You may have heard the controversial story of two parents who have basicly stunted the growth of their daughter by letting the doctors give her high doses of oestrogen, and removing uterus, appendix and breasts. so as to keep her small so she will be easier to handle in the years to come

She has a rare brain disorder which leaves not being able to do anything for herself and is basicly a cabbage. The parents said they did it to "maximise her quality of life" but I ask what is a life when all you do is lie there and dribble with no comprehension of yourself or yhe world about you?

I'm up there with you but I consider a high IQ to often be a mixed blessing which in no way makes one superior to those who may be less intelligent...  although sometimes I seriously wonder how people with an IQ much under 100 manage to make it through life.

Ok, whatever you say polythesist.

How often do you pray to the Goddesses these days? Who's your fave? al-Lat, al-'Uzza or Manat?

Ironic you should call me a pagan, when it was once your prophet who commissioned the worship of pagan Goddesses and idols.

Geez Dies.

Not sure about this one.  I've a friend who is an ex-midwife (catholic), who worked in Italy.  According to her, they just throttle the disformed babes, chuck it out and tell the mum everything will be alright.

Nowadays, of course, sperm is dysfunctional and so are women's eggs, so they'll have just about anything.  I mean, my heart goes out to them, but I reckon they're taking on far too much.  Plus it costs way too much.

I also have a personal story about this:  My mum had rubella (german measles) during early pregnancy.  This was the early 60s or thereabouts.  Nowadays they would abort.  I was born with a congenital cataract (blind in one eye).  I coulda been downs syndrome or something.  Instead, I'm beautiful, can see fine, have perfect teeth, great skin, nice bones
...and I've a high IQ.

I don't know, but i think I'd abort the mongoloid.
sorry
xL

(& that's pretty much how come I decided not to have children...  Hell no.

So, at once upon a time sperm and ovaries where 100% perfect in every human?

OK...  ::)

  • like it or don't, learn to live with it..whooooooo
well considering I lived with a severly handicapped son for a little over a year I would say yes.  My son was born with HPE, basically he had a stroke in utero and his brain stopped developing very early on.  He was born with very little brain matter and tons of complications.  We decided to have the baby and do everything in our power to keep him comfortable while he was alive, we had him on various forms of pain medication and monitored him very closely.  it was hard but I think it brought our family closer together and now we help other families out who are in similar situations.  I fully underestand that some people can't handle it.

the time my family spent with my son was some of the most touching moments in my life, my son and daughter are much stronger for helping out with thier brother and cherish the memories they have of him.

thanks, natur-al, for your story.  obviously I don't know wtf I'm talking about.
I just know I'm so very lucky.

well, it wasn't easy but it was a very touching time in our lives.  I don't wish it on anybody cause there was alot of heartache.  WE had hospas so we had alot of support, if you get in touch with the right people they can provide alot of mental as well as medical support.  I would encourage anyone with a handicapped child to contact thier hospital and look into support groups and if it's needed get hospas involved.  Doctors for the most part are very cold and don't offer enough information...we were just told "you're gonna have a vegtable" initially but once hospas came into our lives they helped us understand exactly what was going on and what we needed to do to keep my son comfortable, they worked with us on eveything.
