Sport = Skill
Bodybuilding = No skill
Hope this helps!!

I saw a Dominoes tournament on ESPN. can you believe that shit???
Who wants to watch that?

I like how you make up your own definitions of words. That's really convenient.

Try sucking in a vacuum for 30 seconds or holding poses at full force for 15 seconds.. or walking to burn fat or weightlifting to build muscle. You will find that Skill has a lot to do with bodybuilding.

The Spelling Bee and a freaking Hot Dog eating contest was on ESPN.....bodybuilding... well, you know :-\!!

Well thats a good start.. how many normal people can do that? Alex what is a skill for 400$?

Where do I find the Mr. Intenseone Dictionary at? This 'webster's' thing is all wrong!
-
Please explain why you think it is not a sport.
What physical skill does Ronnie Coleman have that I don't?? Sport, whether it be cycling, strongman, or golf take a certain skill or skills to win. If posing is a skill, then super models are athletes. Matter of fact, pro bbers are nothing but chemically enhanced models.
-
The act of lifting weights is a sport No one is saying that flexing your muscles is a sport, although even that can meet the definition of "sport" but few would argue that.
-

What skill does the greatest bodybuilder have? How about making his muscles explode? or influencing many people to start training to build a repectable physique? or how about benching 500 pounds for 5 reps? Can you squat 800 pounds?
-

I'll give a buck to shut you're pie hole......both of them!!

Why would you need to hold it at full force??? Muscles can only hold so much blood. moving the muscle will increase bloodflow far better than a static hold.
-
Ronnie can flex a 23 inch bicep..... not many other people can do that....
-

good post
-
Weight lifting is a sport. Which is part of bodybuilding.
-
Why would you need to hold it at full force??? Muscles can only hold so much blood. moving the muscle will increase bloodflow far better than a static hold.
You want to make your muscles bulge and as full as possible so that is a good way to make that happen with added striations on top of that.
-

I don't ever remember seeing an 800lb barbell on the Olympia stage.

Your getting more stupid by the post!!

Sausage eating competitions are a sport. We as bodybuilders look and modify our nutritional plans and strategies to better our physiques and see changes day to day.

Do you battle against other olympians for the title biggest title in our sport? If this wasn't a sport than all of the little nerds would be dominating this game? But we all know little nerds are good at chest! The act of physically changing oneself is a sport in my book!

You may be laughing at Ronnie but do you know what kind of sacrafices he's had to make to be where he is today? You think he would choose something different if he could do it all over again? I don't think so! His workout intensity and drive to succeed is one of a kind and it shows.

How is building a physique a physical skill??
-
Bodybuilding is a skill:
Main Entry: 2skill

Etymology: Middle English skil, from Old Norse, distinction, knowledge; probably akin to Old English scylian to separate, sciell shell -- more at SHELL
1 obsolete : CAUSE, REASON
2 a : the ability to use one's knowledge effectively and readily in execution or performance b : dexterity or coordination especially in the execution of learned physical tasks
3 : a learned power of doing something competently : a developed aptitude or ability <language skills>
synonym see ART

Are you seriously comparing yourself to the greatest bodybuilder in the world right now? If you and Ronnie where natural, trained, ate and trained together, who would be making the greatest progress?
Alright I gtg will continue this tomorrow!

If bodybuilding were even close to being a sport, and bodybuilders were actually close to being athletes, then we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

Intenseone, now that we have proven bodybuilding is both skill and sport, are you going to apologise? Will you continue to live in a state of denial? You are like the flat earth people ;D
WTF have you proven? Like I said along time ago, you get them on a high school, college or NFL combine and they would'nt last the first round and that would go for ANY physical SPORT that requires a tryout!!

In this case....yes!
-
So, basically you believe you are smarter than the dictionary?
We all know Mr.Intenseone has proven his intelligence on this board on several occations ;D
-
Bodybuilding is a pageant show as far as I am concerned, or the judges themselves. They could care less how you attain the physique you do, you could be mowin lawns
like ronnie does for all the Judges care, and be growin like weed like Kamali in the offseason and show up on stage. As far as athleticism goes, the picture that Intenseone pretty much shows how "athletic" these "athletes" are.
If bodybuilding is a sport, then why aren't modeling, spelling B's, Dominoes, etc considered sports? All are forms of entertainment, and require certain skills.
-

Maybe that's why they broadcast the spelling B on ESPN SPORTS!

And just like your politics you choose to believe it!!

From wikipedia
As a sport, called competitive bodybuilding, bodybuilders display their physiques to a panel of judges, who assign points based on their aesthetic appearance.

What do bbers train?? To train implies to teach. Inducing hypertrophy and burning fat aren't "training", only a response. An athlete trains their body to do a skill better than it could before, be it faster, farther, or more acurate.

Not a bad post, training has very little to do with bb'ing compared to how much it would matter in a real sport like olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, soccer, basketball, etc. So to argue that "training" is the tie between bb'ing and athletics (sports) is jsut plain wrong.
-
Sport is human excellence in physical activity. Bodybuilding is the cultivation appearance of being able to excel in physical activity; it is not sport.

If training has very little to do with bodybuilding, I would love to see an example of someone in the IFBB who won a contest and trained very little.

genius.

Paul Dillet would be a good exmaple of a lazy trainer who exceled in bodybuilding. But if u go back to the original post, I was only comparing how important training is in bb'ing as compared to a real sport. The majority of the equation consists of Drugs, nutrition, and some goold old genetics 8)
-

Flex Wheeler, Paul Dillet, Dexter Jackson, King Kamali (oh wait..you said won, right?) just to name a few....and anyone else who thinks that doing 6 sets per bodypart is actual training!
-

I don't read 'muscle magazines'. Secondly you suck at bodybuilding without steroids so what do you know??

Slow down there, we already proved it's both a sport AND a skill. Admit that before you change the subject.
-
Bodybuilders are set compulsary tasks by the judges of which they must perform to and upon doing these they are awarded points and thus given a placing..... compare to springboard diving.... same principles......
-
Paul Dillet would be a good exmaple of a lazy trainer who exceled in bodybuilding. But if u go back to the original post, I was only comparing how important training is in bb'ing as compared to a real sport. The majority of the equation consists of Drugs, nutrition, and some goold old genetics 8)
Drugs, nutrition and some good old genetics are the majority of the equation in creating a world class Olympic sprinter as well, and as far as skill goes, there are billions of people in the world that can sprint just not as fast.
-
Slow down there, we already proved it's both a sport AND a skill. Admit that before you change the subject.
Athlete.....Skill, speed, balance, agility, conditioning!
-
Athlete.....Skill, speed, balance, agility, conditioning!
As usual, there's the Intenseone definition, and then there's the Dictionary.
The definition you choose to use is up to you.
"athlete
One entry found for athlete.
Main Entry: ath·lete
Pronunciation: 'ath-"lEt, ÷'a-th&-"lEt
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Latin athleta, from Greek athlEtEs, from athlein to contend for a prize, from athlon prize, contest
: a person who is trained or skilled in exercises, sports, or games requiring physical strength, agility, or stamina "

No...it's not true because it isn't an f'ing sport.......damn, what does it take to get through to you people??
And that was decided by....a middle aged man obssesed with it with no sucsess? Hmm....

You know who Kevin Levrone is right?
-
Drugs, nutrition and some good old genetics are the majority of the equation in creating a world class Olympic sprinter as well, and as far as skill goes, there are billions of people in the world that can sprint just not as fast.
Not really, however, if u were to show me an example of a lazy sprinter who made it big, then I would see some merit to your argument. As far as I know, the Olympics are thourhgly drug-tested, so again throw drugs out of the equation.
But still the argument remains that bodybuilders dont train to be athletes, whether or not training is a big part of the equation is still irrelevant(no Im not conceding to your argument, just making a point). They train to look better, just like a model would. There is no athleticism involved.
-
As usual, there's the Intenseone definition, and then there's the Dictionary.

Were talking competitive, There isn't ONE pro level bodybuilder that can compete with even a high school level sprinter!
And there isn't one high school level sprinter who can compete with a pro bodybuilder on stage. You are comparing two entirely different sports, I was making an example when I referred to Sprinters.
-
So many ownings!!!!..... I can feel MR INTENSEONE is on the verge of a full blown meltdown!
-
And there isn't one high school level sprinter who can compete with a pro bodybuilder on stage. You are comparing two entirely different sports, I was making an example when I referred to Sprinters.
Yes, it's rediculous argument. It doesn't prove anything.
Even so, Kevin Levrone is known to be very fast, and held his own in a race against an olympic sprinter.
So once again, Intenseone proven wrong.
-
And there isn't one high school level sprinter who can compete with a pro bodybuilder on stage.
Brilliant deduction ::)!!

I am not very familiar with individual world class sprinters so I can't bring forth any examples. Do you honestly think that drugs don't play a huge role in the Oympics? Drugs are an issue in Olympic competition that's why they have such stringent drug testing porgram in the first place.

Bodybuilding is only called a sport because it is convenient to call it that. Sure sounds a hell of a lot less gayer than calling it a pageant. And we know something abt bodybuilding and homosexuality ;D Besides that there is really nothing abt bb'ing that would qualify it as a sport, since it requires no athletic ability, or a skill (except posing, which is a skill a model also posseses, but I wonder why no one calls it a sport as well).

We should just drop it.
Bast already proved you wrong by pulling up the dictionary definition.
Let's recap:
Bodybuilding is a sport and a skill. Bodybuilders are athletes. This has been proven with the dictionary.
The fact that it is also a pageant does not preclude it from being a sport. :)

Thats what I get for trying to reason with Liberals and Children....same mentality!

Even Kevin Levrone owned Intenseone in absentia!
-
He competed, and did very well. ::)
Bullshit, it was only a 60m race. Kevin was so far behind that he didn't even bother finishing. Look at the video.Levrone would get smoked by 99% of ncaa linebackers in a 100m race.
-
hahaha and there you have it! Bodybuilding is the greatest sport known to men!
-
Everything is a sport these days. Taking a shit is even considered a sport
-
So many ownings!!!!..... I can feel MR INTENSEONE is on the verge of a full blown meltdown!
His meltdown will be as boring as the workout pictures of himself he posted... ::)
Massive 20lbs+beard workouts....lame...

I dont see a good argument there, just claims that you want people to accpet as facts. Boydbuilders are not athletic- but lets say for arguments sake that a particular bodybuilder is indeed athletic, for example Levrone. Do you really think a bb
'ing judge really gives a shit how athletic he is? The reigning Mr.Olympia is neither athletic nor skilled at posing- the two things u claim makes bb'ing a sport.
Bodybuilding is still a pageant, not a sport. ;)

Ronnie Coleman started as a competitive powerlifer. ::)

How many baseball players could do this? and look good while doing it?
None...if they could they wouldn't be athletes :P!!

Mr Intenseone often shoves a baseball bat up his own ass. Does that make him an athlete?

I never played baseball, just hearing the name make me snooz.
And unlike you I dont post pictures of myself for strangers.
I dont like the idea of gay people jerking off on them.
I dont want to see them photoshoped.
I dont need the validation of people I dont know.
Basicly all the reasons that make you do it,seem retarded to me.

Yet you call yourself "IFBBwannaB" with the obvious ambition to compete in front of a live crowd...I would rather keep in pictures!
-

Apparently at the gay games it does..
-
The act of lifting weights is a sport
Agreed. The first time you do a certain exercise you will undoubtedly have bad form. Which, would mean that once you can lift with that form it has now become a skill.
Also, can't really argue powerlifting isn't sport.

you fucker I can't tell if you're being facetious >:(
I maybe making an ass of myself ;D

A Powerlifting program is definatly a part of making an athlete better at his/her sport......can't say that about bodybuilding!!

LMAO!! Whoosh.... that went right over your head.
My nick name is a joke about all the people that think they are mini-pro's...ahhmm...you...?.....
I never wanted to compete ,I even declined when I was offered sponsership.
I know you wont take my word for it but I got very good BB genetics and thats why I had that offered by a friend that wanted exposre to his products.I simply dont see any apeal in it for me.

Seriously, do you have a college education? You might know a lot about PT, but you discuss and argument like a 7 year old. They are like "I've closed my eyes, and because I can not see you, you can not see me. I'm invisible", and you act in just the same manner in this and every other discussion ....
DF, lets take a real look at the majority of posters on here, the average age is probably between 18-25, in school and living with their parents, their idea of a discussion is through insults....this thread is a perfect example of not being able to have a discussion without name calling or insulting, hell, most of the people on this board think a person is "owned" when they think they have insulted them enough and just because I choose not to insult or name call (most of the time) doesn't by anymeans mean I cannot discuss a subject!
-
I cannot discuss a subject!
-
Thanks for proving my point!

good thing Joe can 'personal train' otherwise he'd be working at McDonalds with his mental capacity.

Mr. Intenseone has worked in a gym for 25 years. He's very knowledgeable about every subject.

Mr Intenseone, in all seriousness you have no debating skills whatsoever...... the only debate you could have is with your hand......

What if you simply got it together and proved me wrong? Then I'll be the first to say that I was wrong in my assumptions and give you credit for your intelligence (once it's shown) :D
Looking at the responses in this thread is proof enough!!
-
No...it's not true because it isn't an f'ing sport.......damn, what does it take to get through to you people??
Yes, it's a sport.
I want to make reference to the book: Pumping Iron. Chapter 1, defines B.B. as a sport.
Moreover, Arnold says in the movie: Pumping Iron, that: "It's the best sport in the world."
Last but no least: B.B. meets the criteria for a sport - by definition.
I used to be a personal trainer. ;D

There's very little abt bodybuilding that would define it as a sport.

Ah-nald says it's a sport. So it must be a sport, plain and simple. What Ah-nald says goes. 8) I hope I put this argument to rest.

Ha, my post got deleted in this thread and all I did was voice my opininon that I don't think a "bodybuilder" necessarily has to have any goal of stepping on stage. Gayer than deoderant gel.
