You know I like a good elbow strike to the face as much as anybody but at this time, I think it's doing more harm than good to the sport... some chickenshit like Kenny Florian get lucky and get a cut and hopes to win a fight because of that because he doesnt have anything else, is bullshit. UFC shouldnt be about who got the thickest skin on the head...

I think they should consider it. Pride does not allow elbows, and I like their rules better.

I see your point,however, in my opinion,the UFC went to shit as soon as they started adding rules...somewhere around UFC 17-20,I can't remember. It was bad enough when they took away head butts.My point is,if you were to get into a real fight on the street,then anything goes.How can you determine which guy is the better fighter if you tell him he can't use every weapon /method available to him?I realize you will probably argue that it is a contest of mixed martial arts,and that the winner should be the one with the best martial arts skills,but ultimately it should be who is the best at a real fight situation.Take Tank Abbott for example; He was just a brawler,but he could kick some ass(until he ran out of wind that is).

You do have some good points gt. I just hate seeing fights stopped because an elbow causes a cut (Florian getting manhandled by Leben and landing one elbow).

The UFC had to add the rules to keep from being banned. It changed things a bit, but brought the skill level up imo.

They changed the rules due to the fact it was on track to be banned in America with the previous rule set. It was either conform or cease to exist.

I agree with Bluto by the way, too many UFC fights today involve some schmuck who landed a lucky elbow to cause a cut. It seems that most of the fighters just throw elbows hoping to open a cut and end a fight, not like the good ol fashioned days. It's a shame really. I'll take PRIDE any day.

If I remember correctly,wasn't he that little short dude that trained with Kimo(or at least worked his corner)? Practiced "JOSANDO" or some shit like that...it has been awhile since I watched those old UFC'S

i used to laugh at the idea but i se Ken-flo using it as an out, especially when he is in shit, (c. vs KAralexis)

plus it will help with the push to become mainstream. as with the rule changes a while back, these resulted in more skillful fights and i'm all up for that!

Without the rules these fights would be banned. It sucks. I really like the no holds barred type fights In Brazil and old pride. You know, where you could dig your fingers in a cut to open it up. O yea, No gloves. Some of the early Mark Kerr fights were awesome. Skill and very little rules. If you have ever seen " Smashing machine " Kerr dominated and was undefeted in all his fights including the ones in Brazil !!!! ( And that's saying alot) but his second time around in Pride they banned knees two the head and elbows when a guy is down. The result was Mark kerr not being able to dominate anymore. He went dwnhill after he lost two fights in a row.

He took a lot of painkillers in that movie. I thought he lost to Mark Coleman at the end?

Nubain and Fiancee problems led to his downfall. He would have had to fight Coleman if he made it that far. But he lost to a Russian or chech guy. I forget his name but he was a tough son of a bitch. O yeah
No weight classes at that time as well. Also you fought more than once a night if you kept winning. Brutal fights. That's why in general , the pride fighters are better.
Look for Pride coming to Vegas this week or next. One of the title fights is Colman vs Fedor. Coleman is a little past his prime, but I will be watching just to see Fedor. ( considered the best fighter on the planet ) at any weight class.

And tank usually ran out of gas.....WHAT 1 minute into the first round.... shit i think i saw tank run out of gas one time walking his fat lazy untrained ass to the ring....

Banning elbows wouldnt solve anything. Thats almost as bad as saying you cant hit with your left foot or right hand. It's a fight and its stand up and ground how could you eliminate elbows.... and Pride lets you kick fools on the ground.....

Because elbows accomplish nothing but ending a fight by bleeding and not skill. It's ridiculous watching a guy sit there wailing on a cut hoping to get a stoppage instead of finishing it the old way.

i say dont stop fighht on the account of blood, if they pass out due to blood loss they lose, the rush them to the er and get some blood in them, or they can quit when they want. what i think they should allow in is kness on the ground if you front head lock a guy and he goes to teh ground you shld be able to knee the shit out of his head. i say no bitting, eye poking, ball hitting, scratching, fence pulling, or holding on to shorts. besides that eveything else shld be legal, head buts, elbows, ect

Do you realize how stupid you sound? They stop it in these situations DUE TO THE RULES. If they go on with the fight with blood pouring out, I guarantee the UFC wouldn't be around for long. Are you new to the sport or something? You seem to have no concept of the fact that it is what it is due to people like McCain trying to get it banned. But hey, let's have a guy bleed all over the place, sounds brilliant.

first of all I'm probably 1 of 3 people on the board who actually compete in the sport, i am young so i haven't been around forever. understand it will never happen because of laws and a public image,however when i train or fight i feel like a gladiator. i go in the ring or on the mat thinking this guy wants to kill me and the only way for me to win is to kill him, a warriors mentality. your entitled to your opinion as i am mine.
