I think with the inevitable extinction of Joe Weider, bodybuilding will no longer have any legs to stand on as Arnold will no longer be associated with bodybuilding in its current state.  He apparently has made quite the pact with the Weider interests by the continuation of the Arnold Classic, much to his chagrin.

I disagree. Look at the facts. Bodybuilding is on Sirius, the Olympia improved from 2005, The Arnold is going be huge as always, more shows are getting extra money, new MD radio, supplement industry is growing with new products... Tiny steps foward.

I think the "Industry" will continue to grow, HOWEVER the "acceptance" by mainstream society will continue to distance its self even further.
Remember 15 years ago that show American Muscle that aired on ESPN, you could even see a few national level qualifying shows on ESPN in the late 80's. That all stopped about 12 years ago.
I think Figure competitions have really saved the industry. So many young nieve girls waste all their $$ entering shows and buying suits and investing in spplements. This has really fed the industry.

It is not uncommon for people to think things were better in the recent past.  but most often it was not.  bodybuilding today has its problems, but it did back then too.    the transition from the Hoffman era to the Weider Era was difficult.  many people thought bodybuilding would not survive.  Now we are transitioning from the Weider Era to something else.  bodybuilding will survive that too.

Bodybuilding used to be on network tv. Now, you can't even find it on cable.

I remember when the Night of Champions was held at the Beacon Theatre in NYC, a 4000 seat venue, and the night show would sell out.   Last I remember, the show, in its current incarnation, was held at a 1000 seat venue.
