Why do guys who DONT compete take AAS?

I could see if someone really enjoyed BBing and liked to compete as a hobby and needed gear to compete on a local stage or if someone had to get in top condition for a paid shoot, but why do local gym idiots with 15%+ Bodyfat and average muscle take AAS? WHat are they trying to acomplish? DO they think they will gain 'Alpha Male " status with an additional 20 lbs of watery muscle? DO they think a 350lb benchpress will have every stripper in town trying to hook up with them? I talked to a guy a few years ago at my gym who was setting up this 15 week cycle with 5 diff compounds in it. I asked him what show he was getting ready for and he said he didnt compete, I then asked him if he must be getting ready for a paid photo shoot .. " No" he replied.

Because it's a free country. The govt has no business telling people if they may or may not use steroids in the first place.

Second, some guys just wanna look good, or wanna feel stronger and enhance their performance at the gym. Nothing wrong with that. Or maybe the dude has some psychological complex. Or maybe the dude is taking steroids to offset nature's cruelty and prevent some of the downsides of dwindling natural test levels...

My boy is juiced to the gills and has no interest in competing, and has a great physique. I've asked him the same question, why juice and not compete? His reply, "I like the way I feel, I like being strong". Good enough for me.
