poured instant coffee into a cooking pan in the middle of the night.
One friend who sometimes posts here called me up one night and said, bro I'm scared, I don't know where I am, help me get home. I called him up the next day and he had no recollection of having called me. He flushed the Ambien down the toilet.

They stopped prescribing it at hospitals here in Sweden because of these strange reactions. One hell of a drug.

I take zolpidem (Ambien) to sleep. I try to not rely on it, but I'm a horrendous insomniac and it works wonders for me. I've never had any weird experiences with it, thankfully. Only thing I find with it is that I don't have any recollection of becoming drowsy; it's just one minute I'm awake in bed, and then I'm gone. I find I need to sleep less when I take it, too. I'll wake up earlier but more refreshed.

Many get it prescribed for long periods but the guidelines say it's not supposed to be taken for more than 14 days in a row. It's been shown to worsen sleep parameters. One weird thing I've noticed is after I've taken it for a month and then get off I've actually slept subjectively better and longer. I think Ambien can wake you up early due to an acute drug withdrawal effect, it's so quick going in and out. This has been hypothesized by others than myself. Some have to take another dose in the middle of the night.

Me too.  When I took zopiclone for sleep, all it did was make things taste weird and metallic - didn't make me sleepy

Melatonin can work, but for me, I find you have to be ready to shut down as soon as you feel it start to tickle - if you ignore that for even a couple of minutes and it goes away then you've lost your 'in'
