I guess the question becomes, when do you consider yourself enthusiast? Brian, picked up the watch collecting this year and for some reason spent $100,000 on junk.
Regardless of the amount spent. Brian has a mental condition. He can’t focus on things for a long period of time. Hence his joblessness.
It’s like any of his activities that he pursues. Tries it for a month or two and then just quits
Arm wrestling
Curls
Trike
Law School
I think he picked it up and went at it with his own unique angle. It isn't the "most optimal" one that all those reddit hypebeast resale value whores are into, it's more like "I like the look/some aspect of that, I'm getting that". I respect that. I think it's arguably actually more genuine interest than simply stockbroking with timepieces.
Posting his collection to what will very likely be a bunch of people who are pathologically afraid of losing money (because most us have to be) is the questionable move by him.
As for his lack of focus. He was set up to struggle with focus. He has no essential need to focus. Most of us have no choice to get up in the morning and go to work. We don't need motivation, we have it. That keeps us very honest. Can you attest to being as focused as you are during work times, when you're on holidays? I'm holidays for another week and I'm fucking wasting it talking about bhanks on a message board.
I'm not saying we couldn't do better than him, I'm just saying, get a bunch of money and no need to work or do anything and it certainly would test us all to actually be able to achieve things. If you have the personality of "oh I want to try that" for shitloads of things (I do), I think it'd be real hard not to be an aimless loser.
