Title: Most dedicated pro
Post by: LurkerNoMore on September 29, 2026, 02:49:40 PM
Which pro sacrificed the most (and lived) for their career?  It's got to be Dorian or Jay.  While both were known to do nothing but eat, sleep, train and repeat while forgoing a social life,  Dorian did it while being broke most of his life until he won his first Mr. O.

Disregarding results I would probably say someone like that Brad Rowe psycho might have voluntarily put himself through the most torture in pursuit of the plastic trophy. He was never very good but it wasn't due to lack of dedication.

Phantom Spunker is the most dedicated pro bodybuilder in the IFBB. Yes, he keeps his contest photos hidden. And he keeps his identity hidden. He simply holds up eloquent hand written notes near his trophies. But it’s only because he’s so humble. He’s won multiple pro shows!

Oh let's not forget that maniac Roman Fritz. Didn't I read on here that he's on his fourth hip replacement? And he was still eating like 120 rice cakes a day in the hospital to get his clean carbs in?? Yikes.

Maybe those who gave away their manhood to finance their career sacrificed the most.

I don't see how Dorian sacrificed much during his career. If he was aways from the LA bodybuilding scene cesspool of depravity that sounds like a good and healthy choice. That came later perhaps.

I remember he seemed to be homo friendly and with porn star friends and a bit flamboyant or metrosexual at least, kind of the opposite of the guy hiding in the dirty dungeon type like Dorian.

I looked up his IG and it seems like he is a Jesus freak now. I might suspect some psychedelic use.

He has a message for Coach. And that nasty and hateful jackass liftrunbang liked this post too LOL

Roman Fritz said he never went under 1000 grams of carbs during his diet, some days up to 1500g!

I liked his YT gear blueprint episodes where he talks about his friend Onram.

I read Dorian's book and he was talking about how basically was sleeping on a paper thin mattress on the floor.  He had a tv but no other furniture in the one room apartment.  I think he said his first paycheck related to BBing was the NY Pro win for $7K.  Prior to that, he didn't earn anything.  The few photo shoots for magazines he did was free just to get his name out there.

Why are you always pointing out who has kids; and who doesn’t have kids?

It’s not normal behavior DAN.

First post I’ve said that  :D

I rather talk about cocks , which I admit , I’m the cock expert on here , many getbiggers like Wes, rambone, and Abe would vouch for this

If you ever want to have coffee and talk cocks we can arrange that

Kids aren’t my thing unlike you

This man gave his all to the fans, and they cast him out.

Seriously, this is hard to figure, it depends on how we define "dedicated".

Mentzer had some success, but he never seemed happy, and it wound up breaking his brain for almost two decades.

Then there's the g4pers.

The guys that died chasing leanness.

Etc......

I can only consider "sacrifice" when they lose their health.
Many guys are not social to begin with, nor have many interests in life, no ambitions. They find a refuge in the bodybuilding lifestyle, and they enjoy that.

Agreed. Cutler is the most selfish. Also seems like he treated his Asian videographer Mits like an indentured servant when filming. Let us also never forget how it seems like he didn’t help his long time near dear friend Dave B. when he was having medical issues.

Most dedicated imo would be Ronnie.

7k for 2nd place at the NOC?

That was his first pro show, he did it again the following year and won, then straight onto the Olympia in 91

I think the shows after the Olympia used to pay 10k tops for the winners back then

I do believe he said the first he won.  He had been training and eating seriously for about 9 years at that time before getting his pro card and his first win.  He said that prior to that he made a small check off Temple Gym but it really did not cover hardly anything.  He had practically no possessions or clothes at home.   He said he lived in a council estate and relied on government unemployment benefits for many years.  He worked manual labor jobs on the side when he could find them and skipped many "luxuries" like nights out, dinner at restaurants, etc.

There are videos where Jay said that he completely walled himself off from everyone around him all the time.  That he had no interest or empathy in other people's lives.  Friends would call him on the phone and say things like they were having a hard time with their spouse or a relative had died and he would just hang up the phone.  He didn't want to hear anything about it.  If it was not weights, food or sleep it didn't matter to him.

His gym videos are actually good.  Pretty basic common sense stuff that people don't want to hear because they are seeking a magic training routine or such.

Might be somewhat exaggerated for a good story haha.

Dorian said said he used GH his whole pro career. That Genotropin was very expensive at the time. I'm close to the UK and Genotropin wasn't easy to get even if you had the money so he had good connects, though my impression is that the UK has always been very good as far as availability of gear.

I'm sure many would have paid for magazine features, I know I would have LOL.

Dorian was pushed hard by Peter McGough, even before turning pro I think, so that I'm sure helped exposure and perhaps placings.

If I remember correctly Dorian met with Joe Weider and Joe asked him about the skinhead tattoo on his forearm and he had it removed. Dorian wasn't a Nazi skin, he was the other kind and there were blacks in his skinhead circle, he wasn't ever a racist type I don't think. He did turn "antisemitic" later, even saying on freakin' Facebook the Holocaust story was BS :D

I remember that about Jay lol..
Arnold being Arnold; claims in Pumping Iron that he skipped his father funeral not to fuck with his prep. Truth is, his dayd died years before that. He corrected that later on. Docu-drama.
Dorian mentioned he used to have nightmares about cheating his diet; dreaming about pork chops and "mash n' bangers"? (not sure, must be a British thing).

So those 3 kinda stand out. But like Jesus, anyone who steps onstage for our visual benefits suffers somehow.  ;D

He won NOC on his second attempt then won the UK Grand prix in 91 after his 2nd at the Olympia, I was at the UK show, Vince Taylors music went off during his terminator routine, gremilins or sabotage not sure

Vince pushed Dorian hard at that show, massive support for Dorian as you would expect

Good call. Iris... 10x Ms O. not mentioned enough

Hidetada Yamagishi is/was a great bodybuilder... but meh... until he started dating Iris. He gained a lot of respect.
No disrespect in-yamashi-tended, but I can only imagine the dick stamina it takes to keep her "happy"... a typical misaligned "pop out" will  cause shaft damage (peyronie's club membership).
Or detication mode: you're munching down there, her phone rings... one spasm and your neck is grass  ;D

Yeah Ronnie strikes me as the most dedicated. And did the ultimate sacrafice. He trained so hard and pounded his body so hard he made himself a cripple.

But, he is seen as the best ever by bodybuilding criteria today so that is worth it to many I guess.

Absolutely MAXX; Ronnie tends to fly under the radar when it comes to dedication bee-cause he never complained and sorta made it look like it's "fun"... just a great attitude on life.

That was a fun one, mostly over gym fees, lol -

.

Iris Kelly claims Milos can't use her gym anymore because he hogs up all the equipment doing giant sets. Milos claims Iris has been lying in wait to fuck him over ever since he caught Iris and Patrick Lynn stealing from him when they used to help Milos run his gym in the early 2000s. He claims Iris makes people uncomfortable, and he doesn't like Iris charging bodybuilders $30 a day to train, then expects people to post on Instagram.

Claims everyone is only friendly with her because of Hide. Claims Jay Cutler will only deal with Hide alone. Iris threw Milos's wife out for being honest with Hide about her.

Claims Iris lies about her age.

Yeah, Ronnie only had sacrifices after his competitive career was over.  Even when he was working at the pizza place and eating pizza three times a day, he wasn't really struggling or isolating himself from everyday life.
