SUPPLEMENTS, GOOD OR BAD???
« on: October 12, 2006, 01:01:08 PM »
Ok i admit i am kinda dumb when it comes to what supplements to take and what not to take.

Right now i am taking mulit vitamin, fish oil caps, and whey protein.

I was told to take L-arginine, Glutamine, BCAA'S and amino acids as well. What do you guys think?

What i am trying to due is bulk / tone up. and then aventually i will go through a cutting stage to cut excess fat to become lean.

My ultimate goal is to do this without gear, so i am looking for the combonation of supplements to will give me the best results.

I am 27yrs old 5'11 220 lbs (yes i am alittle chunky) I spend an  hour a day in the gym 5 days a week.

cut down your amount of time in teh gym and 5 days a week is alot. try to go intense and fats and only be in the gym 40-45 minutes. i wld do 4 exercises for legs and back, 3 for chest and shoulders, and 2-3 for bis and tris. do abs only 2 times a week. 3 sets of leg raises 10-20, 3 sets of crunched 15-20 and 2 sets of decline sit ups 15-20. if your trying to loose weight up protein and stay away from bad carbs. do cardio 3 times a week if possible in the morning, if not do it after your workout for 30-40 minutes. as far as supplements, whey protein after your workout and maybe in the day before or after lunch. a multi and vitamin c

To answer your original question:

Supplements : Good or bad ?

Answer: Good for the pockets of the supplement companies

            Bad for your wallet.

In other words, eat sensibly, forget about protein powders and all these other things designed to make your wallet lighter ------most of what you listed ----you will see absolutely no effect on your body

Except--------a good multivitamin tablet cant hurt, and creatine definitely works for most everybody that trys it.

I've been doing this too long, tried too many different things, and seen hundreds of others over the years and their results, so I am speaking from experience.

You will have a larger bank account if you follow my advice. Honestly.  ;)

P.S. You are smart not to use gear, or ever want to use it , for that matter.

You would be foolish not to take advantage of what science tells you, but it takes some leg work to weed out biased (Madison Avenue-backed) science from the legitimate body of nutritional knowledge out there.

Rejecting all supplements without exception to save money is like saying, lift bales of hay instead of weights, otherwise you will make the manufacturers of fitness equipment rich.  Let moderation, intelligence and dilligence be your guide.

I don't understand why some people consider whey protein a "supplement"  ??? ??? ???
To me, that's like saying eggs or chicken are supplements...

To me a supplement is any product that gives substances that are impossible or impractical to get from regular food in high doses.

Whey is such a product. It comes from milk, but only a fifth of milk's protein is whey. I consume around 200 grams of whey protein per day. To get that much from milk, I'd have to drink 1000 fluid ounces (that's EIGHT GALLONS) of milk a day.
