Desperate? No. Curious? Yes.
No, I have not appraised my own properties. When buying and financing my properties, the lenders have had appraisers who do this at my expense as part of closing costs. In Oregon, the County assessor determines the RMV and the MAV annually. Also, in Oregon the MAV can only be increased by a maximum of 3% each year. RMV and MAV rarely are the same except when the house or building is new. None of my properties are or were new construction.
Obviously, Trump and sons found a way to circumvent the process the lender would normally use to value properties. Exactly how they did this, I do not know. What I do know is that the prosecutor apparently convinced the Judge that fraud was committed since Trump and sons were found guilty of it. This ruling has not been overturned on appeal at this point. However, Trump can still appeal the civil fraud conviction. I believe the penalties have been paused.

No, I have not appraised my own properties. When buying and financing my properties, the lenders have had appraisers who do this at my expense as part of closing costs. In Oregon, the County assessor determines the RMV and the MAV annually. Also, in Oregon the MAV can only be increased by a maximum of 3% each year. RMV and MAV rarely are the same except when the house or building is new. None of my properties are or were new construction.
Obviously, Trump and sons found a way to circumvent the process the lender would normally use to value properties. Exactly how they did this, I do not know. What I do know is that the prosecutor apparently convinced the Judge that fraud was committed since Trump and sons were found guilty of it. This ruling has not been overturned on appeal at this point. However, Trump can still appeal the civil fraud conviction. I believe the penalties have been paused.

The New York Attorney General's office recently filed an appeal about the Appellate Division's decision regarding the penalty to the state's highest court, the Court of Appeals.

Bloomberg has learned that mortgage documents show Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent once claimed two homes as his "primary residence" at the same time in 2007. President Donald Trump is trying to oust Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook for making similar contradictory mortgage pledges. A lawyer for Bessent says there was nothing improper about Bessent's loan applications. Bloomberg's Tyler Kendall reports.
