Both shrapnel and overpressure from the blast. It was about 4 feet or so from the HMMWV when detonated.

In the second pic? It is basically, by my Doc's description, a "surgical grade trashbag." It is actually part of a system called a wound vac. They seal the plastic down with tape to make the wound airtight, then hook up a machine that applies suction to the wound. This suction pulls out large amounts of the fluid that causes swelling in the injury. Im not sure of the machines MOA, but it literally accelerates healing time by weeks. it is a wonderful machine.

For someone who really should be in a bad state he is doing pretty well flaming,sending PMs,making thread after thread post after post,arguing posting rapid fire..I think he is full of shit..he got exposed and ran off screaming he was going to sue Ron and others and then comes back with an apparent mystry skin eating illness..
If that was me the last thing id be doing would be living it up on GB arguing politics and with other posters.you really just would not want to be doing that..

Like Alex said your a beast brother. No doubt that it takes a real man to serve his country, but it takes an even bigger man to accept the adversidy thrown at him when something like this happens. Pegg serious question were you the least bitter when it happened? I can't imagine what would be going through a persons head in the heat of something like this. All of the recoup that it had to take and the surgeries.. Damn brother, thanks for giving your life so I could live mine. I'm just glad that you kept your's in the process.

It's amazing that your arm didn't have to be amputated. How long was the healing process on this, I would guess with rehab and everything it had to be over 18 months.... Well your the man and your wife is gorgeous buddy.  It must have been the arm that got her.
