Not necessarily a political issue. I wonder if he suffered from depression? Sort of ties into the discussion Prime and deadz were having about whether money and wealth cause or contribute to happiness. Anyone repeating that "money can't buy you happiness" line has probably never been wealthy, but it is true that money cannot guarantee someone's happiness.
This guy had an ivy league education, amazing business success, had a family, and was worth millions. And he still killed himself. :-\

Was this a suicide or a faked suicide? If you're going to commit suicide, why jump instead of take an overdose? It would be embarrassing to know your guts would be all over the sidewalk along with probably crapped pants, balls hanging out, etc. I think the best way would be to blow yourself up with a massive bomb so there is nothing left for people to gloat over.

I'm thinking carbon monoxide is the best way to go. Painless. No mess. And very effective.

You said, 'Anyone repeating that "money can't buy you happiness" line has probably never been wealthy...' It is quite the opposite, many people who have never experienced wealth believe they could be happy if only they had more money. Over the course of my very long life, I have personally/intimately known a fair number of wealthy folks, some were happy and some not.
Most people are happy some of the time. Almost nobody is happy all of the time.

We agree.

I've had the privilege of interacting with people that range from homeless to incredibly wealthy. It's true that wealthy people can be unhappy, as the story I posted demonstrates (although we don't know if the guy suffered from depression or mental illness). But I was addressing the overstatement about money. Money absolutely affects a person's happiness. Just look at what money problems do to marriages. It can be devastating.
I recall repeating that line about money back when I was a starving student when talking to a "wealthy" friend. He said something I will never forget: money gives you the power of choice.
Another line I've never forgotten (which I've probably posted before) was by Bill Cosby on whether money can buy you happiness. He said: I've been rich and I've been poor, and I'd rather be rich.
We can talk about anecdotes, etc., but there is simply no denying that money can have a direct impact on someone's happiness. Not a guarantee and some people will be miserable regardless, but it's really naïve to embrace that oft-repeated line.

Wealth is security and as your friend stated “power of choice”. Wealth is absolutely greater than poverty.

No doubt.

I agree that money issues can and often do wreck a marriage. My late wife and I definitely had some financial struggles during the first few years of our marriage. For some reason these never had an ill effect on our relationship. Some of our happiest memories were of times when we were nearly broke. This could be because as kids we experienced good times and bad or sad times, but at no time was money or wealth the issue. As an only child, I was materialistically spoiled and emotionally deprived. My wife came from an extremely wealthy family. Her mother suffered a stroke and passed away. This happened when my wife was 15 years old. Without a doubt, those childhood experiences influenced our perspectives as adults.

Why would you be embarrassed when you are dead?
