I was watching Pumping Iron then I watched some footage from Louie's comeback and I noticed his upper body just paled in comparison in his comeback compared to him in 1975. His arms looked small for his torso and his torso wasn't that big. Lou looked so much bigger in PI and his Hercules movies than in his comeback even though in his comeback he supposedly weighed 315 vs 275 when he was young. I know he was older but I think there was more to it.

Yes upper body looked small.
-
In comparison.

Ferrigno was concerned about being stereotyped as a monster and deliberately trained to be lighter & more defined instead of retaining the same mass. That and age; it was almost 20 years later. No different from Schwarzenegger and others in later years.

I was being facetious.

No worries, wasn't speaking to anyone in particular. ;)

Max, you look at some of the footage. In his comeback he had practically no v-taper. Hitting front doublebicep his arms were a shadow of what they were. Those pics are from the best you can find from his comeback. The only thing that was bigger than before in his comeback was his gut which years ago looked great and his rumored fake calf muscles. He was a lot heavier but he looked smaller. Bottom line.

His arms look small here. Especially the left one.

Since I don't have the footage from the comeback, I'll have to take your work for it. I though Lou looked better the 2nd time he won the Universe than he did in PI.
-
The concensus at the time was the he looked the best at the Universe.

footage from the comeback

I prefer his old look too.
his modern look: guts growth, inability to do a vacuum, too much mass lost while trying to be extra ripped, his torso seems too big for his arms, proportions are worse.

Calf implants ::)

Calf implants ::)
yeah those calves are definitely fake - they don't even move when he changes his foot position.

At least they weren't synthol ;D

Matt C thank for the clip.
bmacsys... after seeing the clip I have to agree with you. He was never a threat to any front-runner.

I don't think they'd let someone with calf implants win anything. ::)

did that photo cost you 20 for the autograph?
-
Were gonna get Ron sued for 20 bucks with all these photos of lou. :P
-
Wow those are horrible. And I'M accused of calf implants! But seriously guys. Mine are 17.5 natural :)
-
lou was much better in his comeback than in 75. no question about it.
the illusions of BB strike again!

hahaha...I was gona ask that too!! :D

Obviously a guy in his forties has a low probability of looking better overall than when he was in his twenties.
-
I always thought Lou always had a sick-ass chest!
Pecs always look bigger and fuller than Arnolds did, arnold just had a smaller scawnier bone structure and was exceptional at puffing out his ribcage to make his upper pecs look big. Lous were collasal while he was just chillin.

Max, I wasn't trying to be critical of Louie at all. He is my favorite bodybuilder of all time. I was just trying to figure out why he looked so much different in his comeback than he did in the 1973-1975 time frame.

True, especially after a long layoff. Thing is not only didn't he look as good is that his physique had a totally different look to it.
-
At the same era, boyer coe did a comeback too, and was looking better than ever.

Lou's pecs did look ridiculous in that 1993 video :o

Seems like the huge pecs you could hide under if it was raining are pretty rare. Arnold and Lou were about the only ones who had pecs like that. Katz had a huge chest but didn't have the pecs. He was all ribcage.
