Correct... "The city had no idea." 1000's of sane people had seen the signs and nobody cared.

Boston was scared of the talking french fries. ;D

How would the cops know if no one told them?  They responded to the call. I was there , I saw what went down. No one knew wtf was going on. So they played it safe.

You are acting like the cops knew what the devices where and spazed out. Again no police knew about the "signs" or campaign.

Weren't the signs up for weeks before this incident?

Didn't the beat cops (who walk and drive those paths every night) notice new oddly lit objects in places where no light power was supplied?  Pretty conspicuous places like bridges and sides of buildings.

Actually that means 10 other cities could have easily had the shit blown out of them. If I lived in Boston, I'd be happy with that fact.

If the banana peel I threw in the garbage today was a bomb, many people could have had the shit blown out of them.

You are all the same people that would be ripping the cops apart if someone was killed by a bomb. Same person that would post about how the cops dropped the ball and where neglagent.

yeah, but you're just a regular guy going to work, etc.

I'm talking about the cops.  They cruise those streets every night.  They're supposed to be on "elevated' alert.  Any area that had feet cops that didn't notice, they should sit the guys down and see what the problem is.  I bet if the deli underneath that brightly lit profane french fry LCD had a new brand of salami, the cop was aware of that.

Those kids were smug because they knew they would skate and make a lot of money doing the TODAY show in a week.  it was just a bad mix of irresponsible marketing and overzealous/unobservant police.

Maybe, it's possible. And if it is, what's your point? That they should have continued to just walk by after noticing?

The point is, the call came in the day when the cops did not know what the packages where. The places these signs where planted are places cops do not go. They where borderline hidden under bridges and shit.

I lived 2 blocks from a "device" and never saw it. Walk the bridge every night. Everyone is a monday morning qb.

No, I'm not kidding. I hope they face time.

Honestly, people with attitudes like yours scare the shit out of me a lot more than some "terror menace" does.

If this was a prank intended to be a bomb scare, I might agree with you, but it wasn't.  They were employees following orders to place neon signs. Neither they nor their bosses intended for them to be perceived as threats, nor would they have any reason to think they would be.

I sure as hell don't want to live in a country where you can be put in jail for making an honest mistake with no criminal intent. That's not the America I grew up in, and it's attitudes like yours that are slowly helping congress turn this country into a fascist police state.

Random, black, suspicious looking devices placed under major transit routes? They where practically hidden. Again, in the day there was no way to tell what these "devices" where. They where placed in shady spots in places where if seen in the day would cause suspicion. I saw one of the "signs" before it was detonated. In the day it looked like a black mechanical object. At the time this was going on no one knew what was going on. All these facts you guys bring up are all things discovered after the fact. No one here knew about the signs in other city's. The cops had no idea what they where. They responded to several calls from diff parts of the city about suspicious objects. In the day people passing under bridges had no idea what they where. Easy to criticize now that it is after the fact.

There was no way for the police to know what the objects where if they did not know what "they" where in the first place.  The objects where placed in areas where you would never think a sign would be put. I walked one of the bridges by the Charles every single night to get to my apt and ever saw the sign one time. Why people would bash the bomb squad for responding to reports of suspicious packages is beyiond me. If they did not have a clue about the "campaign" which they did not, how are they in the wrong? Its some think its out of the ordinary the police do not know about random devices that are sings placed under random bridges around the city. You know since Boston is not a major city with real  crime to fight.

They people being charged knew exactly what they where doing.

I'd like to tattoo this Franklin quote on the forehead of every congressman who voted to reauthorize the "Patriot Act" (there's a misnomer if I ever heard one).

They intended for the signs to be mistaken for bombs and to cause panic?  I'd love to see how the Boston DA plans to prove that beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

Oh, wait....  do we still get trials in America anymore?  Just say the word "terror", and ship them off to Gitmo, right?  I'm guessing the Keystone Kops at Homeland Security figure they're gonna get Osama's current location from these two, right?  ::)

No they planted black, mechanical looking, devices in the girders of transit bridges (10 times) near trains for the hell of it.

If they did not know during the day, when the signs where not lit up, some might find that a bit suspiscous, they deserve to be charged for being so stupid.

I wouldn't... Let me ask you a real question...

No offense to law enforcement, however, when was the last time a cop actually prevented a crime?

Now, some of you may say that police are a deterrent, and to that I say... if they were good deterrents we would have no crime at all, because there's a lot of cops... but let's get back to the point.

A policeman's job, is unfortunately, not to prevent crime, he is to report about crime, and if need be, arrest a criminal for a crime he has ALREADY done... Cops do not "prevent" crime in any way... sorry guys... A crime must already be committed to get one to even show up.

They may prevent a bad crime from escalating to a worse crime, for example, someone is kidnapped, and the police are called, maybe that person doesn't end up killed... but they've already been kidnapped, so a crime has really already been committed.

I do not hold cops to blame... however, if a HUGE thing goes down, I would like to know why the CIA, FBI, NSA, and maybe even the Secret Service (depending on the crim), didn't have a fucking clue... however, protecting me and my family is in all reality, my job.

You obviously have a grudge mang. Not sure what this has to do with police getting reports of suspicious devices under bridges and following procedure. Again, they had no idea they where signs, nor any idea about the campaign being put on by these tards. Cops do not cruise around at night checking out the girders of train bridges for signs. They fight crime and have things going on here. Like any other majoy city. This isnt Iowa.

If they knew you would have a point. But, they did not, just like most all of us. I live in the area 2 blocks from one of the bridges on the charles. Never saw a thing at night.

Dude, there are black metal non lit boxes all over the place... Cable boxes, Electrical boxes, Phone Boxes... They're all over... Should we charge the phone company, the telephone company, and the cable company with Terrorism?

Is this a metal box you'd rather see?
