I think he picked it up and went at it with his own unique angle.  It isn't the "most optimal" one that all those reddit hypebeast resale value whores are into, it's more like "I like the look/some aspect of that, I'm getting that".  I respect that.  I think it's arguably actually more genuine interest than simply stockbroking with timepieces. 

Posting his collection to what will very likely be a bunch of people who are pathologically afraid of losing money (because most us have to be) is the questionable move by him. 

As for his lack of focus.  He was set up to struggle with focus.  He has no essential need to focus.  Most of us have no choice to get up in the morning and go to work.  We don't need motivation, we have it.  That keeps us very honest.  Can you attest to being as focused as you are during work times, when you're on holidays?  I'm holidays for another week and I'm fucking wasting it talking about bhanks on a message board.

I'm not saying we couldn't do better than him, I'm just saying, get a bunch of money and no need to work or do anything and it certainly would test us all to actually be able to achieve things.  If you have the personality of "oh I want to try that" for shitloads of things (I do), I think it'd be real hard not to be an aimless loser.

The very first thing he did was buy the common hype pieces that one hears about the second they dive into this: Rolex Datejust, Omega Speedmaster, Cartier Tank, Tudor GMT. All of these brands make cool models (I really like some Tanks and Datejusts, too) but Brian went straight for the most generic, uninspired ones that could be bought immediately.

He's also constantly boasted that all of his watches come straight from retail and that he wouldn't ever buy another man's watch. That is why he pissed away 100 grand so quickly, and why he ended up with so many pieces of shit after that. He had no other option.

Annoying as it is, you simply cannot walk into Rolex and buy the models you like. You have to wait and jump through hoops. It takes a long time for allocations to come in and they make you build up a spend history. This is fairly common for all of the top brands with desirable pieces. Brian wanted immediate gratification and he desperately needed to have the biggest collection going in order to satisfy his ego, so he quickly bought every quirky and readily available shitter he could find in order to get his numbers up and make it look like he was a serious collector.

Now he's all over the internet challenging people to post their 'tiny' and 'common' collections. This is a competition to him. As I mentioned somewhere earlier, he literally could not even pronounce the word 'tourbillion' in a now-deleted Facebook video, and yet he's screaming at everyone that Rolex and Patek are shit and he's got a 'fucking tourbillion in grade 5 titanium.'

He was also constantly berating people on there for having small wrists, and telling them to buy food and lift weights when they were just trying to share their pieces with other collectors. The guy is an insufferable man-child. Hilarious that everyone turned on him once again and forced him to delete his account.
