How much recovery time do you give yourself?
« on: September 08, 2007, 04:31:51 PM »
I was always curious about hearing how much recovery time people give themselves because I usually give myself 2 days between lifting so;

Chest/Triceps, 2 days, Back, Bizeps, 2 Days, Shoulders, Legs, 2 days...etc...

Assuming you are natural, how much time do you give your self? I remember in the beginning working out 5 days a week with only 2 days off and I was just killing myself, making no progress and getting injuries and it took me a while to figure out my own rhythm but I did even though some people scoff at it it works well for me and I suppose the older I get the more recovery time I will need so that will only increase...anyway how much time do you take off inbetween lifting days. Also Iwould be interested in hearing from the juicers as well...

I give myself a couple of months between sets, full recovery is a necessity.

once again its obvious your mind is defeating your body.

no need to rest 2 days between workouts. your resting way too long before a muscle is worked again. specially as you have minimized overlap in your routine.

try a 5 day routine (3 day on one off, 2 one one off...repeat), or some other routine where you workout more frequently.

arms, legs,rest, chest,back,shoulders,rest

each session 45min. first couple of weeks will be a bitch..then body adapts and you will start making good gains.

you can do alot more than you think.

when you start working on triceps on another day than bench you will soon notice your bench numbers increasing...

5 days on Major Body parts or:
1. Your a freak & on AAS.
 2. Your ripping up
3. Your body just dont like heavy weights.
If most guys can hit a Major part in  < 5 days - They aint lifting heavy/ hard enough.

Smaller BPs I can hit more often, but tendonitus becomes a issue w/ Bi & TRi.

Those 2 get such abuse from heavy back work anyway its not a issue for many guys except them w/
competitive BBing aspirations IMO.

If You have someone much stronger then you run ya thru HIT forced reps, and wieghts much highr than you
THOUGHT you were capable of,..  I guarentee you - 5 days will seem like nothing. That muscle SHOULD
be in DEEP PAIN for 2-3 days after a WO. 2 more days is recovery.

I personally find the 2 days just right for me; sometimes I make it just one day but I need lots of recovery. Training 25%/Recovery 75%...

forced reps shouldnt be used 99% of the time. better to keep CNS fresh so you can work your muscles with higher volume  and /or frequency. a muscle can surely been trained more often than every 5th day..it depends on how you set your working program. in the 5 day split i suggested..everything should be hit once a week with pretty high volume.but you can also basically split that volume and do every muscle 2 times per week. and always when you do something new let your body grow into, in this case i think he should increase volume gradually and increase the number of days he is working out.

doesnt have to be a 5 split..but his frequency is surely to low at this point. also he shouldnt go to failure..i think he willl start seeing dramatic increses in his lifts if he listens to me.

na i dont believe you, its just excuses because your mind is weak+ im guessing you go to failure all the time  thus limiting the amount of loading on the muscle per session and lowering frequency. you could condition (to make faster gains) you body in a few weeks to handle more training. and remember to avoid failure most of the time.

Not a fan of HIT or that kind of thing huh? What's wrong with going to failure? It seems to be the classic volume vs. intensity debate...

Everyone should switch it around now and then. Cycle intensity/ volume.

Well you saw my current programme; right now I am doing more volume (albeit in a weird way) than intensity; btw, it's going pretty well...

I train Mon-Fri,take the weekends off.
my gym is in the same town I work so it's easier for me to hit the gym right after work.
I usually play golf and softball on weekends so I can't get into the gym.

I change it up. Sometimes every other day working the body on a 3 day split. 2 on 1 off using a two day split. 3 on one off using a three day split. I personally like working out every other day splitting the body up over three workouts. I also do cardio every time I lift. One thing I found out is you can get into the same shape whether you work a bodypart once a week or twice a week.
