I want to get fitter as gym cardio dull but so is road running.
So fucking boring.
A marathon runner i know suggested day dreaming, he regular dreams he's a hero in the star wars universe when running and goes on all sorts of adventures.
Sorry but I can't do that.
Any suggestions to liven it up

take up 5 a side football or another sport , you run but its not boring

Cardio sucks.
Up the volume in your weight workouts.

Rather get on a bike and ride on some nature trails. Much easier on the joints and a better quad workout as well.

Your homosexual friend has quite an imagination. Runners speak of "runner's high" so this is probably what he is referencing.
I ran briefly when I was a teen and I just listened to eye of tiger on loop and thought about running through the street like Rocky. Helped me zone out, but never really got that runners high.

Run naked around your neighborhood. Things are sure to motivate you to get your time in.

always liked the heavy bag and basketball as other forms of cardio.

Running hurts my back and knees. I ride a peleton now but the best cardio I ever did was swimming a mile 2-3 times a week. I had a little swim-P3 player with music and just pumped it out and had no joint issues.

It`ll be a long road back for the "kid" but fuck it !

I totally know the feeling.
I too couldn’t get in to that high, running just feels awkward!
But I still try to little of it. Smaller distances with higher effort, or if you have a track or similar then HIIT type running, hill sprints or stair running.
To me these are all almost ” red line ” cardio. But I think its ok since there isn’t much of it and then I do less streneous cardio in the gym watching asses 😊

During Covid when everyone was out clapping for the NHS on their doorsteps I used to run down the street waving to everyone recreating me finishing the London Marathon...

Cycling is good as you can vary the intensity easily, i ran for many years & jumped rope a lot..
Jumping rope is a great warm up & hits my calves well

You can watch a movie while on the treadmill. Running is over rated anyway. Do the stairmaster or rowing machine. Much better than running.

The data support the following conclusions. Although it was more effective for lean body mass gains, RT did not significantly reduce either fat mass or total body mass. AT was more effective than RT for the reduction of fat and body mass in previously sedentary, nondiabetic, overweight or obese adults. While requiring double the time commitment, a program of combined AT and RT did not result in a greater loss of fat mass or body mass over AT. If increasing muscle mass and strength is the goal, a program including RT is required. However, balancing time commitments against health benefits accrued, it appears that AT alone is the optimal mode of exercise for reducing fat mass and total body mass.

both are useless compared to carorie reduction.

I do both HIT and longer duration cardio sessions because I like my heart. Exercise bike mostly to reduce impact on my joints. I despise cardio but it's a necessary evil.

Calorie reduction doesn’t train the cardiovascular system.
