The smith machine puts more stress on my rotator cuffs. I usually do barbell front shoulder presses more, about 4-5 sets, followed up 2 sets of behind the neck. Behind the neck isolates the mid head of the delts, but can cause serious problems.
My accident happened on the lowering of the bar, no one spotting me and my shoulder socket just gave way like a piece of cardboard and it came crashing down nearly taking out another gym goer, partial dislocation mild tears to rotator cuff and shoulderjoint using the smith machine one twist of the wrists and i would have been saved 6 months of pain and physio bills.Did 6 reps of 80 pound dumbells and the joint still feels week but little painfull afterwoods.
People ask me why i only use machines with exception of dumbells and i tell them INJURY, Look at J P FUX squatting 6 plates and nearly snaps his leg in half, with a smith machine probability 99 times out of a hundred he would have been saved.I am only suggestiging smith machine for heavy weights not light, also experienced with supplements that the muscle becomes to large for the connective tissue and is very easy or prone to injury and next cycle will only be using 80dbs for warmup and the rest on machines. Not bragging have reached Levrones size in video without the near flawless physique he has would like to post photos but my tatts are to numerous and would upset some of the board.
Levrone in my opinion the winner of the 2002 MrO.
