After a drought of top fighters and matches. the UFC heavyweight division is looking goddamn very healthy , very fast ....
Couture out of retirement,,, the arrivial of CRO COP and Heath Herring ....Sylvia and Arlovski and Monson,,, the emergence of new stars in Jake O Brien, Brandon Vera and Gabriel Gonzaga

exciting Fights will be coming !

Vera is the best prospect IMO for the up-and-comers. Herring and Crocop are going to be electric, I see Crocop bitching the entire division but i dont see Couture being the impact fighter he was 5-6 years ago. he should have stayed retired although i believe he still has something to offer. Sylvia is going to be exposed very soon by any of the new comers. He is a good enough fighter with lots of power, but the skills he lacks are what made the reputations of Crocop and Herring. Arlovski is finished as a title contender unless he can find the courage to bury people like Tim, Monson is just too small to compete against the big guys.

this sets them for the next year anyway, but Dana HAS to keep adding these names to keep the main events fresh. Im sick of seeing rematched or rubber matches top every card

The HW division still need a couple of big names to make it exiting, still things look better now than it has for a few years so at least it's a step in the right direction... I can't see anyone taking on Crocop, but at least you would want to watch him, no matter who he fights.

I really wanted to see Vera climb to the top and get his title shot but now with Crocop in the UFC I have a feeling Vera might get pushed to the back of the pack.  2007 is gonna be a nice year in the HW's.

Since they haven't signed Vera to a long term deal, he will prolly be a non ppv fighter for his last fight, and get relegated to the non televised bout.  Too bad, he is a talent.  They need Aleks and Sergei like it was rumored some months ago.

i don't see vera winning..if he does he won't stay champ very long. he's a good fighter but cro cop is at the top of the food chain.

From what I can see,,, The more success UFC has , the more $ DANA has to work with , the fighters will come to him ...This is like when WWF first really BLEW up in 1983...Then Vince McMahon systematically killed his competition... The top Guys will go to UFC cause thats where the big money and fighters will eventually be..... The Cable shows are in place, the PPV numbers are astronomical ...Now its just about booking great matches with intrest,,feuds...Just like Pro Wrestling....

IMO, the heavyweight division in mma will always take a backseat, talentwise, to the lighter divisions, especially with steroid testing in effect.

There just aren't that many really big guys with crazy skills. Fedor only weighs  about 230, and he isn't  exactly at 5% bodyfat.

Hell, he could probably diet down and fight at 205.

in all fairness Vera hasnt exactly earned a title shot yet, the guy has had what, 8 fights? Im sure he aknowledges that CroCop has the right to come into the company and challenge for the title immediately as he has proven his pedigree. Also since Crocop left because he wasnt guaranteed a quick rematch with fedor, im sure he negotiated a title fight with Dana top happen within 2-3 fights at most.

Either way, Veras chance of being number 1 has gone right out the window

I'll give Sylvia the respect that he's gotten this far on hard work, b/c other than good reach, he has few genetic gifts.  Hvywt MMA in the US just got put on notice, and Tim's in trouble...

Herring is no slouch either, and the Big Cat is making a comeback at 265.

I'm very hyped about Herring; I think UFC should be hyping his debut a lot more.  He's a big, tough fighter AND marketable...
