Can a pro under 230lbs. win the Olympia?
« on: November 25, 2006, 03:45:38 PM »
About 10 years ago, there was a debate on if the title would ever go to a guy under 200 lbs.  I think Shawn Ray had the best chance, but we all know how that ended.

By today's standards, could a sub 230 lbs. win?  Doubt I'll see a sub 5'7 win the title, but this may come before a sub 230 pounder.  Discuss?

The only sub 230 guy right now w/a chance is.......Phil Heath, not because he has the best physique, but because of politics

No.  At the O, People expect to see freaks.  That is why we Bodybuild we want to stand out from the people who look athletic.

At the Biggest freak show of the year, The guy that looks big for his height (Ex David Henry, no dis great BBer) will never win out against a Cutler, Coleman, Yates. Unless the big guy pulls a Branch Warren and shows up off season.

The last Mr Olympia winner under 200lbs was Samir Bannout in 1983 he was 188 pounds ! the last Mr Olympia who was 240lbs was Lee Haney in 1984 !

Flex Wheeler could have won it under the right set of circumstances at 230lbs like his 1993 ASC condition but the chances of anyone under 230lbs winning are very rare in this day and age.

do any of these guys really "beat" eachother... not really... it all comes down to what the judges decide they want to reward that year... these judges have half a dozen meetings the week of the Mr. O.... FOR WHAT REASON, they kno the criteria..... its to decide who THEY and the IFBB want to be Mr. O, thast why its the same judges over and over, cause they do as theyre told, and keep their mouths shut...

hopefully the politics were set up to faze these mass monsters out... i mean they couldnt give melvin dex of Vic the O unless jay came in way off, cause it woulda undermined theyre entire lie... so they give it to jay this year.... and hopefully melvin, dex, vic, or phil are able to "beat" the competition next year

Yes. Phil will win the Olympia at 230 lbs. or right under. He was 209 on stage at the NY and Colorado Pro shows. With another 20 lbs. of muscle he'd be unbeatable.

and yet he looks better than 99% of pro's today...sad isn't it

clavicle width is overrated...levrone had some of the smallest clavicles ever in a pro and he's won what...more shows than any other pro to date

heath will win

and your point is???? If that's the biggest problem that Phil has than I'd say he's gonna continue to do alright.

  • You dont have to be the BIGGEST to be the BEST!

Yeah........ thats cool Subject ;), coz in PDI you dont have to be THE BIGGEST TO BE THE BEST :o   i was 208 and Lee priest was around 205 i think and still we managed the show where there was guys around 260s and more with good shape!!   but PDI reward the best athletes with (symmetry+condition+details+posing presentation)  i am so Glad with PDI and i dont think in IFBB there will be the same Standard coz if it was we will see
1-Shawn ray 1 to 2 Mr. O
2-flex Wheeler 2 to 3 Mr.O
3-Kevin levrone 1 Mr.O
4- Lee Labrada 2 Mr. O

thats how i see it if they gonna be fair :-\  but as some one said its all up to WHAT THEY WANT (IFBB) >:(

ie- dorian 0 or 1.... ahha agreed...  but a pro under 230 can win shows in the ifbb also, this thread concerns the olympia  ;D... which the PDI doesnt have  :-\ :-\

he did look better then 99% of pros today... but no ronnie has won more shows.... and ronnie has some if not the widest clavicles ever... not to mention your kinda proving his point, cause this thread is about WINNING the O... not winning other shows... kevin was great but his narrow clavicles held him from winning the O.... theres never been a narrow O
