For those who compete...

Just was wondering how your carb up process went, did you stay clean or go all out, and what worked the best for you guys?

Most powerlifters don't really give a shit what they eat as long as they 1) get enough of protein 2) get enough calories 3) make weight

I've noticed that a lot of guys would rather dyhydrate themselves in order to make weight than eat clean for a few weeks before the meet.

The problem is it is hard to get enough protein and calories while eating clean, it's a crazy sport dude.

 Yo, POPEYE!

TheBlockHead is all up in this hissssouuuusssse!!!!

Me personally, my show is Saturday. I still have just a tad of bf to shed before I carb up so this is my game plan for the week...

My last carb-meal was Saturday around noon. Since then its been that Jenne-O 99% fat free trukey-loins and broccoli every 2-3 hours w/ a couple EFA caps...Sunday it was turkey/broccoli 5x's that day...a small handfull of almonds here and there and water at 2 gallons...same today(monday) and it will be the same up until Thursday...

Thursday now...Thursday I will drop water to 16-20oz of grapefruit juice sipped throughout the day...chicken or turkey w/ broccoli or spinich throughout the day...a couple EFA's with each meal...that will also be my last cardio session in the morning(40minutes). I will train maybe back...biceps and some abs around 7pm...all contracting/squeezing/pumping. BCAA's/Glutamine in between meals...work on posing...then around 9 my first coat of ProTan is applied. Before bed-time I will have a lean-cut steak patty or two...bcaas/glutamine.

Friday is when I'll carb-up...chicken/sweet potatoes for b-fast, lunch, dinner, in between those meals...maybe some dried fruit w/ bcaa's/glutamine. Fluids cut down to 10-12 oz grapefruit juice sipped throughout the day...

The way I see it...if I need MORE filling out then I can always do it saturday morning...w/ whole wheat pancakes...little bit of syrup and then some more 1/2 hour before pre-judging. See what I'm saying?

I deprive myself MORE of carbs by waiting till friday to carb-up...and I dont even carb-up...just have carbs in the 300 gram range spaced throughout the day...but by 7pm Friday...carbs will be cut again until Saturday at 7am.

 Hope this helps, nugga!

Other then not understanding some of it I thought it was very comprehensive and pretty much right on.  I know my experiences are different then yours but it was close to what I did last year (and the adjustments I had planned on making before reading this were in line with what he said).  He made it easy to understand how to implement-thanks I really needed an article like that to help out some first timers.  Who wrote it?

Yo, Popeye...

TheBlockHead is all up in this hiiisssouuussseee!

I read it...it makes sense but the only way to know for sure is to roll the dice and see what happens. It's a gamble...Im tempted to sodium load and NOT cut water until day of the show in stead of doing the opposite but I cant risk rolling a 7...know what i'm sayin?

You wont really know what works best for you until you tried it yourself...Im not ruling it out but I cant take the gamble right now. Remember this...there is more than 1 way to skin a cat.
