saddest movie you can think of
« on: October 29, 2006, 06:12:50 AM »
for me its probably blow with johnn depp. first his wife gets a brain tumor, than his mom turns him into the cops, than his wife gets him jailed, then his wife takes his daughter away, then his daughter never visits him in prison ... and the worst part was without all that bolivian marching powder around none of the chix did any crazy sex shit

"Breaking the waves" is up there IMO.

I feel fcuking nauseated only from thinking about the religious extremism in that movie.

Masterpiece by Von Trier.

it wasnt exactly an uplifting experience, but i didnt find it too sad. reason being is i had seen the documentary on that canadian general romeo dallaire (played by nick nolte i think) and it was alot more graphic.

Von Trier at the top of his game undoubtedly . . . unlike the recent crap.

Loved this movie . . .

was Von Trier only trying to nauseate?  I thought he was also suggesting that there was something to her faith . . . after all, in the end, she does get what she believes she will get.

The Age of Innocence

The English Patient

The Widow of Saint-Pierre

Malena

and... The Constant Gardner

"Sad" movies are generally chick flicks and I avoid them like the plague.  But I did watch Titanic under duress, and that one was pretty sad I guess.

That's a narrow interpretation. What about Requiem for a Dream, Leaving Las Vegas, Irreversible or even Bambi for that matter.

Who can blame you... plus she does great work in the beautiful but suffering roles.

Yes it's a narrow interpretation, but my movie genre is pretty small.   :)  Only one I've seen is Bambi.  That doesn't count.

I would rather endure waterboarding than watch something like The English Patient.

Somehow I highly doubt that.  :) Perhaps you should have compared it to wearing a hair shirt.  ;) Curious... have you seen the English Patient? Read the book? Am interested to know why you would be averse to watching it.

ps. another "sad" film that isn't a chick flick: Remains of the Day.

Never seen The English Patient.  I wouldn't be caught dead reading the book.  The only "chick book" I've read is Memoirs of a Geisha.  Well, maybe Snow Falling on Cedars is another.  But I don't like love stories (i.e., chick flicks).  I prefer brain dead action/adventure movies and slapstick comedy.  The occasional drama.  Give me James Bond and Mel Brooks any day of the week.
