you can have absolutely no experience and look like hammered shit and still get onstage at certain events, Vince Goodrum is living proof of this, he is the perfect example of why you should have to have the ok of a judge before you can do a show, there is no way that any judge would ever let Vince step onstage if that were the case.

I wouldn't consider him a bodybuilder.

that's exactly my point, the thing that's fuccked up is that he can get onstage if he pays the entrance fee, it would be like a weekend warrior football player being able to have a tryout with an NFL team, it's pathetic, no offense to Vince because i'm sure he puts in a little effort but he looks like he's never touched a weight in his life.

Maybe the NPC should start psych analysis before they let them compete. That would wack out (no pun intended) 50% of the entries nationwide.

no, they just need to screen the physiques, IMO a guy can be nutty as a fruitcake but if he's got a good physique let him compete, fat guys, skinny guys, average guys, hairy guys, etc. DO NOT BELONG ON STAGE. PERIOD. maybe this way people would have some respect for the business.

look at it this way, how would you feel if you trained hard for a year, dieted, busted your ass in the gym, juiced, tanned, the whole business and some fat clown who didn't train, didn't shave, didn't tan, etc. got onstage after you, wouldn't you feel insulted?

Haha most geeks "competes" just to say to people they compete and brag about it.
Then the people say they look not so buff anymore, and then they reply, well those days are behind me now, i now go for the health look and do lots of reps for cuts.
haha.

haha.

I have come across people who say the thier friend competes "professionally" and this guys has done a county show. There's a big difference in being professional competitave bodybuilder and the weekend warrior that decides to compete.

This is the very point I've made before.

There should be some sort of standards.

I think you are right.  There should be some sort of pre-pre judging.  This way they can weed out the people who don't belong.  The problem is the promoter needs the entry fee money and the NPC would not turn down anyone who wants to join.  ANyone can hold an NPC card.  You don't even have to compete.

exactly, this would automatically eliminate rif raff like Vince and these other clowns who show up looking like shit, it would be like some clown showing up to throw the shot in the Olympic Games with a top throw of 37 feet when everyone else is throwing 78 feet, it's a joke and an insult to the real competitors.

that would be pretty sweet seeing a 78 throw, most guys at the olympics these days throw about 70 feet to get a medal.  There are guys at meets that show up all the time who can't throw worth shit, but they are low ranking meets with no standards.  Does this guy actually compete at a high level looking like that?  I would assume he has to qualify or something like we do in track, no?

you know what i mean, i'm not an expert on track and field i was just using that as an example, the crazy thing is that EVEN AT LOCAL SHOWS Vince is that outclassed, the man literally looks like he's never touched a weight, BTW wasn't Brian Oldfield throwing the shot 75 feet in the 70's?

yep he was the first man to throw the shot 75 feet, then randy barnes threw the current world record 75'10(soon after recieveing a life time ban for drugs).  Brian oldfield also used steroids.  But these days steroids aren't used as much due to testing so breaking 70 feet is quite a feat.  I would love to throw 60 before I am finished university.

He should be allowed to compete at a low level, but at a higher level it is good that there are standards and qualificaitons to make before competeing.

Yes and it hasn't gone up much.  In fact in 2000 I think the WR was still at 75'.  That is one reason why I gave it up. 75' was just to much for me.  But I was pretty sure I could have broke the Discus WR that year.

he still to this day was the greatest olympian who ever lived.  Did you hear about the time he had a neck injury at the olympics and still won?

yeah that was either Mexico City in '68 or Munich in '72, i think he won his first gold in Melbourne in '56, he said that he walked out into the stadium in Mexico City and that hearing the 80,000 people chearing made him forget about his injury and got the adrenaline flowing.
