Barbell curls are easy. Perfect form with torturous forced reps to failure. Tough but easy compared to some other exercises.

Squats to failure with forced reps are the worst! And standing calf rises to failure with good form and slow reps are second for me.

Nothing to do with arm work, they're small muscles & are away from the core.

Work involving the largest muscles, and/or core, that quickly generate oxygen debt:
Squats, free-weight 2-arm BB/T-bar rows, chins, cleans, etc.

Joint pain is something else; the exercise has to be corrected using a different grip, form or exercise, or more moderate reps.

1) Clean & Jerk Press...total body workout  if done from a squat clean position.
2) DL's
3) Squats
All for higher reps...12-20

Also among the more brutal:

Pullover & press
Dips...weighted
BB Row

Good Luck.

how the f**k is a barbell curl hard?

Out of the exercises that bodybuilders usually do, squats require the most amout of coordination and effort IMO. Deadlifts have the "tough" factor but dont require as much skill.

As for exercises in general... the Oly lifts are a bitch to learn.

Probably Deadlifts for me, since I never got the form right, so it was hard in that sense.

As for strength wise, hard to say. Going to failure takes it out of me on any 'cise.

You misunderstood what he's saying here, jsut like I did. He's listing the exercises that he finds painful, not necessarily the one's that he finds take the most effort... for example, he mentions that barbell curls cause a burn in his forearms... this is akin to feeling  a good burn after/during a set of calf raises.

On that note I wanna apologise to him for the harsh language I used. There was no need for it.

This is a tricky question, squats and deads make me want to puke and hurt when I'm finished, but when I'm doing them it's not so much pain, I feel more pressure then pain.  They are the hardest lifts to perform, but the most painful for me.....hanging leg raises.  I'm serious too, when I do these it actually feels like someone has a blow torch 6" away from my lower abs.
